Are syllaba and reading lists available as a non-enrolled?

Hello! I know that the Buffalo Communication major is one of the best and I would like to see the reading lists because I am studying persuasion on my own. Of course it's not the same thing than attending but I think the syllaba could point me to useful resources.

Can I see the reading lists and syllaba as an extern?

Thanks!

Please recommend textbooks about how persuasion works!

I want to get better at figuring people out, read the room and change minds and attitudes. However I am in law school and I can't take a second major in psychology because my university has some dumb policies going on.

I am not interested in negotiation techniques or persuasion tricks right now. I pursue a working knowledge of the science and the mental mechanisms behind the techniques. How people protect their sense of self, how cognitive processes are scaffolded, what triggers emotions.

Right now, Cialdini's Influence and Young's Persuasive Communication are very useful. Vliet's Psychology of Influence too. But I can't find other books, especially regarding emotional influences on persuasion.

Please, help me find books or textbooks that explain what I need to know to figure out people and change their minds when possible.

Does linguistics and pragmatics study persuasion?

I just finished reading three books: "Crisis talk" by Elizabeth Stokoe and "Gift of the Gab" by David Crystal. Both are linguists and both study the linguistics of persuasion. Basically how words and language change people's minds.

I know persuasion usually falls under rhetoric and psychology, but I want to understand it through linguistics, mainly pragmatics and sociolinguistics, I guess.

Does linguistics cover persuasion? Can you recommend me similar books that a layman can approach?

24M. I am physically attracted to women: shapes, curves, movements.

However women do not attract me mentally. I can't see that many differences with men, psychologically speaking, and when I spot those differences, I find those annoying me because it makes communicating and relating harder.

I am curious about what makes people tick, including women, but it's a general kind of fascination with no sexual or romantic element.

I like the female body, but I am quite indifferent to women's minds, which fascinates me the same way men's minds do.

Anyone feels the same? Anyone feels different?

Hello! I have been trying meditation and usually it's very frustrating, but I had some good experiences out of the blue. Those experiences are different according on how i

Sometimes I close my eyes and I focus on the pitch black in my vision. My mind gets blank, like nothing happens, a void in my head. Very hard to keep this state.

Other times, when I watch the stars or trees or other people, it feels like we are all just existing around a web of beliefs that are totally made up and arbitrary. I find myself wondering: why do we eat around a table instead of sitting on the ground, why would this situation makes me feel emotional at all when it's all in the past or in the future, and so on. In this state existing is separated from believing. Hard to keep this state but less hard than the previous one.

Which feeling should I focus on when doing mindfulness?
