how to disable the failed pin system on the yubikey?
i don't want to be permanently locked out of my own key because of nosy or malicious roommates that want to sabotage you
plugging out and in a key multiple times means nothing when the roommate/thief is already physically there with ur key. this removal key fail pin system only protects against theft/remote hacking but not residential sabotage. currently the only method to prevent this issue is to have one key on you at all times and the other at ur place. then this goes to our next issue of how most usb key chain accessories suck at protecting ur usb device because they're usually too bulky/weirdly shaped, or are prone to being lost due to the twist cap design of most usb keychain cases
why didn't the engineers just add a triple question backup with 30alphanumeric character answers each (90total) that doesn't respond at all until all correct. the chances of getting all 90 characters right simultaneously without any responses/hints are near zero. and yet the engineers invented this lame fail protection by permanently making ur key useless unless you factory reset it. basically ur key's data is all gone cuz ur roommates decided to troll u (yes we live in an evil world sometimes). as long as it shows the amount of failed attempts and by the time you realize your key is tampered with or stolen, you'd easily use your backup to login and remove the vulnerable key from your accounts.
scarlettxsky i 100% agree with you, idk how others don't understand that your own family/friends can turn against you at anytime. not out of nosiness but just to spite you and permanently lock you out of your key. the user doesn't need ur computer because the authenticator app can be used on any computer to trigger the fail system on the key as long as the user has the key
