My colleague passed away and I am having a tough time coping

My (33M) colleague (male 32 years), passed away this week from cardiac arrest. He's survived by his parents and his pregnant wife. Ever since I received the news, it's been hitting me hard because we were the same age and he was in good shape and physically active.

The company is operating as usual as is everyone else, after the initial shock. For some reason, it's affecting me hard. We were friends but certainly not close friends. It's the age aspect that's both shocking and scary. I also can't imagine what his wife's going through- from what I know, she's due in November.

Keep a check of your cardiac health folks, scary to see people out age bite the dust this early in life

Anyone done a road trip on bike from Pune to Kolkata?

As it says, looking for some opinions on doing a bike trip.

What route did you pick? Any routes/highways to avoid? Is 3 days enough or should I consider spreading the travel to 4 days?

For context, I am an experienced long route biker and have done a few long trips in the past. Last bike trip I took was from Kolkata to Chennai in November 2023.

My parents are still concerned about their social status in their 60s

My parents have been thinking of buying a new car and selling the one they have now. One of their neighbours is selling their 2020 Hyundai Aura to upgrade. I told my parents to inquire how much it costs, as I thought a car is a depreciating asset and they can save money with a used car in good condition.

My parents could not fathom the idea of buying a used car because "society wale kya kahenge". For them, paying a higher amount for a new car is better than buying a used car, if it earns then social currency. I tried for over a month to try and convince them and ultimately they decided to not buy the new car (cost reason) and didn't even ask about the second hand one.

I'm so pissed at their lack of planning and their obsession with social value. It's made me realise that their obsession with social value has made me actively not want to seek social validation (sometimes to my own detriment).

Just needed to vent. I wish my parents cared less about society and more about themselves.

Bug Info: Lags and Unable to Join back

Been facing a weird lag since the last two weeks (mobile player).

Occasionally even when my network is steady, my game faces a weird lag where the character will freeze mid movement. The game however doesn’t stop (I.e. it does not show the reconnecting sign). If I close the game and immediately try to log back in, the game does not take me back to the match and instead I am sent to the main screen again.

This has now happened in 5 matches over the past two weeks, and I’m wondering if there’s any workaround someone here could share? Is it a game bug or a network/device bug?

Celebrating 30 days Clean

33 year old male who's been addicted to porn for almost 18 years. Last month on my 33rd birthday while stoned and drunk and on my 5th hour of viewing porn, I finally quit porn (also quit weed and alcohol but those were more related to porn addiction)

In the last 30 days, it's been rough. The first week my anxiety and depressive thoughts spiked through the roof, I had a vivid dream of watching porn and I felt shame (in my dream). Took up cooking to pass the time I'd spend watching porn instead and lately have started to go for a walk and be outdoors to avoid any triggering thoughts.

It's still a journey and I reckon it's gonna be a whole while before I am fully free but it's actually nice to not be so dependent on something destructive. I also went to watch a movie in a theatre for the first time in 4 years and used the money I used to spend on weed, alcohol and porn subscriptions to buy a few comics and books in almost 8 years.

I don't have a support system so I just wanted to share this milestone here. Cheers all and here's to more days of no porn.

Just watched Everything Everywhere All At Once

I recognise that watching a movie might not be the most relevant to a subreddit like this, but I had to take a breather from the tears of joy and gratitude I felt watching this movie.

The story of Evelyn coming to terms with her daughter's sexuality, as explained through the lens of a 'what if'-esque scenario, the trauma of being rejected for your truth and the acceptance that if nothing matters then it's okay to be who we are in a universe where we are all ultimately very small in the grand scheme of things. The use of the hotdog fingers universe to depict something that on the outside seems unnatural, but ultimately is just a different way of life is such a beautiful way to showcase acceptance of our differences and finding a way to work through these challenges, was such a beautiful parallel to homophobia and ultimately accepting life and people the way they are.

The metaphor of the bagel, dark on the outside with a light in the middle was such a unique visual depiction of depression and suicidal thoughts. I loved the light in the middle- sort of representing the idea that sometimes those suffering from depression and mental health issues look at suicide as the light at the end of the tunnel, when we have bad days or things just don't seem to fix.

Just wanted to share while I work on my feelings and process my own nihilism.

AITAH for expecting my mum to cut ties with a relative who's been disrespectful and verbally abusive in the past

Context - 11 years ago, a relative of mine (my cousin) would deliberately attack my views on social media because of our differences in political views (I'm left leaning, he's right). At the time, I was 20 years old and my cousin is 22 years older than me. Eventually, in our extended family texting group he and I (and my sister) had a full blown argument where we called him out on his abusiveness.

He and his wife emotionally manipulated the situation by trying to pass the buck on to us by suggesting that they were well within their rights to comment on our posts and point out "wrong" political stances that they thought were inappropriate (they are anti-feminist, anti-lgbt, anti-minority). Eventually they called me and my sister some awful abuses and suggested some awful things about our characters, leading both of us to leave the group permanently.

Since then while my sister and I have cut him off our life, my mom continues to have a relationship with them. Her justification is that it would be immature to break off just because he's a POS and it would strain her relationship with her own sister (my cousin's mom).

Cut to today, and my mom was talking about how unbiased she is and I couldn't help but scoff and tell her she's biased. Because if the tables were turned, I would have cut him off my life if my mom was ever so horribly insulted by someone. This triggered my mom who said I'm being immature and I need to learn to forgive and forget even when neither me nor my sis were in the wrong here. She said that to cut off someone for insulting and disrespecting constantly will only weaken the family.

Some more context- about 17 years ago, a neighbour of ours slapped my mom unprovoked at a public function. I was so livid that I left multiple choicely worded voicemails and threw a bag of dog shit in their balcony just because she had hurt my mom for no reason. To this day, I stand by my actions even though they were juvenile. Because sometimes to love people is to stand up to those who would hurt them. And it hurts knowing my mom probably wouldn't do the same thing when the situation was reversed.

So, AITAH for expecting her to cut my cousin off for life?

Single people with dogs- how do you handle your pet at home when you go to work?

Do you guys use hostel/daycare services or leave them unattended at home? What's your daily cost like when you use daycare? And how much of a hassle is it to find pet friendly transportation services like autos, taxi etc?
