Micro update 7/5

Micro weighs 154 grams today! He is quite active in his bed - always burrowing or climbing to find the comfiest spot to nap! I’m always on the lookout for a suitable playmate for any singleton kittens when I have them - they really do best with a buddy. Here is Micro heading into a snuggly blanket fort to sleep. His booty is wet because I gave it a little sponge bath. 😊

Micro bonus update 7/5

First, Micro is FINE!! Quick update and a lesson learned: Remember how I said Micro was getting so strong and starting to explore a little too much and I was going to put the top on his bed? Well, I did, but for whatever reason, I didn’t shut the little door when I went to bed last night. When I got up to retrieve Micro for his 1am feeding…he wasn’t in his bed!!!! Y’all, when I say I panicked!!! He wasn’t on the table next to his bed, he wasn’t on the floor near the bed, he wasn’t under the table… We have 2 adult cats and I currently have 3 foster kittens and my mind went straight to the worst possible scenario which I can’t even bear to say out loud! I looked through all his blankets and started expanding my perimeter and, in less than 10 minutes (it was probably less than 5, but time was doing that thing where it was irrelevant), I heard a tiny squeak!!! Vinnie, the cockapoo, heard it too and immediately poked his head behind the recliner…and there was little Micro, mildly annoyed at his predicament, but completely unharmed. So, that was my learning moment for tonight and I guarantee it sank in real good! Back to our regularly scheduled updates later today. 🥴😊 Put suggestions for what crime(s) Micro should be charged with in the comments!

Micro update 7/4

Micro weighs 142 grams today! I can’t believe how fast he’s growing! His face is starting to fill out and he is just the perfect little handful! No eyeballs yet… My cockapoo, Vinnie, is the best nanny dog - whenever a kitten squeaks, Vinnie is right there monitoring the situation. He would love to carry the kitten’s around in his mouth, however it wouldn’t be safe, and that’s sad for everyone. 😢

Micro update 7/3

Today Micro weighs…[134 grams]!!! That’s more than double his found weight! What a little super star! He’s started threatening to climb out of his bed, so I’ll have to put the top on it before bed tonight. I use a guinea pig cage for all my neonates and, until now, Micro hasn’t moved around enough to need the wire top. But Micro is clearly an intrepid explorer so, for his safety, the top will go on tonight!

Micro update 7/2

Micro weighs 112 grams today! He still just sleeps between feedings, but he’s definitely more active during them! He’s gotten so fluffy compared to the silky baby he was just 10 days ago! Still no peepers peeking…

Micro update 7/1

Micro’s weight today is…106 grams! He is 9 days old and continues to amaze me with his strength and growth! Still waiting for his umbilical cord to fall off and his eyes to start peeking! What a little star! 😍 Here he is not staying where I put him and burrowing into his blanket!

Warning! There is loud music at the end!

Reposting because I can’t edit a post. Apparently, my Pandora app interrupted my recording and the result is sudden, unexpected, loud music at the end of the video. I’m SO sorry!

Anyway, little Micro weighs 96 grams today!!! What a little rockstar! He easily went 3 hours between nighttime feedings and still gained weight, so we’ll operate on that schedule for a while. This is him giving me the what-for because his milk is not warming up fast enough! 💕

Micro update 6/29

Does this kitten make my face look tired??? Micro weighs 88 grams this morning! He’s started eating larger quantities at each feeding and he’s got quite the soup belly! I might have slept through the 2am feeding - I remember thinking, “I need to get up. I have to get up”, but I don’t remember if I actually got up. 😕 I might try stretching nighttime feedings out to every 3 hours - if he continues to gain weight, we’re good; if not, I’ll have to go back to every 2 hours. He’s a little champ! Thank you for all your comments and support!

I was emphatically sent here with baby Micro

I got little Micro on 6/23 with umbilical cord still attached. He weighed only 64g (normal mewborn is 80g+). He’s kept warm, fed every 2 hours and is thriving! Today he officially reached 80g! Tiny kittens are so fragile, but I’m going to do my best to give him the best chance to grow big and strong!

Micro update 6/28

Good morning! Micro officially weighs as much as a “normal” newborn kitten at 80g! He started out at 64g which probably means he was born premature. He is 5 days old today (Birthday 6/23/26). He still has his umbilical cord attached, but it looks loose - I won’t touch it. Volume up for the tiniest purrs! Thanks for all the comments and awards on yesterday’s post! I’ll try to be good at updates (daily, if you want them that often), but feel free to DM me if I forget!

Foster baby, Micro

Micro was found a few days ago on the ground at a campground. The finders diligently searched for his mom or any siblings, but didn’t find any. I got him at 64g with umbilical cord still attached. He’s got a long road ahead of him, but so far, he’s strong as ever!

Barely a handful

Micro is my newest neonatal foster. Found alone on the ground in a campground, his finders took immediate action to get him to sometime who could help (me). He’s far from out of the woods, but so far, he’s one strong little tiger!

The tiniest of soup bellies

This is Micro, my newest neonate foster. He was found all alone on the ground in a campground. The odds are against him, but do far he’s a trouper!

[Michigan, USA]

Found several of these washed up on the southern shore of the Upper Peninsula, Michigan (so, Northern Lake Michigan beach). Will post any additional info (I.e. size) in comments, once I hear back from my friend who found it.

Coloring unglazed ceramic

I want to decorate some plain ceramic tiles. I’m going to etch a design into the finished ceramic with etching cream. I’ve time this before - it works very well. My question is: how could I color it to make the tucked area stand out? In the past, I have use rub & buff and that worked very well, but the colors are limited. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I’ve the only picture I could find of the rub & buff on glass. If anyone can think of any ideas, I’d love to try them!

Genuine question

For someone with decreased mobility: If a friend occasionally forgets that they are unable to do certain small tasks - opening a jar, for instance - would that feel affirming because the other person is “forgetting” or not focused on the disability, or would it be insulting because the other person is being inattentive to their limitations? For context, I am an able-bodied individual and I have a new love-interest who lives with MD. I will definitely ask him this question as well, but it made me curious to see how others feel.

Edit: Replaced poor choice of wording.

Life really does come full circle

Just had a full-circle moment: I remember in HS having to sneak around with boys because our parents were home. I just started seeing someone new and, now that school’s out, we’re trying to figure out how to sneak around because his kids are home! 😂 Gotta love this crazy life!

Update: Name given to tiny preemie kitten I am fostering

Thank you for all the name suggestions for this tiny little warrior! Despite my initial desire for a "strong" name, as is so often the way it happens, the baby's name came to me and just felt right. Mama is Fuzzy (the name she came with) and her baby has been named White Chocolate Raspberry Macadamia Nut (aka Mac). I guess they needed a very BIG name for a very tiny baby! They are both precious!
