Yesterday I went to a neighborhood rummage sale. Figured I would get my steps in while looking at stuff. One side of the street had many houses with sales, the other side had only one. I could tell right away the table across the street had Nerf guns because I know those colors. I could see a young person sitting at the table and he looked a little lonely. I figured I might as well go over there just to look.

It was a teenaged boy, no more than sixteen years old. He was sitting in the chair and had two small talbes of Nerf guns and some video games. He had all his things priced and organized nicely. I asked him if this was his whole collection or if he kept some things. He said he kept some things. I told him how my son used to have a big collection and last year he was done with college so I asked my son if he wanted to keep any of his Nerf guns. My son told me to get rid of all of them but I didn't want to do that becuse he might still want to play with them someday. I did donate a lot of them. I told this teenager that I used to play Nerf with my son and I still might play with them someday. I spent time looking at all his stuff and talked about how we had this one, we didn't have that one, that's a good one.

We had a nice conversation. He was so nice and polite. I didn't want to walk away without buying something but I also don't need Nerf or video games or extra stuff in the house.

I told this teenager that my son moved out. I was trying very hard not to cry. I couldn't help it. This cute teeanager. The memories of playing with my son. With tears in my eyes I told him I would like to make a donation. He got a big smile on his face and asked, really? I pulled five bucks out of my pocket and gave it to him. His whole face lit up. He thanked me and we wished each other a nice day. I started crying as I walked away. I couldn't help it.

Then around the corner, at the next sale, I walked up and told that woman why I was crying. We then had a nice chat about being empty nesters. Her oldest kid moved out and is now a cop. She still has a teenager at home. I told her about this sub and how helpful it is. She said it's nice to talk to others that feel the same way about their kids moving out.

I had a nice conversation with an older man who was selling kids stuff. He said all his grandkids are too old for that stuff now. I told him I'm an empty nester and an having a hard time looking at the kids stuff. He talked about how awesome it is to have grandkids.

At the end of the street were two young girls selling lemonade and cookies. I had a nice conversation with them and bought some. My husband and I will always buy whatever the kids are selling at their stands/tables. Gives them practice talking, pouring, money transactions, etc. If we don't want to eat the treats or drink the sugary drinks we don't have to, we can dump them after we leave when we are out of sight. I like giving the kids a chance to experience selling and making money. I know we could just make a donation but I prefer to let them go through the motions of the money, pouring, safely serving the treats, talking. Makes their day.

I had a hard time looking at these rummage sales with all the cute baby/kids clothing and toys. I should really avoid rummage sales, though. I must look like a nutcase trying not to cry...

Yesterday my husband and I went into a store in a different city than we normally go into. This store has two stories with escalators and elevators. None of the other stores of this chain are built this way. We rode the escalator up (it's flat and wide enough to bring your cart on). At the top of the escalator is a piano, and a young man (teen or 20, maybe 21) playing the piano, even dressed up. He was so cute. I did not expect that at this kind of store (home improvement). I put a dollar bill on the piano (I saw that others had left him tips as well) and he said thank you. He was so cute.

Whenever we go out to eat we leave very generous tips to the young servers. We tip well for everyone but we give more to the young ones. They are out there, experiencing the world, good people and mean people. They are trying. If we know they are new, or can tell they are nervous, we will compliment them and tell them they are doing a good job.

Once we had a teenaged guy who obviously had autism. He did a wonderful job. We complimented him many times and thanked him. We gave him a hefty cash tip. It was so nice to see how well he knew the menu and took care of us.

I love seeing young people out working in the world. I always pray and hope that people treat my son well while he's at work. The world can be a scary, terrible place so we do what we can to bless others and spread happiness.

Recently I had a breakfast server job at a hotel. I had never done serving before. It was a Saturday and the other person who was scheduled with me called in sick (it was the manager actually). I was alone on a Saturday, to check in people, pour coffee, take their orders if they wanted an omelette instead of the buffet, clean/buss the tables, and set the tables with clean stuff. It was a nightmare. I apologized to each table, told them that the other person called in sick, I'm new, and thanked them for their patience. I was all over like a crazy person. I had to walk the orders for omelettes up the hall and give them to the cook. Walk back. Dishes off, dishes on. All the guests were super nice and said that I was doing a great job. One guy even brought his dishes to me in the kitchen. I told him he didn't have to do that and he said that he has the same kind of job and knows how it is. Not every table left a tip but most did. I really appreciated the tips, and the nice compliments from all the guests. No one complained or were upset. (So yes, please tip the hotel breakfast people if you sit there and eat. If you don't have cash, you can go to the check in counter and they can add it to your hotel bill)

Patience and understanding go a long way. A small compliment. That's all it takes. Tips help too haha

Hi, I just found this sub recently and I'm glad I did because I have extra stuff to send out. I don't need anything in return unless you have something to send me.

I would only like those who have not participated in this sub yet to respond. That way there is a better chance for people to get something if they weren't the first few to respond.

I don't know how many envelopes I will have yet, should be around ten I think. (The stuff is in piles right now)

Just saw this advertised. Michaels craft store (US and Canada) has a free event today, make a small junk journal. From 1:00-3:00 central time.

Check your location to see if they are doing it and what time.

It's a good time to try it for free. (Folding colored paper and cardstock to make the book and using their supplies). You can watch the video at the bottom of the link to see how they do it if you want to try it at home.

There's a small, cute coffee shop five blocks up from our house. The owner is so nice. There is a certain theme to it because she loves the theme and grew up collecting those things. I've been there a handful of times and we always have a nice chat. Last month I brought her three of those items to display and when I did she gave me a free latte. I told her she didn't have to but she insisted since I brought her the items.

This past weekend our only child came down to celebrate his 21st birthday. With us. His parents (he lives four hours away). We're having a hard time beng empty nesters but we're getting used to it. When he came down on Easter weekend I cried when he came in the house because we hadn't seen him since last year. Well this weekend I didn't think I would cry but when he left I gave him a hug and sure enough I cried. We had such a nice time with him here and we enjoyed spending his birthday with him. He said he would come back soon.

He left yesterday and I'm still a mess this morning. Decided to walk to the coffee shop to treat myself to a coffee. When I walked in the owner asked me if I was ok and I said not really. I tried to hold in the tears. She came aournd and gave me a hug and I said no one died, but, and as I cried I told her about the recent visit. She talked about her 21 year old son as well. I asked her for a small black coffee and she wanted to give it to me for free. I told her she didn't have to do that (how wil she make money if she keeps giving away free drinks). That hug and offer just made me feel so good. We are aquaintences, not really close yet, so for her to do that just made my day.

Usually I'm the one to try to bless others so when it happens to me I'm kind of shocked. I don't ever expect it. It feels good to help and bless others so that's what I'm used to.
