I created a Scene Capture 2D system for the magnifying glass mechanic in my horror game, REHAUNTED. Its core mechanic allows you to see paranormal activity only through the magnifying glass!

We’re working on a mechanic where paranormal objects and entities can only be seen through the player’s magnifying glass.

To achieve this, we’re using a Scene Capture 2D component that renders a separate version of the environment inside the lens. The biggest challenge so far has been image quality. Even after testing different settings and optimizations, the captured image still has some noticeable flickering and looks significantly worse than the normal game render.

At the same time, the game still needs to maintain a stable frame rate, so we’ve had to make a few visual compromises.

I’m curious what you think about the mechanic itself. Does seeing paranormal activity exclusively through the magnifying glass seem interesting to you? Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We just announced Rehaunted, our indie horror game we made from our bedrooms.

Hi all,

We just announced our first project through IGN. Our goal is simple: to create something truly disturbing, intense and terrifying. We want the player to feel constantly on edge, not only because of jumpscares, but through the atmosphere, sound, story and the feeling that something is always wrong.

Don’t worry tho, there will be jumpscares too, strong and creative ones, not cheap scares thrown in for no reason.

If you like what you see, please support us by wishlisting the game and let us know what you think: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4538140/Rehaunted/

We’re here to talk, listen and improve, every comment and piece of feedback is welcome.
