No idea on what I'm doing

So i have two recorded examples, one is with the Quad the other with the misha plugin through the scarlet. Quad sounds better I know that, yes I should've probably played the same song for both but you can tell theres clear audio superiority with the quad. But I KNOW for a fact I can get plugins to sound much cleaner than this but I'm lost on how. I barely did any tweaking with the quad but with the plugins it's the complete opposite. It's driving me crazy especially since I'm about to sell my QC. Im aware the QC is more powerful but I know I can get the plugins to not sound harsh, so please give any tips you have.

What should I get second hand?

Basically all I want to know is what axe model should I be looking at preferably used with a budget or 8-900. I've seen a lot of stuff on gc used but I'm not too sure about the differences between models besides supports and updates, not so much how they hold up in 2026 and what problems do they have or can I potentially run into? Thanks in advance.

M80M vs Just swapping

So I have an RG8 I just got not too long ago, 27" scale and I've been wanting to put Lundgren's in them, but then I realized I can just get the M80M which already has them plus its a longer scale, tonality wise how much of a difference do you guys think it would be? Im aware scale length is pretty important especially with an almost 2 and half inch difference here, what would you guys do? This is probably important to mention but I'm likely going to swap the nut and potentially the bridge if I do get the M80M, I don't change tunings frequently on my current 8 but if I want to I dont want it to be a pain.

Question for those who swapped pickups

So I just bought the white RG8 and I plan on swapping the pickups for either lundgren or fishman opencore and wanted to know how smoothly or not so smoothly it will go. I ask because I had an rg not so long ago and tried swapping to mark's alpha and omegas and they just didn't work. I had a luthier and a friend of mine look at it and nobody knew why the output was so low and it ended up just not even outputting anything one day. I swapped them back to the old pickups and it worked just fine. Now I consider it one bad experience since many swap without issues but I wanted to ask anyways.

Scale length and tuning questions.

A 30inch scale is recommended for Drop E or lower for like a 6 string baritone but a 27-28inch scale 8 or 7 string can also do drop E or even lower. Like erra is in drop D# on 7s and I know those arent 30inch scales so like how is this possible 😭. I genuinely feel stupid but I HAD to ask this question. One of my few ideas was that the number of strings makes a difference? Like certain strings you dont have to retune to accommodate for a tuning but thats all I got.

Probably a stupid question but I must ask

So much earlier I asked about Baritone options out there with a 30" scale length and humbuckers but I just found out about the Gretch G5260 which is a 29.75. I'm looking to pull the trigger but I wanna ask how much of a difference is the extra .25? For context I want to tune from E like that weird drop E loathe plays in, all the way down to like drop double Bb which is what some of that new periphery is in.

Question bout the noise

I have summed it up to being partially (maybe mostly technique) but I had this issue sometimes pre quad cortex and I know it's not a problem with neural or anything I just need help with my EQ. I have this unwanted string noise regardless of how I play at first I thought I was brushing the other strings but even after just playing slowly or lifting my hand there is this strange like ringing? sound regardless of what I do. Again I DO feel like this could be partially technique but I'm not entirely sure, I'm also a bit clueless about how I should be dialing my tones which is why I'm showing what my settings are, they're probably poop so if you guys have better ideas please share, im begging. (Also someone give me a quick rundown on comp pedals, that's like the only thing I really don't know how to use properly, I just know it's important to my targeted sound)

Option Paralysis

Spent an hour last night with the quad and I won't be able to use it again til later after work but bro I'm in a genuine state of not knowing what to do. I decided to skip out on watching videos until I messed around enough and like I'm genuinely confused LOL. I understand the color coding for the blocks that was probably the easiest part. But now that I have signal chain control and a billion amp captures, pedals, etc I don't even know what to do. But I can say it is a beautiful piece of equipment, feels better than just using Neural's plugins. But if you guys have any tips or videos I should watch I'm all ears, (also I'd like more djent focused tones if that matters) thanks.

NGDDDD

Cords are out of place cause I lowkey opened this up at work, BUT after long contemplation between this and an AxeFX this is what won. Posted in another sub about the two and honestly still looking to own some sort of fractal gear in the future but for now I'm beyond satisfied with this.

Hair ties

So when my hair got some length, I decided to tie it up one day, and every now and then I'll do it but I wanna know if there are hair ties out there I should be using, like a specific material. I been usin my mom's scrunchies like those cirlce ties ykwim? I think I heard those aren't good for your hair but idk, what do yall use?

Genuine Confusion

So I love my plugins, tones sound great but there is something that confuses me greatly. Whenever I play through analog gear, whether it's tubes or solid state pinch harmonics ring clearly and are much easier for to pull off while having sustain. Maybe I'm REALLY stupid and I just don't know what I'm doing fully but when it comes to the plugins they are much weaker and are a lot harder to pull off. And I feel or at least know it's gotta be user error or something cause everyone else I see use these same plugins pull them off pretty easily lol so like if you guys have any ideas please share them.

I maybe obsessed

I mean Holcomb the goat am I right or am I right. And genuinely the only other guitar I own is an Ibanez RG... that I do not use. These guitars have ruined others for me

Quad Questions

SO, I have been more and more convinced to buy a quad recently but I have some questions first. I assume this first one is a yes but I gotta ask anyways, does the QC sound any better than just using Neural plugins? I already use them and I'm definitely somewhat satisfied but I like that the QC just has more control over the sound which is why I'm thinking about it. Next question is if there is a fizz problem with it, now with plugins I've kinda figured out how to get rid of it recently but I feel like I sacrifice too much output for it and it becomes really dry. Now I could just be a rookie at this digital eq stuff lol but I've always found dialing a tone with analog stuff easier (even though I have none anymore). Fizz thing is probably user error but I just wanted to ask anyways, last question is that I don't REALLY like wearing headphones so I play through studio monitors which I think may cause some fizz but the tone can sound "strangled" at times, is it worth upgrading them and if so to what? What changes?

QC vs AxeFx what do I get first

So as the title suggests, at some point I will own both but I wanna know what you guys think is best to get first. I asked in another sub and honestly don't know how I didn't ask here first, it's quite literally the genre I'm using it for. I've watched many vids and honestly I've been leaning towards AxeFx BUT I've been told by many AxeFx is or can be confusing and you spend more time dialing in tones than you would with a quad. QC's sound AMAZING tho especially for how easy it is to use apparently and it's actually really difficult to choose one or the other. So, what so you guys think? EDIT (Forgot to mention I have experience with Neural DSP, tis my primary sound)

QC or AxeFX

I'm sure it's been asked before and I could simply watch some vids but on top of that I'd like to ask myself. I know a bunch of yall here play guitar as well so I gotta ask. Should I invest in the QC or an AxeFx? I'm sort of aware of some of the pros and cons of both but there aren't too many tbh. I'm a bit of a tonechaser, I LOVE early periphery tones but I'm also a big fan of the tones people are dialing in today with the QC's. (Just to add on at some point I'll own both so this is a more of a what do I get first kinda question)

NGD

I was asking about 8 strings earlier so to anyone that saw it, it's still on the list but I sold my only 7 and was like I still need one 😭. This pic is at my job just before I restrung it, plays beautifully.

u/SonYoku2 — 2 months ago

Lost on what to do

You guys ever have a guitar that plays perfectly, like objectively it looks nice, feels nice but you don't play it over anything else? Like I have no reason to sell it, its such a great guitar but there are many others out there that just in a sense speak to me more? I think part of why I dont resonate much with it anymore because I'm starting to believe I bought it a little impulsively and after looking around and seeing other stuff I just felt like those fit me more I guess. Maybe its a phase.

Baritones

Alright so I asked earlier about 8 strings and that's still my next purchase. BUT I've been curious abour baritones as well, wouldn't be now but I'm having a hard time finding 30 inch scale baritones. I already know of the Bass VI but I kinda just don't like how it looks. What else is out there?

First 8

Not sure on what to get, wildly different price options cause I'm an employee and my discount is actually pretty good on this stuff, john browne would've been a no brainer but I kinda like having inlays. Also open to other options these are just the three I liked so far

Subhuman

Could be trippin but like the first 30 seconds of Subhuman reminded me of Its Yours by loathe. In a good way honestly it sort of felt like a loathe song, loved it
