Some World Mission Society Church of God leaders have recently responded to these photos by saying, “What’s wrong with him swimming or eating cake? He came as a human.”

And they’re absolutely right — there is nothing wrong with a human being enjoying life.

There is nothing wrong with swimming, eating good food, celebrating with family, or spending time with your children.

The issue is not the photos themselves.

The issue is the narrative the church has spent years creating around Ahn Sahng Hong.

For years, members have been told that he lived a life of nonstop suffering and sacrifice.

They say he only owned one suit.

They describe him spending all of his money on ink and paper to publish “truth books” that have since been revised and altered multiple times by the church.

Members are shown dramatic reenactment videos of him stumbling through mountains, bleeding from his shoulders, and endlessly suffering for the sake of the members.

Even many of the New Songs focus almost entirely on the idea that he suffered continuously for 37 years.

So when members see normal photos of him enjoying life with family, eating cake, or swimming, it clashes with the image the organization carefully built over decades.

Not because there is something wrong with those activities — but because the church presents a one-sided story designed to emotionally pressure members into guilt, sacrifice, and unquestioning devotion.

Of course Ahn Sahng Hong likely experienced hardship at certain points in his life.

Most human beings do.

Poverty and struggle are part of many people’s stories.

But the World Mission Society paints a picture where his life was nothing but constant pain and self-denial, as though he never experienced ordinary human joy for even a moment.

That is not an honest portrayal of a person’s life.

It is emotional manipulation.

Guilt is one of the most common psychological tools used in high-control groups and cults.

The more guilty members feel, the more they work, obey, recruit, donate, and silence their own doubts.

This organization is no different.

Please research deeply.

Ask questions.

Compare the church’s claims with actual history and evidence.

Most importantly, keep your eyes open and allow yourself to think critically without fear.

A faith built on truth should never fear questions.

If questioning leadership, doctrine, or history leads to guilt, isolation, or fear, that is not spiritual freedom — it is control.

Real love does not demand blind obedience or punish critical thinking.

You deserve the right to think clearly, ask hard questions, and make decisions without manipulation or pressure.

The moment you stop fearing the truth is the moment you begin reclaiming yourself.
