Swam with feral plecos in Florida springs

18 inches is an underestimate of their natural size. It made me realize almost every common pleco you’ve ever seen in an aquarium is stunted and malnourished to some degree. These things have heads the size of my hand and are the length and girth of my lower leg. Their poops are the circumference of pencils at that size and almost no home aquarium can sustain that kind of bio load.

2026 center console obstructs knee

I’ve seen a few posts about this where people inserted a stick on cushion or wrapped the protruding plastic piece in upholstery. Is anyone else frustrated with the design of this console and has anyone found a better solution? I’m thinking of pulling this thing off and 3D printing something else that goes in the same spot but is flat and flush.

I had a 23 prime and didn’t have any issues with driving comfort for 36k miles. After 3k miles in the new one I’m constantly negotiating with the seat adjustment to find a more comfortable spot for my knee. The edge of the seat bolster is obstructed by the protruding hard plastic center console panel so it’s actually impossible to use the full width of the seat without your leg running into the console. That’s just an egregious design mistake on Toyota’s part. They’re usually the brand that just works.

Cherax wagenknechtae

I can’t get a good photo of this guy as I’ve hardly ever seen him out and about, but I have a huge male with claws the size of my thumbs.

These are sold as the “snakeskin tricolor” and kind of look like Cherax pulcher but are much more dark purple through the body and arm.

Does anyone have experience keeping these guys? Mine doesn’t seem interested in eating leafy plants but he did dig up my tiger lotus bulb and eat it while leaving the leaves. I’m thinking blanched tubers or water chestnuts might make him happy if they’re root foragers in the wild.

Truth in advertising?

This is meant to be an aquarium stand and the Amazon listing claims the steel frame supports 750 pounds on the top shelf and another 600 on the bottom. A 40 breeder is well short of that weight but I can’t help feeling anxiety about how this will hold up over time.

Does my betta look healthy to you?

I threw in a cube of frozen bloodworms for the whole tank a couple days ago (I have 2 plecos in here as well) and I think he stuffed himself because he’s been resting on the floor a lot recently. His belly doesn’t look as big today and I’m going to continue fasting him.

What is this washed out tail section on my rainbow fish?

I can’t get focus on this guy but I’ve had my new batch of rainbow fish die one at a time every day or so and this is the first time I can see one develop some kind of symptoms. There’s a washed out section of its tail and it looks like it’s having trouble moving it and it is tilting head towards the surface. It almost looks like neon tetra disease but these guys are pseudomagils.

Does anyone know what this is? I’ve pulled this fish out of the tank in case it is contagious. It is not fungus, there is no fuzz or growth on the tail section, just an obvious loss of color and stiffness / paralysis.

Feeding time

l75 and a super red bristlenose enjoying a snack

The L75 was probably the size of that bristlenose when I got it, but I’ve had it for close to a decade at this point and it’s only like 6 or 7 inches. Do I need to feed it more than one wafer every day?
