How does language work in WoF? (book 16 spoiler alert)

I was thinking about the Dragon language and how it seems to be naturally present in dragonets, even without having been taught by other dragons?

In the end of the prologue of Moon Rising, Moon calls out the word “Mommy” despite presumably not knowing what that word means. Her mother used it in a sentence, but she hasn’t been specifically taught it or anything. This could be chalked up to her being a mind reader, but then how do you explain Sky?

Sky and Wren

He was raised entirely by a human/scavenger, and wasn’t taught Dragon by any actual dragons. But then how does he still know how to speak it? How can Snowfall and the other dragons understand him? He must have naturally learned the language somehow. Maybe it’s born into all dragons, and any dragonet or adult naturally knows how to speak it?

But then why did the Lost Continent dragons change their language? They were once Pyrrhian; they spoke Dragon along with everyone else. But after the LeafWings and BeetleWings were exiled from Pyrrhia, they started speaking a very different language that sounds completely different from Dragon, referred to in the wiki as Pantalan.

The Dragon language hasn’t evolved on Pyrrhia whatsoever between the era of Darkstalker and the present day, since Darkstalker has no issues speaking with any of the current dragons. Given that Umber and the other Dungeon Isle dragons can understand everything spoken in the memory room scenes, and they can also understand Precipice’s message about the two eggs, the language has remained the same from then too. So how, in the span of roughly 1,000 years, did Dragon evolve into Pantalan, when it never evolved like that on Pyrrhia?

The SharpWings also know how to speak Dragon, apparently? Umber and Quokka can understand them just fine, and they also have their own vocabulary?? They call normal dragons ‘squishy ones’ and call themselves, well, SharpWings. Since Precipice enchanted them to come to life altogether, maybe they just naturally knew how to speak the language?

What do you guys think??

Animus theory with book 16

Could Harmony, the dragonet who hatched at the end of book 16, be an animus?

Jerboa's exact spell, word for word:

"I hereby enchant this candleholder. When I shatter it, I shatter the power of all current animus dragons. From now on, no new spells cast by any animus dragon alive today will ever work again. Also, from this point forward, I will grow old and die, like any normal dragon. I make this spell irreversible by any animus, including myself."

Harmony has webbed claws, which means she is part SeaWing is a hybrid of many different tribes (she has RainWing scales, SeaWing webbed claws, Beetlewing antennae, etc. If she was part IceWing, she could potentially have animus powers. Since she was born after Jerboa cast the spell, she would still be able to enchant things and use her power.

There isn't a ton of evidence for this but I find it fun to imagine

Are my fish overfed, underfed, or neither?

I've been feeding these new ember tetras a few times a day so far, but most of that is water since their current food is thawed out brine shrimp mixed with water

u/SnooFoxes1943 — 13 days ago

Had to make this sign so I would stop overfeeding

I've only had my embers for two days and they've already learned to beg 😭

refrigerating thawed brine shrimp?

I have 6 ember tetras I added to my 20 gallon shrimp tank yesterday evening. They have settled in pretty well and are feeding on the cyclops all over the glass. I have some frozen brine shrimp cubes but they are a bit large. Would it be possible to thaw out a cube in a cup, use part of it, and put the rest of it in the fridge for a later meal or later day? I have no method of splitting up the cubes other than thawing them out completely.

New entity concept: Cornibus-ingens (Greater alcea)

  • often found grazing in small herds
  • will not attack UNLESS they are hit - they have a fear level similar to hawks, more on that later
  • can be ridden as a mount
  • scared by dogs, LARGE hawks*, giants, old birds
    • will sometimes then stampede away to a diff location, outrunning players.
    • in larger numbers, may choose to retaliate by lowering their heads and charging, possibly impaling their attacker on the large antlers
  • found on forested and snowy moons (not desert).

*smaller hawks, tulip snakes, manticoils, etc don't scare them. The alcea closest to the new creature will simply approach and attempt to investigate it by sniffing at it with its trunk.

Sigurd's danger level: 10%

Scientific name: Cornibus-ingens

The greater alcea is a large ungulate of the family Cervidae.
Its defining features are its vast set of antlers and its
elongated snout, referred to as a proboscis or trunk. Adult
alceas typically stand to roughly eight feet at the shoulder, with
females often being slightly shorter than males. They are found
in herds of around 5 to 10 individuals across the Green Witches.

All alcea, regardless of gender or season, sport a vast rack of
3-foot-tall, branching antlers used for mating displays or protection.
Alcea are born with simple bumps atop their heads, which gradually
branch out and grow with age. Despite their size, they are made of an
airy, durable material similar to keratin, making them deceptively
lightweight. These magnificent antlers (as well as the rich, slightly
sweet taste of their meat) put the species at significant risk by
big-game hunters before reservations were set aside to increase
native populations.

Alcea tend to be gentle and inquisitive, often approaching visitors
or other animals to get a close look. If you encounter any alcea on a
hike, consider yourself incredibly lucky, appreciate them from a
distance, and move on. It is highly encouraged not to make sudden or
quick movements; alcea will not hesitate to defend themselves or their
 young from possible threats.

rich dared me to try riding one. i,m not a wimp or anything so i
tried to get on it and it just let me! it was like riding a horse! well
until desmond made me get off. i hope it charges at him next time we
go to March hes such a killjoy -the indomitable Sigurd!!

they have a fear level and an anger level.

If their fear levels are high (caused by loud noises; nearby dogs, large hawks, or other large hostile entities; nearby players holding weapons), then they will stampede in a large group to a different location on the map, outrunning even the lightest player.

if their fear levels and anger levels are both low, they will remain where they are, wandering in a small area grazing or lying down. in this stage one or two players may mount one and ride it somewhere, although the speed is slower than the player sprinting speed, and if the fear level or anger level rises in this stage it will forcibly dismount any players riding it.

If anger levels are high (caused by anything attacking it or getting close to a baby alcea), it will lower its head and charge the attacker. this can be a good distraction for eyeless dogs, old birds, etc.

It has interactions with other smaller outdoor entities, where it sniffs at them with its trunk.

feiopars and kidnapper foxes also hunt/stalk it.

What fish should I add to my cherry shrimp tank?

It's a moderately planted 20g long with driftwood and a small cherry shrimp colony of about 40 something individuals (last I counted when feeding).

I want some kind of schooling fish for the tank, preferably red to match the shrimp.

I'm considering chili or strawberry rasboras, but I don't know if my LFS will have them and I'd prefer not to get them shipped online.

How do you think the game's popularity will be after it's fully completed?

will it turn out like R.E.P.O. or Content Warning? specifically,

- will it still get updates every so often, adding new monsters, tweaking aspects, adding new mechanics and so forth, remaining relatively popular?

-- will it stop getting updates completely and consequently die in popularity?

As much as I hate the idea of the game losing much of its fanbase to a stagnant game, Zeekerss can't keep working on this project forever. What do you guys think?

Doors that require power to be closed for some reason???

Especially when it would be really helpful to stay closed, please. lol i get that it makes them overpowered if they can just stay closed and protect you from everything but it's rather stupid...

1-5 - In Lethal Company, eyeless dogs, baboon hawks, feiopars, and Masked are all able to get inside the ship and kill any players inside. None of them can open the HYDRAULIC ship doors. The doors can stay shut when you’re in orbit—why should that change if you’ve landed on any moon? Instead, there’s a battery percentage that decreases as the doors are shut…

Again, the ship literally flies into outer space. It can stay there with doors shut for as long as necessary...

also there's nothing that can damage the ship. Huge forest giants? Can walk on the railing no problem. Giant heavy dogs with massive teeth and lashing tails that lunge to attack? Not a scratch. 20-foot-tall mechs with rocket launchers and stomping feet? Literally unscathed...

(sorry about the quality on slide 4. the feiopar ate the pixels)

6 - FNAF, same thing.

obviously it would make the game super easy if you could just keep the doors shut the whole time, but it just doesn’t make sense to have them like this…

So can Barbers open doors or nah?

Reading up on the Barber since I've never experienced it in person, and I wanted to know how to deal with it. The wiki article is a little ambiguous though. Can Barbers open doors or no?

I have a low-tech 20g tank and it's been struggling with algae since i set it up in October, although I've got it under control lately.

My substrate is fluval stratum in mesh bags under a layer of black diamond gravel/sand. I have rotala, bacopa, anubias, bolbitis, dwarf hairgrass, california val, dwarf sag, amazon sword and aponogeton. I have a light that's on for four hours a day (any longer and the algae comes back) at maximum brightness. I have a colony of maybe 30-40 cherry shrimp, most of them babies.

However, the rotalas are always scraggly, the carpet never really grew, and the only plants that seem well-adjusted are the bacopas and the aponogeton. How do people get such lush plants 😭 is it just fertilizer (i haven't used any so far)??
