I’ve been considering adding this one to the collection for quite some time, but I just never got around to picking one up. It kinda felt like a bit of an oddball reference, and judging from pics I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. When Casio discontinued the model I kinda gave up on it since I knew it would go up in price.

I happened upon this nearly new example on local Marketplace and managed to obtain it for $25. As soon as I got it in my hand I could tell I was going to enjoy it more than I thought. It’s bigger than I expected. The display is ultra legible. The band is super soft. And the pushers are delightfully tactile.

It has the features of my AE1200 Royale while being easier to read and adjust; the wrist presence of my WS1700 Moon Phase with a much more comfortable strap; and the water resistance, mineral glass, and rugged feel of my G-Shocks.

I didn’t intend on writing a review of this watch, but it’s just surprisingly good. If you can find this one under $40 I highly recommend.

Hello fellow enthusiasts of G. I just saw this horrible fake Casioak for sale on FB Marketplace, and since I own this model I thought it would be a good opportunity to make an educational post showing some of the side-by-side differences between the real deal and a knockoff.

For me the biggest dead giveaway is the space around “G-SHOCK CASIO” and the poor positioning in relation to the day wheel. Also the brick pattern of the fake is too large and just generally looks shitty compared to the OG.

I wish the seller (scammer) had also posted a pic of the caseback because I’m sure it sucks too. Anyway comment if you found this post helpful. Have an indestructible weekend.

My late uncle purchased this watch 45 years ago - about a month before I was born. He ran it into the ground by the time he died in the mid 90s. My grandmother then put a comically short leather strap on it and wore it as non-functional jewelry to honor her son until she, herself, passed away 2 years ago this month at the age of 99. I always admired the watch, and I was very close to my grandmother. When it came into my possession I managed to find a similar running model donor watch missing a bezel on eBay for around $20. I swapped the movements and put the watch head on this aftermarket mesh bracelet, and it once again tells time on a living wrist.

It’s not my nicest watch by a long shot, but it’s one of my favorites. Ref. 7123-8059 Happy Friday!

I slapped this bad boy together just in time for Game 1. You’re looking at a negative-to-positive LCD polarizer mod (since this case colorway only comes in negative), double bright white LED background mod, and obviously a background mod of the iconic Spurs logo. I was originally going to go with the fiesta colors, but they didn’t read well from behind the LCD, so I went with the logo instead. What do you think? GSG!

I found this cool little bullseye dial hand wound watch at a San Antonio thrift store. I couldn’t pass on it at this price. It is running, but not particularly well, as you can see from the timegrapher.

Research turned up nothing conclusive about it. I think it may have been an inexpensive jeweler’s house brand watch from the late 50s or early 60s.

I popped it out of the case to find it is a front-load configuration and that the indices are inlayed into a “sub crystal” that seems to be separate from the main crystal, which is cracked. I haven’t yet taken the hands off and removed the dial to reveal the movement.

Before I start taking it apart I thought I might ask you guys if anyone knows anything about it as I am just a hobbyist with limited expertise. I think it’s a cool piece that I would like to get running well again. Thanks. Go Spurs!

Just swapped out the CNS Seamaster NATO for the Long Island Watch 5-link bracelet, and I absolutely love it. Really great bracelet for the money. Which fit do you prefer?
