Anyone go to see the projection on the castle?

Pretty much the title. I went last night, it was a bit bizarre, well done nonetheless.

In Reference to The last of us Part II (the game) and the Hate it Gets.

MAJOR SPOILDERS FOR PART ONE AND TWO!

It's fair to say that the last of us part two is possibly one of the most controversial games on the market for a multitude of choices, and it gets quite a lot of hate which would consider completely unfair.

The first game was generally received as a masterpiece, few people had issue with it, and when they did it was usually either about performance on the ps3 or just really weird stuff about Ellie I'd rather not get into detail about. Part 2 however was receiving hate before it launched, thanks to data miners leaking parts of the game such as Joel's death, which caused uproar amongst the community which lacked vital context given in the game.

One of the first complaints I tend to see about part two is the fact that Joel was killed off. I understand that people are upset about him dying and I get that it was incredibly gruesomely done, some people would even say it was pointless, as such people were raging and heartbroken by it. Yet I'd like for you to take a moment and think about how his death drives Ellie's half of the story, was it not kind of the whole fucking point that it was heart breaking, that it drove Ellie to the extremes she went to? This character that the player and Ellie have learnt to love has died at the hands of another person, of course that's going to inspire hatred, that was what the writers intended the player to feel at that point, nothing but pure hatred and grief. It was important to align The player's emotions with Ellie's, such that the player can feel and watch Ellie spiral later on on a far deeper level, and to force the player to start to worry for Ellie as the rest of the characters are doing.

Another major complaint about the game I see is people giving out that they had to play as Abby, Joel's killer: once again, that was the whole fucking Idea, the hope was that by making the player love Ellie and hate Abby before switching the perspective making the player love Abby and hate Ellie, we would come to the final act of the game in that emotional turmoil from the first game's ending tenfold. As much as the first game was about love, the second game is about hate. Throughout the first game we come to "sync up" with Joel and grow to love Ellie like a daughter (or sister in some cases). We love these characters deeply and as such we choose to view them as the "good guys" like in most other games and movies etc, but then Joel dooms the world to save Ellie, we know what he did was 50 shades of fucked up, but we try to justify it because "he's Joel, he's just surviving, he's not a bad person" when in fact he is, what he did was objectively wrong. By the time we get to part two we know these characters like family, so when Joel is killed, we feel the same horror that Ellie does, but then when we switch to Abby we "sync up" with her, and all of a sudden our precious Ellie and Joel are monsters. In short the Idea is to leave the player in emotional turmoil knowing that neither character is a "better person" than the other, that they are all morally grey people.

The last major issue I see people complaining about (that I will talk about in length) is the "forced diversity" in the game, from how Ellie is lesbian (we knew this years ago in left behind) to how Lev is trans, some people felt that diversity was being forced into the game. To that I say "cool, good for you, is the performance or story somehow worse for it?" because yeah, I get it, there are a lot of people in the game who aren't straight, there are also a lot of people who aren't straight outside your window, or in your workplace, big fucking deal, It doesn't take away from the story in any aspect.

Finally, just a quick note about the perverts who were disgusted that Ellie wasn't straight, single and shagabble. Or those who were whining about how Abby isn't some dainty damsel in distress because she's a woman. I have nothing to say other than go fuck yourself and go back to talking to your discord kittens or whatever the fuck you do with your miserable life. It is a VIDEO GAME!

(also, there was no need for the death threats being sent to nd, that fucked up)

Part 2 is genuinely disturbing. (And thats not necessarily bad but a break would be nice)

So im currently playing through part 2 (I've had it spoiled for me so feel free to talk about any point in the game) and for the last while (seattle day 3 to now, which for me is the part where you first meet yara and lev) the game has been quite disturbing, and doesn't let up in this. From packs of stalkers for ages to hyper detailed and focused brutality this game has stayed just an inch outside of what I'd consider "comfortable"

Make no mistake, I love the game and I know its meant to do this, that's the idea. But Holy fuck I've never found myself physically recoiling from violence in a game. Many I've played such as mortal kombat have more extreme violence. Yet in part two it feels so indescribably real and grounded (pun intended)

I think this is a testament to just how well made the game is. And to be honest, if all those angry uninformed parents who were petitioning for banning games back in the 80s and 90s saw this game they'd probably keel over and die.

I'm wondering, bar the farm with dina. Does this game ever lighten up from this point, because as well done as it is, it would be great for a break, even if it is something as short as the museum flashback?

edit:

I know part 1 wasn't exactly "child friendly" but the mood was far FAR lighter.

For the last age I have been looking for this clip, but couldn't find it, so i just made my own version. Here it is if anyone wants it. (And just so it shows up in google search results, "Ellie jumps off a dinosaur and fucking dies")

The amount of time it took to find that specific death animation...

I'm looking for a really stupid clip...

So somewhere out there is a clip of ellie jumping off the dino in tlou 2 before it cuts to a death cutscene where ellie hits her head off an underwater rock.

I THINK it was on reddit. if anyone knows what I'm on about please let me know

The museum flashback had me smiling like a child

I was playing through the second game for the first time. I already knew it was coming but even still, the museum had me smiling from ear to ear the whole way through, from every sarcastic quip from Ellie to Joel's sheer confusion at her spouting facts. I loved every moment of it and I almost cried at the shuttle sequence because I knew that as wholesome and light it was, the game was going to cut back to Seattle and Ellie and Dina's turmoil.

while some criticize this scene saying it's "baiting" players or just fishing for nostalgia. I think it's needed. The atmosphere of the game up till that point has been nothing short of suffocating. By letting the player, even for just a moment loose themselves in the feeling that "all is well again, things are as they were and HOLY FUCK THAT'S A MOTHERFUCKING DINOSAUR!" Gives them a very needed and deserved break, while also letting them connect deeper with Ellie if they haven't already.

It's very rare I find myself having the same thoughts and feelings as a character on such a granular level in any piece of media. But somehow, Naughty Dog pulled it off. Where my reactions and thoughts were mirrored by either Joel or Ellie. I don't know how they did it but Hailey and Neil sure as shit did it.

To those of you who hate tlou 2 because of it's sudden shift of perspective, or any other reason related to story I urge you to go back, give it another try and really just let yourself get fully immersed in the world. And when you switch to Abby (or get to that point that you don't like) just. give the game a second. give it time, of course it will take time. give it the time it deserves. let yourself develop your own opinion free of that of others

In part one was (spoiler) a .pdf file

In part 1 was David just cannibal or was he island-worthy? In the game it never explicitly says so but the way he acts with ellie is genuinely just disgusting. Idk about the show as I've never seen it, but at the very least in the context of the game what is he?

After playing the remake, original ellie looks wrong to me...

So my first experience with the series was the ps5 remake, I'm currently playing part 2. When watching stuff online, I noticed the obvious change to Ellie's face. To me, the original face just doesn't look like it matches her voice.

I'm sure its the other way around for people who played the original first but anyway...

How can nd read my mind

I just started tlou 2 (idm spoilers, I had both spoiled for me before I bought them) and while I was getting over the heartbreak of Joel playing a round of wii golf. I jump onto this metal stand thing, which nearly collapses from under me. In true nd fashion ellie barely manages to pull herself up. I found myself thinking "jesus, I nearly died". Immediately after Ellie says "I'M FINE just nearly died...". Then later she reads my mind, again and again.

HOW!?

(Also, how tf does it run on a ps5, much less a ps4)

Its heartbreaking watching Elie become what she did

(No this isn't me hating on the fact she's lesbian)

I played part 1, loved it, was emotionally shattered, gave games a break.

In that break, I thought to myself "how does Ellie that feisty-but-loyal-and-caring teen become what I've seen of her in part 2. While she isn't some innocent cute little damsel in distress in the first game by any stretch of the imagination, she's still a kid, she has fun and can see a good side to her life.

And then you see her in part 2 and you think "oh look, little Ellie is all grown up. I sure hope nothing bad happens to their unbreakable father-daughter bon- oh... dear god, I can't tell if the tears are from the scene or the puking.

WHY NAUGHTY DOG! WHY DO YOU HURT ME SO!

why Is it not possible to port the mobile version of rdr1 to vita?

over the last while I've seen that it's not possible to port more modern mobile games to vita due to a new something that was put in place that the vita doesn't support. what is this and how come it can't be dealt with?

I'm probably going crazy or stating the obvious but...

let me start this by saying that aside from golden abyss I've never played any uncharted games (they're on my list don't worry).

So a good while ago I got my ps5. one of the first games I got was tlou, I loved it and I don't think a game has had as much of an effect on me since. Anyway, recently enough I got myself a ps vita. I had heard that the uncharted series was good and I trusted that any game made by naughty dog would be some way entertaining. So I got a copy of golden abyss. I absolutely loved it. However, while playing it I noticed a few things that seemed veeeeeeeeeery familiar. (once again, i've no clue if this was as much of a thing in previous uncharted games, maybe it's just a hallmark of naughty dog) for example: the "here, I'll give you a boost up there" thing or the characters voicing the thoughts of the player when things get repetitive ("yeah, yeah, and you'll find another way around, I know how this works"). At one point nathan barley manages to grab onto a bridge that broke under him and he asks Marrissa if she's alright, she responds with something like "NO! you scared the shit outta' me!". and at one point they both end up in some very fast rapids to an uncertain destination. Lastly at another point Marissa says something along the lines of "I'm not her you know" which may or may not also be a pivotal line in tlou.

now look, I'm sure this is probably a coincidence, but doesn't that seem quite similar to some of the events and tropes of the last of us. A game which would have been in production at the same time as this one.

To be clear, I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering if i'm completely delusional or not. Were these references, time saves, coincidences?
