Post-vocalic /r/ reduction (or derhoticization) happens when the "r" sound following a vowel is weakened, dropped, or turned into a simple vowel sound (like in British non-rhotic accents or when a Bostonian says "cah" for "car").
It used to be more common, now its mostly just in New England, New York, and Louisiana
