Excited to run a Lenovo after using a gigantic HP for like four years
I’m gonna be commuting to school with an ebike. I already got it registered, put the sticker on it, and got my U-lock. However, I also have a regular BMX bike that, for whatever reason, I may want or need to take to school sometimes. Do I need to also get my BMX bike registered with the school?
Most normal voters are not as politically literate or informed as the average leftist, and will not ever be
The Overton Window is a legitimate political concept and revolutionary/radical ideas and actions will not be seen as reasonable by most people unless they are literally on the brink of being unable to survive
Lofty ideals don’t win politics, tangible action and good governance do
The DSA’s ”abolish the senate” demand is just fucking ludicrous and it is going to hurt them. Obviously it makes sense from the standpoint of trying to create a good, representative democracy, but the overwhelming majority of Americans hear this and check out because it just sounds stupid. Plus the Senate‘s existence and structure is basically impossible to change because it would require senators to sign away their entire position and all their power to constitutionally amend Article V, which they would never do.
why do leftist orgs keep shooting themselves in the feet like this
I’ll start: “Please remove the last scanned item from the bagging area. Remember to always scan your items befo-” boodoop
I’ve actually been following the Slate since the concept was first announced a few years ago. Always thought it was an interesting project and now seeing that it’s actually going to become a real product, I’m actually considering putting it on the list of cars I’ll think about getting in a few years.
I’ll say I’m not one of the people who’s such a diehard believer that I’m on the waiting list to get one or placed a reservation already. like any startup, this thing could crash and burn like Fisker, or it could actually become a really useful and successful niche product. If I got one, I’d wait for a few years to see what issues pop up, how people like them, how and what aftermarket parts are available, what the real world experience of owning one is, and how Slate and their dealer and service network expand. Also, it would be nice to see if they end up being able to put any more range into a newer model a few years down the line.
I do recognize that there are some problems, I think the price is a little too high (but certainly still a great deal for the right target market given the prices of vehicles and gas now) and it may be too niche a product to take off. But I do think Slate will find success and sales with this as a fleet vehicle, hopefully giving them enough capital to keep producing vehicles and maybe come up with a winner for the mainstream market. Also, if the next administration brings back federal electric vehicle subsidies, and the price of this thing goes under $20,000, I think people are just gonna start buying them left and right because all of a sudden they’ll become one of the most affordable EV’s on the market. Lack of spyware is a huge selling point, too.
All this being said, i’m wondering if anybody else is really considering getting one at some point because they like living with a small but capable truck. Especially my fellow hybrid owners who really like paying less for gas.
Before the comments about the Fathom come in: I don’t think there’s much overlap between the target markets for the Fathom and the Slate. The Fathom is a much more conventional vehicle that’s also going to end up costing way more than the slate once the dealers have their way with the price, and right now, the Fathom is only a concept while the Slate is going into production soon.
i’m not very familiar with Toyota‘s new electric vehicle platform. Beyond what Toyota has put out already, does anybody know anything more or have any expectations regarding the new electric Highlander?
In South Jordan rn and it smells like absolute ass outside everywhere near the District, Daybreak, etc. It reminds me of how it smells in Farmington North Salt Lake near the oil refineries. Anybody know what this is? Anybody in a different area smelling this too? It’s horrible
edit: this is not normal. also i tried to post this in r/SaltLakeCity but i think the sub is locked rn or something
I moved here from Texas several years ago. This is the only place in the country I’ve been to where gigantic and/or lifted pickups seem to make up as much or more of the amount of cars on the roads as Texas.
I drove up 15 from Lindon back to Daybreak yesterday and the entire time I was surrounded by, in the vicinity of, or passing at least four other behemoth pickups. All told on 15 and Bangerter I saw probably 50 of these trucks, all lifted Silverados, F250s and 350s, Sierras, Tundras, and Titans. As expected, almost none of these trucks looked like they were or are ever used for heavy-duty truck capabilities.
The kicker was that, of course, the majority of these guys got pissed to all hell when I passed them in my little Ford Maverick. I drive a little fast on the freeway and as I’d pass these guys half of em would start speeding up to try and pass me. The ego on these people is freaking ridiculous.
Why do people buy these stupid cars? Especially when gas is this expensive? How do you convince someone who never tows, maybe uses the bed once a year, and basically just needs a car to get groceries and take the kids to school? People running the risk of running over their own kid in the driveway cause they can’t see them, killing somebody else in an accident. Then they get on the highway and get 5 miles a gallon going 100 everywhere. Makes zero sense as vehicles for the vast majority of people. Be careful on the roads out here
Just after the scene where he escapes Still Life. I assume it’s bacteria growing under the floorboard? But I was never really sure, especially because the whole bacteria concept isn’t really the focus of FF3. Anybody got speculations as to what this is?
Just had some idiot try to return cold medicine he bought at Target. He had a Target receipt and everything. He was dumbfounded that he can’t return it here because “there’s a CVS in Target.” Uh yeah, just cause there’s a McDonalds in a Walmart doesn’t mean I can ask Walmart for buffalo sauce. smh
So here’s the skinny. I’m 18, about to be a freshman at the U. Will be commuting from SoJo to campus for school. Currently have a job at CVS, but I’m gonna be cutting hours to like a shift or two per month while I acclimate to school. It’s highly likely I’ll just keep them low during the school year.
However, I’d prefer my income not drop to near-zero during school, since I’d like to not eat into my savings and preferably even keep saving a little money (school is covered by scholarship; living at home; don‘t own a car so no payment). But I can’t work a job with a fixed schedule set by someone other than me during the school year, I need to be able to pick my own hours flexibly so I can manage stress better.
I have a couple options, each with accompanying questions:
Any answers appreciated
Super low mileage 2025 kia K4 that would cost about $16,300 after all fees. Salvage title though with unspecified damage. I have enough to buy it outright so it wouldn’t need financing. I love the look and drive feel of the K4. Is this a good or bad idea
Saw somebody else in this sub made a bingo board for their store and I stole their idea. Hope my manager doesn’t have an issue with this lol
My store gets a ton of customers who only speak Spanish, especially delivery app drivers. For the first few months I worked here, I would always have to awkwardly pull out the translate app and it was clunky and made everything take forever.
Eventually, I realized it would be helpful to just learn a couple Spanish phrases that I commonly use to help these interactions go smoother and help facilitate faster order fulfillment times for the delivery drivers.
My tactic was just to use Claude or ChatGPT and have it give me the most situationally-appropriate and commonly-spoken way to deliver my chosen phrase. Imo using an LLM for this works better than a translator app because those apps are very literal and don’t always give you the correct phrase, or the phrase in a context that‘s not necessarily appropriate for a retail setting. Once I’d get the phrase, I’d practice it to myself while working until I got it down.
Some really helpful phrases:
”¿necesitas ayuda encontrar algo?” - Need help finding anything?
“Te muestro donde está.” - I’ll show you where that is.
”¿Tienes código de barras?” - Do you have a barcode?
”Están pasillo [#].” - This is on aisle [#].
“¿Quieres este/esto en una bolsa?” - Do you want these/this in a bag?
”¿Quieres recibo?” - Do you want the receipt?
”No tenemos mas en existencia, lo siento.” - We don’t have anymore in stock, sorry.
Hope these are helpful for anybody!
Located in Downtown Daybreak area on Lake Avenue just off Mountain View hwy outside the fire/police station, facing eastbound to pick up rear license plates and faces of anybody walking riding along the center-median shared path (a path that, in my opinion, makes Lake Avenue the single-best street in the entire Valley). It’s Motorola branded. Already marked on Deflock, just wanted to confirm it. Thanks to u/PeakTwinPeaks9 for your weekly post about new cameras, it brought this one to my attention.
Remember that Flock isn’t the only one making these cameras! Motorola (Vigilant) and Axon are putting them up too.
Started pouring buckets like 40 minutes ago out of nowhere here in South Jordan! So much rain is coming down so fast the drains aren’t able to handle it, minor flooding on the roads already! Be careful driving!
Sorry if the title was unclear. Maybe this makes more sense in the context of American politics, but for example, take my father. as a younger man, he was somewhat conservative. as he got older, and the Republican Party drifted further and further away from what he stood for at the time, his values realigned much more squarely with libertarians (I use this lightly, this was before the libertarians just basically became fascists with very self-contradictory beliefs) and soon after that, the left.
He now supports things like universal healthcare, workers rights and labor unions, believes in the principle of equality for all people, etc. He doesn’t think billionaires should exist and he thinks it makes more senes to tax the wealthy at a higher rate than the working class. He‘s a smart guy who worked as an accountant for the federal government for 20 years, and he understands the value of taxation and using taxes to support strong public programs. I’d say principally he aligns with basically a Nordic-model social democrat.
That being said, even though he recognizes the problems with capitalism and is basically a reformist in principle, I think because he’s a Gen Xer who grew up in America in the 1980s, he doesn’t really believe in the abolition of capitalism. Not because of a moral stance, I just don’t think his brain is wired to believe that it could be possible.
I would say he also has a little bit too much confidence in the integrity of American electoral politics, and he doesn’t really see most of the issues with the current Democratic Party besides a lot of big-money influence and their poor electability record. He’s obviously extremely anti-Trump (has been since 2015) and believes that the Republican Party has brought the country into authoritarianism and that people need to be put behind bars for the actions of this administration.
You see what I mean? By most accounts, he’s basically a leftist. There’s just a couple things that really would make him line up on paper more with a liberal, but I think it’s more to do with a lack of understanding rather than ideological opposition.
There are a lot of liberals like this in the country, but us on the left often lump them in with fascists or at least fascist-enabling liberals who believe in shit like “finding common ground“ with Nazis, even though these liberals are more on our side than the fascists’. How should we differentiate these people?
TL;DR— how do we separate “unintentional liberals” from “intentional liberals” in discourse and how can we get the unintentionals to join the left?
