Thoughts on the St. John’s sign being placed on Signal Hill?

The city is St. John’s made a post asking where the sign should go, and I was surprised by the amount of comments saying Signal Hill. Many suggesting it should be placed facing the city or ocean.

Am I the only one who thinks the sign would completely ruin the historic atmosphere and the views?

Slowly becoming vegetarian and judgment from my vegetarian friend

I’ve decided I want to eventually go vegetarian. For me, the best way is to do it slowly.

Currently I’ve cut out red meat. I’m still eating poultry and tuna, but I’m incorporating more vegetarian meals throughout the week. my favourites are Dal, Mexican rice and beans, and chickpea salad :)

I was feeling really proud of myself because it’s been two months since I’ve eaten red meat. However when I expressed my pride to my vegetarian friend, i was returned with shame and judgement. She expressed I wasn’t allowed to be proud until I’m fully vegetarian.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel fantastic when eating poultry, but if I give up everything all at once I will most likely fail. I’m also on a strict weight loss diet and need to eat very high protein.

Anyways I think I just needed to vent.

Is it open today?

Genuinely what is so difficult to understand about ONLY St. John’s being closed today? I’ve seen about 20 “is this open today?” On Facebook.

If it’s not in St. John’s 99% chance it is open regular hours.

Tent camping

What is the best campground or place for tents in NL, preferably on the Avalon?

I went to butterpot and the sound of generators and light setups was a bit intense. Felt like an RV campground.

Lamanche was pretty good, most generators and large lights were shut off at 11. Just looking to try something else!

Idaho Murder Documentary

Does anyone know if the new Idaho murder documentary it’s fully for-profit? Did they make any donations to families, foundations etc.?

I always debate watching tru crime documentaries because sometimes they aren’t ethical and take advantage of what the victims went through.

Dressers

Anyone know where in town I can get a dresser for a decent price? Doesn’t have to be an overly fancy one.

Would rather not spend over $100 for a dinged up and very used one from marketplace.

Forgetting birthday

Is being on vacation and being a forgetful person good enough excuses for my best friend to forget to wish me happy birthday?

AITAH for not wanting to trip sit

I planned a staycation with one of my friends (let’s call her Sarah) and we decided to invite a few of our mutuals! The trip was happening whether or not those mutuals could come, as it was already planned with the two of us.

One of the mutual friends suggested that we do a drug and the three other mutuals agreed. Sarah and I don’t do drugs, but we’re not against people doing them— we don’t really care.

However, neither Sarah or I want to trip sit. We’re not in the mood to deal with a potential bad trip and have to spend our relaxing weekend making sure someone is okay.

Are we the asshole for saying they can’t do drugs, and if they do we won’t be babysitting them? They’re paying for their portion of the trip so they can do what they want but at the same time we planned and they were invited.

Slap in the face

My girlfriend and I are barely getting by. Were living pay cheque to pay cheque, surviving on the bare minimum. The GST/grocery rebate helped us tremendously with financial stress, and on those Fridays we were able to treat ourselves to something small like a fancy cheese (crazy, I know).

However this year we followed the law and filed our taxes as common law, because as of Dec. 2025 we had been living together for 1 year. To our mistake, we didn't know he had to update our CRA accounts immediately when that mark hit.

Now we each owe over $1000 to the CRA because they want us to pay everything we got since December back. What difference does it make that we we are a couple? We are still the same amount of people, making the same amount of money. Why were we eligible individually but not together? It makes no sense.

Now we're on the brink of homelessness.

Edit to add: I understand WHY couples may not be eligible. I don't understand why the income threshold of only a 4k difference for individuals and couples
