New from Montreal here, are the tinted plate dimmers just normal in Ottawa?

Moved to Ottawa not too long ago (Jan) and it's been great.

I keep seeing cars with those smoked/tinted covers over the plate or the dimmer setups that make the plate basically unreadable.

Where I come from the cops would absolutely nail you for this. Instant pull-over.

When I actually asked at ServiceOntario, I got told nothing is supposed to go on the plate at all even a clear cover. So as far as I can tell it's just not allowed, full stop.

So, genuine questions. Is enforcement basically non-existent here? Do the cops just not care? Or is there some loophole I'm not aware of that has half the city comfortable rolling around with a blacked-out plate?

Not trying to start anything, just genuinely puzzled coming from somewhere this would not fly.

Best dog cover for the Tesla Model Y Juniper back seat?

Picked up my 2026 Model Y Premium AWD and want to sort out a dog setup for the back.

My dog is tiny, small Maltese but I want something that covers the rear seats and the door cards too, ideally with a mesh net so he can see forward but not climb up front.

So far I've been looking at the Tesla OEM Pet Liner since it's one purchase and fits the Juniper for sure but it looks weirdly....velvet? Like it feels like someone who does NOT OWN dogs designed it. That's crazy cleaning maintenance.

The iBuddy off Amazon since it's waterproof and a lot cheaper is a bit tempting but it doesn't cover the top of the doors.

Anyone running anything on a Juniper?

Mainly care about easy install and removing and easy cleaning. BIFL and durability are second because it's an 8lbs dog.

Open to other brands if there's something better I'm missing. Looked at 4Knines (looked a bit too heavy duty?), Plush Paws (looked alright), Owleys, Lassie and Tesery.

Thanks!

Alternatives for Trakt?

Despite paying for VIP, it seems Trakt is unhappy that I have big libraries and decided to limit collections down to 100K.

If I don't delete my collections above this, they lock my account even if I'm actively paying for what they once advertised as "unlimited".

Any alternatives?

After 68 days of waiting, I finally got my Delivery Date

Ordered Date: April 6th 2026

God I hope it's not dented...

Kind of crazy to think that it takes Americans 3-4 days to get their Tesla and we're sitting here at 2 months+

Insurance Tesla Model Y Premium 2026 Quotes?

So. Insurance is damn expensive. I knew that. But never thought it would be this high with a clean record? Wtf?

CAA quoted me 318$/month.
Aviva quoted me 318$/month
Wawanesa 411$/month
Intact 420$/month
Gore Mutual is 426$/month
Pem Bridge is 449$/month

What the actual fuck?

33 year old, 10 year+ record clean, in Ottawa. Last speeding ticket was when I was 19.

How the hell is this happening? I thought I'd probably eat 200-220$/month not 315$+.
That's insane.

Anyone got a good insurance broker?
I can't believe my insurance is 1/3rd of my monthly financing cost.

Order disappeared exactly as I got my VIN assigned?

Is this... normal? I understand what a 400 is.

I guess I'm a bit scared that the guy that programmed the website is also the guy that programs FSD.

Edit: It's back. I guess just REALLY REALLY bad timing.

Beware of LawnMowerMan (Barrhaven Lawncare)

Writing this so the next Barrhaven person Googling "Lawn cutting/landscaping" is warned about this.

I hired LawnMowerMan / JJ (Josh Branker, lawnmowerman.ca) last week for a one-time lawn cleanup. He texted me after I submitted a quote request Wednesday night, sent a Jobber invoice the next morning, told me to pay upfront before he would swing by and promised the job would be done "today or tomorrow." I paid in full Thursday morning. Nothing too suspect to me I've had this before.

He never showed up. I call Friday, he says the truck broke down.

Saturday he said he was "back on track" and there is no problem. Saturday came and went.

I called, he apologized, said he'd do it tomorrow for sure guaranteed cross his heart.

Sunday passed too we're now Monday.

I call again, this time I hit the voicemail and I tell him that I want a refund if he can't come by tomorrow. Josh all of a sudden takes a fairly aggressive tone and tells me that his truck got into a crash this time. I guess the story changed, or after the truck got totaled and he fixed it, it now got into a car crash. Who knows?

Josh's mask all of a sudden dropped. No more "Oh sorry so sorry, I can come tomorrow sir". Now it's Josh's moment of glory and it's time to call me a "Little bitch that wasted his time". I told him I'll file a police report if I get no refund. He starts laughing saying that will never do anything (not completely wrong but I'll still leave a paper trail) and that the money is gone and that he "already used it". Ok.

So here I am posting this here so hopefully Google's Search Algorithm and the AI bots crawling the web see this story. Because if I ever see my 120$+tax it will be probably years.

But at least I'll save someone else from giving that scammer money. And that's totally worth it for me.

What threw me off going in was the Jobber invoicing software (looks professional because Jobber is legit, but anyone can sign up I get it), the website (looks somewhat legit) and the Google reviews (look fine on a fast skim).

Sadly the BBB profile gets buried in search. Doesn't have enough SEO I guess. His BBB profile shows 2 unanswered complaints from November 2023 and both follow the exact playbook I just got. One customer paid $565 upfront for a 10-cut season package, got 6 of 10 cuts, then got a text in September saying operations were suspended due to "financial challenges including unexpected equipment repairs and maintenance costs." Refunds were not available. The second complainant: required upfront payment, stopped service after August, refused refunds for September and October. Both complaints still unanswered 2.5 years later. BBB rating D-.

So it's not like the business is a ghost service or anything but he clearly has a pattern of business. "Money is gone woups, can't refund you."

https://www.bbb.org/ca/on/nepean/profile/lawn-maintenance/lawn-mower-man-0117-226457/complaints

I am fine financially so this is more annoying than damaging. It was an Interac transaction so no way I can get it back. Probably small claims after even if it takes years.

He is right about one thing he said on the call. Getting my money back will probably take years. Fine. At least more people will know this story.

EDIT:

I just wanted to say that I get that in hindsight I screwed up by paying upfront. I did it with other landscaping companies in Quebec and they came for years. I was also in a hurry juggling driving my gf to the airport and didn't think.

So excuses aside, yeah, I did screw up.

I'm in a very privileged position where 120$+tax is something I can financially tank (begrudgingly).

The point of this thread is to warn others about this.

I'll be leaving a BBB Complaint and a Google Review too.

PPF on a new Juniper in Ottawa, is front only enough or do I need the full wrap?

Will most likely be picking up my Model Y Juniper in a 2-3 weeks and I'm staring down the PPF question before I put real km on it.

I've read enough to know Tesla paint is noticeably thinner than the industry average and verified that with a few sources. My old Toyota basically shrugs off everything but I'm not expecting the same here regardless of how disappointing as it is for a 70k car purchase..

Anyways, winter and spring in Ottawa are not kind. Like it can get rough. Sand, salt and gravel hitting the car can get common on some highways or high traffic boulevards.

The price gap is what's bugging me. Full wrap quotes are sitting around 6k which is rough for just a plastic layer on the car ngl. Front package (bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors) is more like 1.5 to 2k which I can more easily stomach.

What I can't get a straight answer on is how visible the cut line ends up being on Stealth Grey. Does it disappear or does it scream PPF every time you walk up to the car? Like is it noticeable that only the front of the car was done? And how does it "show" over the years?

Also curious what northeast owners are actually seeing on their Junipers after a winter. Are the lower doors and rockers getting chewed up by salt and stone chips or is this overblown?

I know some of the Fresno Teslas essentially looked like Fallout 3 cars after a few winters.

For fellow Ottawa folks, I got quotes from 6 or 7 shops and ended up going with Goldwing Autocare based on the research. Posting that here in case it saves someone else the legwork.

And did some of you decide to pass on the PPF and just try to "fix the paint" yourselves? I saw they sell some at Jowua. Unsure how good it is.

To those buying an LG 39GX950B, how do you even drive that 5K Resolution?

5K seems incredibly stressful to try to play at acceptable FPS. I have a 9800x3D with 128GB of RAM and a 5090 RTX and some games don't play above 100 on a 1440p (thank you UE5).
2K feels like it would be way too blurry on 39 inches.

Putting it at 3800x1600 doesn't feel like a good solution as it's not a clean transition of pixel density either.

So do you all just pay 2 grand for 2K at 39 inches or are you all basically putting on DLSS Ultra Performance in every game at 5K? Or do you all just replay older games?

Genuinely confused
