Which one would you choose

A full-ride nursing scholarship + a guaranteed job(I can't leave once i start i or i'll have to pay the tuition fee, i have to sign a contract.... and i must work in their hospital for 4 years after graduating),
OR taking a gap year to apply to medical schools and hoping for a scholarship because my family can’t afford medical school at all?
Medicine has been my lifelong dream, and I honestly hate nursing. I know it ultimately depends on the person, but please give me your honest opinions because I’m genuinely desperate 😭
It feels selfish to choose medical school when there’s a guaranteed opportunity right in front of me and my family need me to graduate and start earning ASAP, and almost everyone is dependent on me choosing nursing at this point if i change my mind last minute a lot of people will be disappointed , but at the same time… medicine is my dream. I’m scared of making the wrong choice and regretting it later.

In extreme need for an advice

I’m a 2026 high school graduate, and becoming a doctor has been my dream for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, I can’t afford medical school, so I’ve been searching for scholarships.
I currently live in Saudi Arabia, where scholarship opportunities for non-Saudis are extremely limited. The only scholarship I received is for nursing. It covers my education and guarantees a job at a top hospital, but nursing has never been my passion.
My other option is taking a gap year, to complete the remaining exams I need, and applying for medical school scholarships abroad. I’ve been looking into China because it offers more scholarship opportunities, and I’m especially interested in its growing neuroscience research, as I hope to specialize in neurology one day.
My biggest concern is whether studying medicine in China would make it significantly harder to pursue residency or specialization in countries like the US or Europe.

Is taking the risk of a gap year worth it, or would you choose the guaranteed nursing scholarship? How internationally recognized is a Chinese MBBS degree? If your long-term goal were to specialize in neurology in the US or Europe, would studying in China put you at a disadvantage compared to other countries? Are there any better scholarship options I should be looking into?

Thoughts on RN to MD pathway

Hi everyone,
I’m currently navigating a challenging path toward my dream of becoming a physician. As an expat living in Saudi Arabia, my options for medical school are extremely limited and prohibitively expensive, and full scholarships for medicine are nearly impossible to secure.
However, I have an opportunity for a fully funded nursing (RN) scholarship at a specialized private college here in Riyadh. The program is excellent, but it comes with a mandatory service commitment to work at their affiliated hospital for a few years after graduation.
I’ve been considering a strategic alternative to the traditional "Pre-med" route. Often, it’s assumed that one must major in Biology or Chemistry to be a competitive medical school applicant in the US or Canada. However, I’ve realized that admissions committees don't necessarily prioritize the major itself; they prioritize the completion of the required science prerequisites (like General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Biology).
My plan is to pursue the Nursing degree, which provides a solid clinical foundation and guarantees immediate employment. I intend to complete all necessary science prerequisites during my undergraduate studies. However, I’m concerned because my college is quite small and the schedule is very intensive; I’m not yet sure if they will allow me to take extra courses, summer classes, or overload my schedule to fit in those specific science prerequisites.
If the college doesn't allow me to take those extra science courses during my degree, I am considering taking them as a "post-bacc" or through community college/online courses after graduation while I fulfill my service commitment.
I would love your honest feedback on this

Is the "RN to MD" pathway considered a sound and realistic strategy, even if I have to complete some prerequisites after my nursing degree?

Would my clinical experience as an RN provide a significant advantage in the medical school application process, or could it be seen as a distraction?

Given that I might not be able to fit the prerequisites into my nursing curriculum, do you think this approach is still viewed favorably by admissions committees?

I truly appreciate any insights or personal experiences you can share. Thank you!
