Going by just the brand in hard drives is one of or THE most easiest way to get screwed over in my opinion. Yes, buying from a reputable brand is easy, but buying and researching a specific model from that brand is the hard part. The best move is this:

Buy from different brands all the time. Want 2 x 8tb HDD's? Buy 2 hdd each from different trusted brands with the same specs. Only buy the same hard drive models if that model is good. I've seen time and time again people's hard drive fail in their nas because they only went with brand, and not model. Please research by model, not just brand.
