Xenodice Chronicles: Introduction

A campaign comic is where speech bubbles are placed over screen shots from a film, to make it appear as if the film was being played as a TTRPG. I see no reason why this couldn't be applied to video games as well, so here we are. Xenodice Chronicles, Xenoblade 1 retold as if it were a game of D&D.

of Dice and Fodlan X: Leveling Up

At long last the party level up. It has been a long and cumbersome road (10 of these things), but they've finally made it.

Death of a Fighter Man

Character death is something that I find usually shocks new players, but for veterans its not a big deal. Most people are used to character deaths and take it in stride, as seen here. Of course, for high-level parties and parties with influence, death can be easily reversed with a raise dead spell. Because in actual Fire Emblem, your units stay dead if they are killed, raise dead is a banned spell for the purposes of this.

Of Dice and Fodlan VIII: After Long Last

After a long time, the party finally get to achieve their dream of actually killing foes. The GM (and the actual game) raise a fair point about how the students would react to their first kills. Dimitri and Felix already had theirs, but for the rest of the Lions, it's their first time. Most are dismayed, but Annette's on the other hand...

My alternate Rules for Ironfang Invasion's 'game of survival'

Basics.

  • Each day the player characters must make 2 checks to determine if the group is sheltered and if the group has something to eat.
  • Each player must announce what they are doing before they roll.
  • The check for shelter is either a 12 crafting (any) or 15 survival.
  • For provisions it is either a 12 survival or a 15 perception.
  • If the refugees go a night without shelter or food, each party member must make a 15 bluff, diplomacy, or intimidation check to keep morale up.
  • If the check is failed 2 days in a row, 1d3 refugees succumb to the wilderness. At this point another charisma check must be made at a 20, that decreases by 2 for each point or morale.

NPCs.

  • Vane adds a +1 to building shelter.
  • Jet adds a +1 to gathering provisions.
  • Kinning reduces the chance for a random encounter by 5%.
  • Rynea can use her heal skill to provide long term aid or cast 1st-level cleric spells.
  • Lirosa/Tidel have a 50% chance of finding out something about the next encounter.

Other.

  • The player characters automatically succeed at their gathering provision roll for days equal to provision points from Phaendar/refugee count
  • If an event matches with a resource it can provide, then the player characters automatically succeed at either their provision or shelter check for the day. This is up to the GM’s discretion.

Banner.

  • The hemlock banner grants the effects of a cavalier’s banner during random encounters.

of Dice and Fodlan V: Weapon of Choice

Counting up the damage we dealt in a game was something that me and my friends started when we were kids. Since it matched up with with the MVP system in Three Houses I decided to make a joke out of it.

On the other joke of today's comic, is me poking fun at the weapon focus feat. A feat where you have permeant +1 with a weapon of your choice. It's a handy feat, but it is really limited by having to choose only 1 weapon. As such, if you pick an exotic weapon, its harder to get the specific weapon you need. Felix of course uses a katana.

Fire Emblem: of Dice and Fodlan (I'm unsure who will actually find this funny, but I had a fun time making it.)

For background, there have been several parodies about movies being D&D campaigns on the internet in this style. I have decided to try my hand at making one for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. See Darths and Droids/DM of the Rings for reference.

The yellow boxes are the GM speaking, while the white boxes are being spoken by the character portrait above it.

I recently posted this on the Three Houses subreddit, although I thought that this subreddit might also enjoy it.

of Dice and Fodlan IV: Munchkin Logic

Ah, Munchkins one of the many kinds of RPG players. Some people play to act, some play to fight monsters, and Munchkins play to win. To a Munchkin it is all a matter of how much EXP and treasure one can gain as fast as they can. To a Munchkin alignment and roleplay are nothing but mechanics to further their goals.

Such Munchkins have existed ever since RPGs began, and will remain a thing until the heat death of the universe. Although I wouldn't put it beyond a Munchkin to find a way to survive past that.

of Dice and Fodlan III: Down-Time

Aw yes, the coveted down time from adventurers. Something every player wants, but nobody really knows what to do with.

Fire Emblem: of Dice and Fodlan- The GMPC

If anyone has ever played a TPRG, they have most likely encountered the dread Game Master's Player Character. This PC out shines the rest of the party and gets special treatment. Often treated as the perfect 'chosen one' as it were. Thus is my comparison to every Fire Emblem avatar from Kris to Byleth.

Of course not all GMPCs are this bad. Sometimes I have a random GMPC join my party when there aren't enough members to play. However, these GMPCs are often used as glorified 10-foot poles which can fight.
