Surplus VSAT equipment (Newtec, Hughes, 1m/1.2m Dishes) – Is there still a market or value for parts?

Hi everyone,

We have accumulated a batch of legacy satellite internet hardware from past projects that is no longer in service. I’m trying to figure out if there’s still any resale market for these, or if anyone knows specific groups/forums where people buy them for spare parts or repurposed projects.

Here is the hardware list we have:

Modems:

- Newtec MDM2210

- Newtec MDM2510

- Hughes HN9800

Transceivers / LNBs / BUCs:

- ILB 2220

- ILB 2141

- TRX0121/R 3W

- Hughes HA210-L

Antenna Reflectors:

- ANT2025 (1.0m)

- ANT2035 (1.2m)

- IEC Telecom (0.98m)

My questions:

Is there any active secondhand market for these specific Newtec / Hughes units (maybe for WISP spares, lab testing, or Ham radio repurposing)?

What would be the best platforms or communities to list them for interested buyers?

Are the 1.0m / 1.2m dishes generally worth repurposing for point-to-point wireless links, or is it better to sell them as raw gear?

Any advice or leads on potential buyers/communities would be greatly appreciated!

Hikvision DS-7616NXI Boot Loop / Pulsing White LED issue after power outage — Board power reset workaround?

Hi everyone,

I have a new Hikvision NVR model DS-7616NXI-12/16P/S with 5 IP cameras connected to it. It was working fine for a couple of days, but after recent electrical maintenance work at the site (which caused multiple sudden power flickers and outages), the NVR stopped booting up.

Symptom:

Upon powering on, the power button's circular white LED just continuously pulses/flashes, and the system fails to POST/boot.

Temporary Workaround:

If I open the chassis and disconnect the main power/data ribbon cables on the motherboard (specifically the HDD power harness, front panel connector, and the blue internal PoE board bridge connectors — see attached picture), then reconnect them, the NVR boots up fine!

However, after 1–2 days of normal operation, the issue returns and the NVR gets stuck in the pulsing white light loop again until I repeat the cable disconnect/reconnect process.

What I'm trying to figure out:

Is this behavior caused by a latching power protection mode on the mainboard due to bad caps / voltage drop from the internal PSU after the outage?

Could a damaged WD Purple 8TB HDD or SATA power rail be triggering a protection shutdown during initial POST?

Has anyone experienced this exact symptom on the AcuSense NXI series, and is it a hardware failure on the PSU/motherboard or just a corrupt bootloader/firmware state?

Has anyone encountered this exact issue before and identified the root cause or a permanent fix? Any insights, diagnostic steps, or repair experiences would be greatly appreciated!

IsItBullshit: A 13-year-old girl getting bitten by snakes 7 times in different locations within weeks because they are "targeting" her?

Hi everyone,

A story is going viral on local social media about a 13-year-old girl who was reportedly bitten by snakes 7 times in a very short period.

According to her family, the bites happened across different locations, starting in her rural village, and continuing even after they moved her to the city. They claim the snakes are somehow "tracking" or "targeting" her specifically. Each time, she is rushed to a local clinic and given antivenom.

This sounds medically and biologically impossible to me, but I wanted to get expert opinions:

Biological aspect: Is there ANY mechanism by which snakes could track, target, or hold a "grudge" against a specific human across different environments?

Scent/Venom theory: Is it biologically possible that remaining venom (or a specific body odor left after a bite) could attract other snakes to the same person later on?

Medical aspect: Wouldn't receiving antivenom 7 times in a few weeks cause severe immunological reactions (like Serum Sickness or anaphylaxis)?

Alternative explanations: Is it more likely to be a psychological issue (such as Factitious Disorder / self-harm), misdiagnosed insect/spider bites, or just an exaggerated viral story?

Looking forward to hearing thoughts from herpetologists, medical professionals, or anyone with relevant expertise.

Thanks!

"Couldn't send an SMS to your number" error on WhatsApp Business (Dual VoLTE SIMs, S23 Ultra) - Stuck for 4 DAYS

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a frustrating issue while trying to activate WhatsApp Business on my second SIM card, and I've been completely stuck for over 4 days now.

My Setup:

Device: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (Dual SIM).

Carrier: Yemen Mobile.

Network Mode: Both SIMs are running on VoLTE active.

Status: SIM 1 (Personal WhatsApp) works perfectly. SIM 2 is active for regular calls and peer-to-peer SMS, but completely blocked for automated short-code registration.

The Problem:

Whenever I try to register SIM 2 on WhatsApp Business, I immediately get the popup error: "Couldn't send an SMS to your number. Please check your number. If it's correct, you can try again in 1 hour, or try to verify another way."

What I've tried so far:

1- Waited for long cooldown periods (including a full 48-hour break) over the last 4 days without making any attempts, but the exact same error appears on the very first try.

2- Verified the SMS Center (SMSC) number for the second SIM, and it's correct.

3- Contacted WhatsApp Support, but they only responded with a useless automated email template and closed the ticket.

4- Attempted "Call me" and "Missed call" options, but they trigger the same error or are grayed out.

Since both SIMs are running on VoLTE, I highly suspect there is an IMS routing conflict or a device fingerprint restriction on WhatsApp's server-side when handling dual-VoLTE requests from the same carrier.

Has anyone encountered this specific "Couldn't send an SMS" loop on a dual-VoLTE device?

Is there any known server-side workaround, or a way to force WhatsApp to reset my registration status?

Any help from fellow Redditors or technical experts would be highly appreciated!

First time working with Nice RUN – What is the best way to open a sliding gate from a smartphone?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post in this community, and also my first time working with a Nice RUN sliding gate motor, so I would appreciate your advice.

Current setup:

- Nice RUN sliding gate motor (already installed and working normally with remotes)

- Hikvision IP intercom system installed:

- Outdoor Station

- Indoor Station

- Hik-Connect is already configured and working

- Residential project

Customer requirement:

The customer mainly wants to open the sliding gate remotely from a smartphone.

The application itself does not matter:

- Hik-Connect

- Nice app

- Any other reliable solution

I opened the Nice controller and found terminals such as:

- P.P

- OPEN

- CLOSE

- STOP

- BLUEBUS

My initial thought was to use the Hikvision intercom relay (NO/COM dry contact), but before doing that I wanted to ask people with real experience.

So what is considered the most reliable and professional way to control a

Thank you.

EnGenius EWS356-FIT Fast Roaming / Seamless Roaming Setup with Wired Backhaul

Hi everyone,

I have a client who purchased:

- D-Link DIR-X6080Z router

- 8x EnGenius EWS356-FIT access points

All APs are connected to the router/switches using Ethernet cables (wired backhaul).

The client wants:

- One WiFi name (single SSID)

- One password

- Seamless roaming while walking inside the house without the phone disconnecting or noticeably switching between APs.

From my understanding, this should be done using Fast Roaming / Seamless Roaming (802.11r/k/v).

However, when I checked the settings of the EWS356-FIT, I could not clearly find a “Fast Roaming” option.

My questions are:

  1. Does the EnGenius EWS356-FIT actually support Fast Roaming (802.11r/k/v)?

  2. If yes, where is it configured?

  3. If not, what is the best way to achieve seamless roaming with the current hardware available?

Also, should I disable the WiFi on the DIR-X6080Z router and let only the EnGenius APs handle the wireless network?

Any recommendations for optimal roaming settings (TX power, channels, RSSI, etc.) would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

High Mileage Hyundai Theta II: Oil Consumption Without Blue Smoke

I have a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4L (Theta II engine) with around 330,000 km on it.

Recently I noticed the engine oil level dropped by about 1/3 to 1/2 liter after approximately 1,500 km since the last oil change. I currently use Liqui Moly Molygen 5W-40.

Some additional details about the car:

- No blue smoke from the exhaust.

- No black smoke either.

- Engine still runs relatively smooth.

- Slight decrease in power during uphill driving compared to before.

- Some carbon deposits were found on the spark plugs.

- Intake ports also have noticeable carbon buildup.

- History of catalytic converter clogging/failure multiple times in the past.

- Fuel quality in my country is not very good.

I’m trying to understand whether this oil consumption is considered normal for a high-mileage Theta II engine, or if it points more toward:

- worn piston rings.

- valve stem seals.

- PCV valve issue.

- or something else.

Questions:

Is this amount of oil consumption acceptable at this mileage?

Would replacing the PCV valve likely help?

Should I stay with 5W-40 or move to a thicker oil?

Any recommended checks before considering major engine work?

Thanks in advance.
