Yesterday.
We went to my wife’s parents’ farm to grab some apples.

200A(s)
10/68 (with original Pyrex globe) and 12/65 (with older ‘Sunshine of the Night’ Pyrex globe and spark igniter).
I’ve serviced both, and I’ve learned a lot over the past couple of weeks. Very useful and enjoyable.
I don’t normally run them indoors - this was strictly for the photos.
First post here - I have an old Coleman lantern for which I lost the nut that secures the top vent..
So, I bought a nut for it (which I thought was brass..). It is cadmium plated.
The vent heats up to 700F, and I was standing near it in my garage for 5 minutes, including some flare at start up (45 seconds of flames, running rich).
The vent was covered in black soot, more than I’ve seen in the past. I’ve since replaced the nut with an actual brass one..
Any experience or awareness here of the dangers of this type of exposure?
Thanks in advance - any thoughts appreciated.
I turned off the lamp and walked away, found a small flame burning near the fuel know. Assuming it’s the valve.. Is this likely to be an issue with the packing?
Advice / thoughts much appreciated..
Bought one for my wife a couple of years ago (dated 10/63), and father in law gave me one recently (dated 10/68).
After the 3rd Chinese fuel pump failed (blame American businesses)..
I purchased a freshly rebuilt AC fuel pump, clocked it and installed. These were OEM ford
Ford 390s during the 50s and 60s.
No comparison in the build. In fact,
the AC weighs three times what the Chinese pumps do, and you can see why in person, and disassembly (to clock / index into position).
One thing - the threads from my power steering pump bracket attachment points were shot.. I installed helicoil inserts (did the fuel pump attachment holes, too.
Also - I converted the bottom attachment for the power steering pump to a through bolt and nut.
I’m very happy with the way this turned out -
test drove for about 30 miles (20 of those on the highway at over 80, to keep up..).
The pump should be good for decades. If not, there were so many of these made that rebuild kits are still being manufactured.
Reliability is important, and this is a very serviceable alternative for people feeling locked i to using cheap knock-off parts.
No proper bar tape, gum hoods, and NO rim tape. Meticulously maintained.
Awesome loop ride this morning on De Rosa 1978 - it can be a museum bike some other day.
Keeps time @10 seconds / day, but I’ll be tearing this down to clean, oil, and realign the day wheel.
Enjoying my inherited 1972 today. Keeps good time and the JB Champion 14K GF bracket is sublime, very comfortable.
This belonged to my grandfather, an electrical engineer. I just installed a fresh 344 and it is humming along nicely with its original JB Champion bracelet - wearing it in to work today.
