How much training do I need to ride 120km in one day?
I just got a road bike. I’m pretty comfortable with rides up to 40km. The longest I’ve done is 70km on my mountain bike. I’m also a regular bicycle commuter, and I can run a 15 minute 5k so my aerobic fitness probably won’t be the bottleneck, it’s the muscular endurance. I just got a road bike so my friends and I want to ride to a landmark that’s 60km away then ride 60km back home. Would I be able to do this by next week? Let me know your thoughts.
Is Fredericton Bike Friendly?
I will be moving to Fredericton from Toronto in September and was wondering if biking is a viable way to get around. I’m planning on building a mid drive e-bike.
Bike Commuting + Baggy Pants
I have the privilege of getting to bike everywhere, including when I’m just going out casually. When I go out I tend to wear baggy pants which gets caught in the chainrings. Almost all my pants have some kind of rip, tear, or hole at the bottom. I tried carrying tape in my saddle bag and taping the bottom of my pants tight but that leaves sticky residue that’s hard to remove and makes me so sweaty from lack of ventilation. How do I solve the baggy pants problem?
2004 (?) Scattante CFR Carbon Road Bike - $600 CAD
I'm looking to buy my first road bike and I found a full carbon, full dura-ace 2x10 speed Scattante CFR road bike. From my research its from 2004-2005. Theres not a whole lot of information about the brand online. Just wondering if $600 Canadian dollars is worth it for this bike or if I should look for something newer. I haven't seen it in person yet so I've no idea about the condition of the carbon. I'm also eyeing a 2013 GT Series 3 for $450.
How do you get comfortable riding on the roads?
This is a question for all the North Americans, specifically the US and Canada. How did you get over being scared of riding on the roads? I'm from Ontario, Canada and I've been mountain biking for a while, which only includes riding on the sidewalks to get to the trails, then riding on the trails. When I commute on my bike I always stick to sidewalks because I'm too scared of getting hit by a car, or even getting passed too close. As I make my switch to triathlons I am now riding a road bike which is painful to ride on the sidewalk. How do I get more comfortable riding on the roads?
Who is responsible for maintaining these trails?
These are the trails by the highway 403 and credit river. Is it legal for me to bring my own chainsaw and clear the path?
What should I look for when buying a used road bike?
I ride mountain bikes but I want to get into triathlons so I’m looking for an entry level used road bike. I’m a noob when it comes to road bikes, I just know my size would be 54-56cm. What are things I should look for? What are things I should avoid? What should I look for when I’m test riding it? My budget is $700-$900 Canadian dollars.
Temporary Housing
I’m on the waitlist for a residence room and was offered a temporary bed in a lounge room. Was wondering how high the probability is that I get an actual room assignment before move in day? Obviously a bed in a lounge room isn’t ideal and I’m moving to UNB from Ontario so I have no other place to go.
Thanks.
What’s with these drivers?
Got honked at for walking across the crosswalk. Two cars were in the middle of the intersection waiting to turn left. They both started moving AFTER I started crossing. First sedan honked at me. Second pickup truck honked and nearly ran me over. I had to sprint to avoid death or serious injury. Neither of them even slowed down in the slightest. Happened at Erin Mills and Dundas. In broad daylight. No it was not an advance left turn signal, I had the white crosswalk signal.
It’s always the Nissans and pickup trucks dude.
How is public transit in Windsor?
I will be visiting Windsor for two days and wondering if the car rental cost is worth it or if public transit is sufficient.
Waitlisted for residence..
Is there a chance I get into residence? I paid the 800 dollar deposit in the middle of May. I am a first year undergrad student coming from Ontario. I got an email today saying I was put on a waitlist. The reason I did it so late was because I was waiting for decisions from Ontario universities before committing to UNB.
Looking for steeplechase tips
I’m running a 2k steeplechase this week and I need some tips. I ran 6:49 and 6:39 for my first two 2k steeples and my goal is 6:25. My flat 2k time is around 5:54-5:55 (based on a 3k time of 8:58). The thing I struggle with the most is approaching the barriers. I tend to stutter and then ruin the approach or end up putting my foot or even hands on the barrier. I’m wasting a lot of precious time/energy stuttering and hurdling weirdly as a result. I also find that I can hurdle perfectly in practice but not in the race for some reason. Any tips to improve this?
Any and all steeplechase tips are welcome as well. I think my water jump is fine and I can provide a video of it if you want.
