A warning to everyone who is squeamish...

One of the girls in this is going to get prostituted and put into debt bondage by another. To put it simply, the villainess of this is School Days levels of heinous.

I figured I should say this, as it is rather gut wrenching watching that plot play out.

Does leaving the W.A. repeal the resolutions you adopted?

I am trying to find a way to get rid of the resolutions and this seems the only option left. Unless I have missed a button to undo the ratification process.

[TOMT][2020s] Mecha Animation from Twitter involving Peter Pan hat

It was something I saw both on YouTube and Twitter.

A girl is trying to design a mech's head and has no ideas, some coworkers and a robot show up and they see a picture of her as a child, get into an argument with her over whether she is cute, and then while she is giving a beat down they realise a Peter Pan hat would make a good head for the giant robot.

Seed Thread — 0.98a

Try this seed, it is the best I have found. Macultus has three habitable planets (two deserts, one Terran) with ores, rare ores, organics, and farmland and within range of both a hypershunt and a colonyship. You can find a gas giant with volatiles and an atmosphereless planet in a neighbouring solar system.

One of these days I am hoping to get my ideal system. Three habitable planets with some farmland, one extremely hot planet for my military H.Q., a gas giant for fuel, and a planet without an atmosphere... Oh, and one planet with organics, rare metals, and normal metals for a bore. The cryo-ship and shunt too.

Yeah, this is going to take ages to find.

Elite (1984) Translation

https://preview.redd.it/u539lpqe5edh1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=d063e77d98b8229faab18276b0c233e4dd968ba7

Following on from my previous post, which was reviewed and approved by the moderation staff.

So, the translation work is mostly done. The biggest issue we have right now is that text overlaps in several cases due to positions being hard-coded and also the descriptions...

Frankly put, the way the game generates descriptions is more or less impossible to make work with any inflected languages. It will read as rather scuffed due to adjectives having the wrong endings, but short of rewriting the way the descriptions are generated (which I can not do at my current level of coding knowledge, at least not any time soon) it will either need to be left untranslated or scuffed. For now, I am choosing to translate it and make it scuffed.

Another issue I am not sure how to address is that the version I am compiling does not allow for fullscreen and the window does not resize. I have some ideas as to what might be causing that, but I am putting that on the back-burner as a secondary issue.

I am working on a separate version which does not rely on hardbaked text, but it is currently an uphill battle. As one of my friends so aptly put it 'Anything this complex would be done in C++ these days'.

If anyone wants the files to try out the game, message me directly or add me on Discord (h.fleischmann). I do not have a distribution method down yet, but I will figure that out once all the issues are ironed out.

The code does not like being composed on a Windows machine, you need to use Linux or something that emulates a Linux environment and this creates issues. If anyone wants to know the process I used, I will include a list of steps in a comment beneath here. I might have forgotten something I did in my debugging, but it should help you along.

Elite (1984) Translation Work

Right now, I am currently working on three translations of the game:

  1. German
  2. Afrikaans
  3. Russian

If I can get these three done, I will move onto trying to do Japanese for my wife and French.

Anyway, other than announcing that I am doing this and showing that there is progress, I am currently thinking about how to make this process better. As of writing, all translations need to be hardbaked into the source code itself, making the process somewhat painful.

I am thinking, what if we instead set it up so that the game files refer to a text document called 'localisation' and we put all the nomenclature and such in there instead?

Oh, also, if there are any bugs that you know about, please let me know. I am also trying to improve the game's experience and such too.

P.S.

Another reason for having a localisation file is that it would make it easier to add in the option to switch between languages in game rather than having it only available in one language.

CheatEngine — Can this be used to progress a bugged mission?

I recently discovered a save-game world before starting a save, edited it and terraformed the system, and only when I got to the space stage and all was too late did I find out that the crashed ship mission seems to go to the nearest semi-habitable body in your solar system, rather than being set to the ship site itself.

As a result, it is impossible to leave the solar system as this species as the scan site is on the wrong planet and the site does not have the flag to allow me to scan it.

What happens if I colonise a homeworld candidate?

As the title says, I managed to find a planet which I can start a save on.

I started terraforming it a bit to make the world easier to play on, since this is really a first for me... But what would happen if I colonised it? Would I still be able to start a new game here?

[TOMT][Paperback][1920s] A children's adventure book set in India where a girl throws a fit over salams

I used to read a lot of old paperbacks when I was in school in the 2000s. Several of them were old British adventures books set in colonial settings and such and one in particular had a scene in which... I can not recall what the plot was, but I think the book was from the Twenties and there was this one girl who effectively went on a tirade saying 'You are the servant, I am the master! You give me salams, not the other way around.' or something to that effect.

You would be surprised how difficult it is to search for old colonial and imperial fiction, as it is not really a genre and more a description of the attitudes that were prevalent when things were being written.

For quite some time now I have been finding myself coming here for comfort. I generally have found this community to be one of the more calm ones I am a member of, even if I do not post anywhere near as often as I should. I do not know why exactly, but to-day while I was scrolling through some of the posts I felt I should introduce myself and explain who and what I am, as it feels a bit like I have been hiding in the crowd.

My family is Buddhist, the country I was born in is Buddhist, and I was raised a Buddhist. I still think that the teachings I learnt are true or at least that the Buddha's teachings are good, but I felt they were not for me and so I devoted myself more to the worship of the gods and I found happiness in this.

As a result of this I realise I am rather heterodox... I am agnostic on the matter of atman and anatta. I can not say if one is true or not. I think varna is real and important, but I also think that it is something that can be changed in a person's life. I believe both in dharma and also the Tao, as... I found that as I investigated other ways of thinking that they shared ultimately the same truth. Dharma leads us to Brahman, the Tao leads to the Universal Tao. There is no true difference between the Universal Tao and Brahman, so I came to understand that these were different paths to the same truth. Likewise have I read Sufi teachings and been impressed with their insistence that nothing is real, only God.

As a result of this, I hold the position that God—Brahman—has a thousand faces and each face a thousand aspects. All of them are true to him in some way, thus there are many paths that lead back to him.

I was doing a test game with a couple of people for a space-based R.P.G. and during it the players wanted to find out what a civil war was like on a planet. I gave a description of it, giant mechs and nuclear bombs going off, and the response I got was excitement and questions about whether they could get one of those too.

I get where they are coming from, but besides being a lot of work, it would also be a major shift in focus. I am rather hesitant to try making up rules for ground vehicle combat.

The text description I gave at the time to explain why I think this might be a bit beyond me:

>As your ship enters atmosphere you are immediately hit with a wave of ionising radiation and a series of sensor locks are established and broken in a matter of seconds. The clouds below you are analysed by the ship's sensors and contain unusually high concentrations of heavy metals and other particulates.

>Further down, your systems pick up a series of high energy bursts and nuclear detonations. Well within the norms of space, your ship is not at all at risk though you note that exiting the vessel would probably be best done in a hardened encounter suit. Switching from radiological scans to cameras a vision of a ruined city comes to you. Amongst its ruins are thousands of little ants—most likely soldiers in black carapace armour—and long lines and parks of artillery hurling shells over the horizon at targets out of sight. Striding between the ruined cities however are truly monstrous things.

>Some are shaped like locusts, others similar to armoured knights, and others still like crabs. Ship-grade armour clad and all with reaction cores that should not arguably be used in atmosphere. The mechanical-walkers seem to be the source of the spikes in radiation as the camera periodically blurs in tempo with the spikes whenever one of the larger ones fires its energy weapon.

>The battle appears to be reaching its crescendo as the line of invading walkers can be seen running across the open fields and burnt out suburbs of the city and into the outer-districts proper. A brutal melee begins between the lines and only now do the tanks and other armoured vehicles make themselves known, shooting from prepared positions and scurrying out of hiding to flank the attackers. It is however no use until a wave of smaller cylinder shaped ones is seen, rushing between the legs of the oncoming giants and then suddenly detonating.
—
I am going to remind you now that your ship is actively being targeted by both sides and that you do not have a means of defending yourselves in atmosphere. Your ship's energy weapons only work in vacuum.

I also used an image from BattleTech to get the idea across.
