NWS says the first things to go under are low parking lots, bike paths, and harbor walkways.

So, locals: does the peninsula actually flood this time, or is this another nothing-burger? Anyone on Balboa Island putting sandbags out yet? And who's paddling out at the Wedge?

DHS says a boat carrying 14 people was intercepted south of Newport Beach on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. Everyone aboard was handed to Border Patrol and the boat was seized.

This is at least the third incident in about a month. Last month, video showed a boat docking inside the harbor and about a dozen people walking off into town, and 37 people were rescued offshore after two days without food, water or fuel.

Now Councilmember Erik Weigand wants two cameras at the harbor entrance watching boat traffic around the clock. It goes to city council next Tuesday, with no cost estimate yet.

Locals: has anyone actually seen any of this from the water or the jetty? And would you want cameras at the harbor mouth, or is that too much?

So Newport Beach just got an EMERGENCY permit to dig sand out of the Santa Ana River mouth in West Newport and pile it on our beaches.

The Wedge is basically gone. Balboa Pier got wrecked. And El Niño hasn't even shown up yet.

Here's the part that gets me. The county says it already delivered 360,000+ cubic yards of sand, and some of that is already back in the ocean.

So, we're just... doing it again? Right before the biggest storm season in years?

Filmed this along the Laguna/Dana Point coastline during the Hurricane Marie swell. Seawalls failing, sidewalks collapsing into the ocean, million-dollar oceanfront property getting eaten alive in real time. Meteorologists are saying a Kelvin wave and an overactive El Niño pattern mean this might just be the start.

Wild to watch in person — curious what people here think this means for oceanfront property values going forward.

Filming a show in Newport Beach and our Uber driver bailed on us mid-shoot without saying anything. Just drove off. This is apparently what "behind the scenes of reality TV" looks like sometimes 😂

Hurricane Marie made landfall as a tropical storm this year, way weaker than the 2014 version everyone still talks about. But it still pushed a solid swell into Southern California — Malibu, the Wedge, even parts of Central/Northern Cali got some rare hurricane surf.

Newport ended up being the standout though. Big barrels, serious power, the kind of waves that stick with you.

Newport Beach's Wedge does this thing every so often where a south swell hits the jetty just right and the waves basically explode into themselves. This week's hurricane swell pushed it into full send mode — waves stacking up and breaking just feet from the sand. Wild to watch in person, even wilder that people bodysurf/surf it!

So, I was filming something at Newport Beach and ended up finding out snakes have actually been spotted in the sand dunes there. Not something I expected walking around barefoot.

Did some digging and apparently, it's not some rare one-off — locals have mentioned seeing them before, just nobody really posts about it. Figured I'd share since I definitely didn't know before this and I go there a lot.

Anyone else run into this? Curious if it's a seasonal thing or if it's just always been under the radar.

Out filming for a show, cast member asks a random girl what her favorite bar in the city is. Standard question, expecting a standard answer.

She goes: "whichever one's still open. Zero hesitation. Said it like she's been waiting her whole life for someone to ask. The entire group just stood there for a second because there was no follow-up to that. You can't top it, you can only nod.

We've been going back and forth since — half of us think this is the single greatest answer a human being has ever given, the other half think it should be studied in a lab. No in-between.

So, settle it for us: is "whichever one's still open" elite-tier wisdom, or the most unhinged thing you've heard someone say with a straight face?

So, we were out filming for a new show (small local segment, nothing crazy) at this spot in Newport Beach — Class of '47'. Anyway, one of the girls just casually said 'it costs money to look this pretty, and don't you forget it' and it kind of took over the whole shoot. Half the crew was living for it, other half thought it was a lot. Curious what people here think — cute confidence or a bit much?

So, this happened at the Class of 47 Bar on the Beach News. What was supposed to be a chill 'movement class's for the grandmas turned into... this. Instructor said 'shake it' and they took it very literally. I'm still laughing. Video's not edited, just pure chaos and joy.

Found these two absolute geniuses trying to "untie" a boat. One's pulling the line attached to the dock. The other's pulling the line attached to the boat itself. Neither of them has clocked this yet.

Then a third seagull shows up, presumably their supervisor, and things don't improve.

10/10 commitment to the bit, 0/10 nautical knowledge. 🚢🕊️

Southern California's beaches have a new rule: shuffle your feet or pay the price!!! A marine heat wave just turned the shoreline into a stingray minefield — one stretch of Huntington Beach alone has logged over 2,000 stings this year, more than all of last year combined.

Lifeguards say the fix is simple: shuffle instead of stomp, and the rays swim off before they ever feel threatened.

Jackie was the first eaglet hatched on Big Bear Valley's nest cam back in 2012, and the camera turned her into one of the most-watched wild animals in the world. She was attacked by two younger eagles last month, rescued in critical condition, and spent three weeks getting treatment including a blood transfusion — but she died early Monday morning at Ojai Raptor Center.

She'd been with her mate Shadow for almost a decade and raised eight eaglets together. The center said her remains have been turned over to California Fish and Wildlife.

Just wanted to share since a lot of people followed her story over the years.

A female Dolphin was filmed carrying her dead newborn calf for six days after it died just two weeks after birth. This isn't her first loss — she's now lost five calves. Footage from Geographer Marine Research shows other dolphins joining her during this period, which researchers describe as grief.

Hurricane Genevieve's swell has been eroding sand at The Wedge in Newport Beach so fast it's exposing infrastructure that's been buried for decades — turns out there used to be an actual pier there, and the sand covering it is basically gone now.

Jeremy Wiegman (Yucca Fins) posted about it, saying the erosion has been getting worse over the past couple years, but this swell took it to another level — people are now getting exposed to rusty metal fixtures that can wash up and hit you. Koa Smith was out there too and said the beach line has moved so far back that "new stuff" is falling out every second, and he almost tripped over an old telephone wire that used to connect to a defunct lifeguard tower.
