Waking Up- Information control

Hi all,

Please note I was never a JW, but I did deconstruct from the alt right pipeline, one thing for me that helped me deconstruct my beliefs was realising If what I believed in was 100% true why was I so scared to look at neutral sources, Was this a common thing amongst you guys too? Having that realisation and then being like if it is the truth I have nothing to lose by looking at a neutral source?

I remember having this thought as clear as day. This was during covid too.

Waking Up- Looking at Neutral sources- Information control

Hi all,

Regardless of the cult you escaped, whether if it was a traditional religious cult, or an online echo chamber.

One thing for me, was realising if what I believe is true why am I so scared to look at outside sources, why am i sacred to look at neutral sources.

Did you guys experience something similar that helped you wake up?

Former alt right pipeline member- what woke me up

Hi all,

I used to be in the alt right pipeline and got out/ deconstructed during Covid.

Some of the big turning points for me were the following:

  1. The misinformation spread about the covid vaccine, especially because they love to praise themselves on being “pro science” and they had praised the success of the polio vaccine. To me that was very hypocritical and something i couldn’t shake off.

  2. I also had this realisation of if what I believe is correct, why am I so scared to look at neutral and scientific sources.

  3. Another thing was abortion debate, and realising you can believe life begins at conception and still be pro choice, and I did thorough research on abortion, and realized I was wrong, it made me realize if I am wrong about this what else am I wrong about. So I started doing research one topic at a time and very quickly my whole worldview started to collapse.

I would like to hear your stories.

PE/gym teachers

Hey all, I am not a teacher BUT i am currently studying to be a teacher.

I dont know if some of you still have team captains and have them pick their teammates one by one.

But if that is you, i urge you to stop that practice.

What it does to the kids who constantly get picked last, overtime they get used to being picked last so they exclude themselves, because excluding yourself feels better than being excluded by others.

It can also lead to a dislike and avoidance of sports and even just exercise in general.

I believe that no good PE teacher would want to be part of the reason that people avoid exercise.

We understand we aren’t going to be professional Olympic athletes. But every child has the right to feel safe and supported doing exercise.

Alternatives:

Number the students off 1,2,1,2 ect

Have blue balls and red balls in a bucket every student blind picks and all the reds on one team and all the blue on the other team

Rank the students by skill level before the lesson and have the go best, second best, third best, fourth ect. But (maybe read the names out alphabetically- not in skill level order)

Lived experiences

Are you dyspraxic?

What type of dyspraxia do you all have. I have motor, oral and verbal

What are some things you wish people knew about dyspraxia?

What has your lived experience been with dyspraxia, and something most people take for granted but you had to work extra hard to achieve or still struggle with today?

And for any non dyspraxic people on here, what is something you would like answered about dyspraxia- and something that can really only come from people with lived experience, not “medical experts” and case studies.

Arguments we need to stop

I am extremely pro choice. I can debunk just about any “pro life” argument, and have counter points to them.

But one argument we need to stop saying is “you can’t have a death certificate without a birth certificate”

Heaps of people in the world, who are stateless for example do not have birth certificates. Also I do believe parents can get a death certificate for their babies if they are stillborn.

I understand what you are all trying to do with the argument but you need to stop, this is possibly the worst argument you can make as a pro choicer.

I am begging you to drop this argument.

With this argument you are equating someone’s worth to a legal document.

Why did everyone quit?

What was everyone’s biggest reason for quitting

Did you miss meat/ dairy. Did you quit overnight, or did you gradually start eating meat/ dairy again, like maybe once a month and just did it gradually? Have you thought about becoming a vegan or vegetarian again? How long was everyone vegetarian or vegan?

Afl team support

Afl- is a religion, you don’t pick your team you’re born into it.

  1. What team do you support

  2. Have you supported the team from birth, if no why (maybe you’re an immigrant?)

  3. If your team was to merge with another club, would you support the new merger club? For example Fitzroy lions and Brisbane bears becoming Brisbane lions

  4. If your team completely disappeared tomorrow, what team would you support

Believing and worshipping

I am not going to debate whether or not to believe in God, because belief is not a choice, it is the result of being convinced.

But let’s say for arguments sake, that God did convince people that he exist and he appeared in-front of me. Sure I would believe in him.

My question is does he deserve worship. Should I worship a God that flooded the earth, killed all the first born sons of Egypt ect, and still allows horrible things to happen today, like wars, disease, poverty, world hunger ect.

Ignorant comments on autism

I was recently with a group of people at work and we were discussing autism diagnosis.

They were saying things like, “we are all autistic” “it’s a spectrum” “kids are getting diagnosed too early” “you didn’t see the amount of autistic people when we were younger” just some really ignorant things, i wasn’t necessarily mad at them they are probably just uneducated it did however make me uncomfortable, how do you guys feel and react in these situations do you speak up or just be silent. Mind you I am autistic myself and was diagnosed at 2 years old. If they had known when we they were talking that they were saying that infront of an autistic person who was diagnosed young I wonder what their reaction would have been
