Voigtländer 110mm f2.5 APO Lanthar Macro

An absolutely beautiful manual focus macro lens that I found used for a fantastic price.

For those who can’t see the display issue…

…I can only describe it like a subtle chromatic aberration. Seen in both vertical and horizontal positions but more exaggerated when viewing horizontally as if to take a photo or view a video. I attached a photo showing what chromatic aberration looks like in general as an example (the photo is not of the actual screen it is for illustration purposes) and then a photo of the actual S26 Ultra screen taken on a 17 Pro Max.

Switching from iPhone

I'm taking advantage of some return policies right now and am test driving both the 17 Pro Max and S26 Ultra, both 512gb. Coming from 12 pro max.

Long story short, I'm very impressed with the s26 ultra and am planning on going with it going forward, but i have a question.

With current Best Buy trade in rates, i only get $130 for the 12 Pro Max. The s26 ultra is currently on a pretty decent sale for all models at $200 off. Should I return both phones, trade in the 12 pro max and end up spending another $146 and get the 1tb model with 16gb ram?

I'm unfamiliar with how Android operates over time and used to smooth ios even after years on an older device

First iPod since my 1st gen nano lol. Been a while. Glad to be back! Seems like super low hours on this thing, might not even flash mod it

A menagerie of madness

My current rotation is as follows:

Top left: Paperwhite 12th gen 16gb
Top right: Colorsoft 16gb
Bottom: Scribe 2024 16gb

Op-ed (fairly long):

The undisputed best display of any ereader in terms of contrast, quality and readability that I have ever experienced is the Paperwhite 12th generation. The porcelain-like white and inky black paired with a perfectly warm front light is e-reading nirvana. I would 100 percent recommend this device, however ONLY if you are able to find one with an even front light. More on this later.

I find the Colorsoft to be fascinating and quirky, but ultimately cannot take it seriously. While the colors prove themselves to be a neat gimmick, especially when viewing simple color comics such as Dragonball, the readability to my eyes suffers drastically as a result of the color filter. The halving of the DPI and inherent darkness creates a murk that becomes a strain to wade through, exacerbated by the need to always use the front lighting; which is tuned to skew more cool-blue throughout the first three quarters of the warmth slider range, rather than the more naturally yellow hue from its black and white relative. Further, the type of content you would want to read in color on this device does not suit its small display size. In the example above, the same content is more easily readable on the Paperwhite due to the huge advantage in display clarity and contrast. This does not seem so obvious in the photograph but I promise in person the distinction is easily seen. I would imagine the Colorsoft Scribe to fare much better in this regard, but I have not tried it. I cannot recommend the Colorsoft based on my experience and am planning on selling mine to someone who can find more enjoyment in it than I.

The 2024 Scribe is absolutely fantastic (I got it used about a month ago for an incredible second hand deal $120USD!). While the display quality is one or two bar below the Paperwhite, the size and high DPI make for incredibly solid readability. The form factor lends itself well to handling; having an area to hold the device without worry of accidental screen swipes is a proven and excellent e-reader design that is executed well here. In terms of contrast, the carta 1200 screen on display does not match the carta 1300 of the Paperwhite, which is simply in another league. The whites are not close and the blacks are similarly distant. This may seem like a criticism but surprisingly it isn’t. Reading black and white content, especially comics, on the 2024 Scribe feels like reading them on a newspaper; which fills me with nostalgia and love for the device. It reminds me of when I was a kid reading the Sunday strips on the fresh print that was dropped on the front porch that morning. Blacks are lifted, whites are more like gray, and the overall look is just beautiful in a filmic sort of way. Even though the contrast is not as high as the Paperwhite, it is still very high and does not require any effort whatsoever to read your way across. And the front light! It is absolutely dead even and pleasantly soft, which seems to be common with the carta 1200 offerings from Amazon’s past devices.

Speaking of front lights, there seems to be a bit of a gate. I got dragged in the E-Reader subreddit for mentioning I had gone through NINE Paperwhite 12 gens before I got one with a perfectly even front light with no yellow line or yellow gradient or hotspot in the bottom. I am extremely sensitive to the changes of light along the reading surface and since I do most of my reading at night in a dimly lit environment, consistency in this regard was paramount. It is also the reason I have since bought and returned two 2025 Scribes in the past week (seeing as how good the Paperwhite display is, I had to know how nice the latest scribe offering looked), as both featured uneven brightness and warmth across the screen from right to left. Without the front light on or in a well lit environment however, it is absolutely stunning in the same way that the Paperwhite is….which may drive me to madness again in the search of a perfect one. If you are considering the models with the carta 1300 display please be advised, if you are sensitive to this, it is 1000% a lottery. If you do get one that is just right, take solace in the fact that you probably have a diamond in the rough.

Am I too picky about front lights?

I don’t know if I got unlucky or what but I went through 9 kindle Paperwhite 2024’s before I got a front light that was perfectly even.

I am currently on my 2nd kindle scribe 2025 which I am about to return because it’s front light has a gradient across the screen, and while slight, I can still tell which side has the lights installed because it’s brighter.

I have a 2024 scribe which I bought used and somehow has a perfect front light, but I do like the 2025 due to higher contrast, lighter weight, faster speed, more storage space.

I am sort of willing to do the whole return game again but it is a draining process and frustrating too.

Am I being too picky? I do a lot of reading at night and I’m just really perceptive to light changes on these things and I feel like if I’m spending my money on a premium device I should have no compromises.

I’m also feeling like whatever Amazon is doing to manufacture devices with carta 1300 is yielding extremely low amounts of even light throw. Seeing as how many paperwhites I’ve gone through and the fact that the 2024 with a carta 1200 looks perfect off the rip.

Anyone else have an unevenly-lit kindle scribe 2025?

Just getting a feeler if this is common or not, I have a 2024 with a more even front light and wondering if it’s worth playing the screen - return lottery.

Pic 1 is 2025 scribe, pic 2 is 2024 scribe

Shoutout to EVGA

I haven’t seen the inside of my PC for a while so took it all apart for a deep clean and rebuild. I just kind of sat for a while looking at the card and got to thinking, I’m going to be pretty damn sad when this thing eventually gives out.

This card has been so good since I got it and I feel like it’s aged really well. I don’t do AI development, just gaming so I can’t speak to it as a workstation card.

Just been super solid and looks so good, the design is unique and not gaudy like a lot of other designs out there.

Wish EVGA were able to stay in the game but don’t blame them for doing what they had to do.

Anyone here have the Onthemoon Spacecraft hardware unit?

Just curious where you place it in the chain, I’m thinking about putting it at the end right before the AD. Also finding that it takes some life out of the upper midrange with “space” engaged. Maybe need to put it before an EQ instead?

I like what it is doing a lot on certain material but it is definitely something you have to be careful with. Not a lot of user experience info online about this piece

The speakers are overkill for the current setup but they will be perfect when I build out a studio space at my next place. They are absolutely incredible. Dynaudio Core 59
