2 bass drums too much?
I’m in a small/local band (just starting out) and my kit has 2 bass drums. I’ve played many shows in another band (as a guitarist), so I have experience seeing what other bands do. But my question is this - is having 2 bass drums too much for smaller venues? Has anyone else in here done it? All of the rock/metal bands I’ve played with on the same billing used single kick with a double kick pedal, but surely other people have used 2 bass drum setups in smaller venues? Is it a matter of logistics/saving stage space mostly?
In need of new throne. Any suggestions that won’t break the bank
I have a really terrible throne that came with my kit, and I just had my first lesson and my teacher told me I should really think about getting a new throne to prevent long term injuries. As I am still in school, I do not have a whole lot of disposable income. Are there any quality thrones that aren’t 150$+?

Can it splash?
Can i really turn this fucked up zildjian zbt 16 china into a good or at least decent splash?
It's already following the path of a lath line in the inside of the cymbal so i wonder if I can keep hiting the fuck out of it to continue breaking it so it gets a cleanr cut and then I could use sandpaper or something. 🤔
Filling in for PeelingFlesh for a couple tours while Joe awaits the arrival of his first child. Catch me on this current US tour and in Australia/New Zealand with them. Here's FFWAS live in Houston last night
What do y’all think of my baby? (suggestions are welcome)
Your go to pattern for heel-toe double bass?
I just started to teach myself heel-toe for fast double pedal use (ideally for extreme metal)
And I found I could approach it in two ways:
- R-Heel R-Toe L-Heel L-Toe
- R-Heel L-Heel R-Toe L-Toe
I am not which is ideal.
I plan to use it on an Iron Cobra 900 (which hasn't arrived yet)

Tired of Kick Triggers
I'm not talking about the same old trope that "triggers are cheating" or anything. They're not. I'm just looking for a more natural sound and triggers aren't doing it for me anymore.
Who here has stopped using, or doesn't use kick triggers and can still pull off speeds 200+ bpm?
I've been messing around with a fully acoustic kick and I think I can do it reasonably well up to about 225. I don't play extreme metal, but my band does have some fast parts up to about that speed. There is one part where I did short bursts of 240 but that won't work without a trigger so I'll have to do something else there instead. That's not necessarily a bad thing either because it forces me to be more creative. What are people's thoughts about ditching triggers to have a more natural sound?
What can i do to stop being poser?
I am currently in a deathcore project with songs of Chelsie grin, suicide silence, bring me the horizon, etc. And we where discussing pther songs to put on the setlist and I didn't participate at all because I know I'm a poser and the only close thing to deathcore I know might be Dawn of Demise. But i say I'm a poser because I don't know any more bands, i just keep with megadeth, slipknot, some kinda under like soilwork amd Dawn of Demise, and I stick to those because that's what I know and what I enjoy but I do wanna explore more artists/bands and genres but I don't know how because i don't know playlists or names of other bands and that stuff.

What do you guys do about kick triggers?
I’ve never used a kick trigger live before, but do most people actually use them on stage?
If you’re doing fast heel-toe techniques, I feel like you need really precise settings. But at live houses, especially in Japan, changeover time is super short, so there’s barely any time to dial things in.
Maybe this is kind of a Japan-specific issue, but there’s also not enough time to bring in your own full setup. And if you start changing the bass drum tuning, other drummers might not like it.
How do you all handle this situation?
Other than needing another audio interface and more mics, tell me why I should not go through the hassle of a second bass drum.
