What 90% density looks like versus on head

It's actually kinda crazy how this amount of hair, still looks a tad too thick on the head. I guess they weren't kidding about how much hair you actually lose before you start noticing that you're balding, or how much thinning impacts the illusion of hair.

First time with a full lace system experience

I'm on my 3rd system since I started this. My first was a poly with French lace front, my 2nd one too (which is still fresh), and I decided to get a 90% Swiss lace system just to see what it looks like.

On a whim decided to cut in the Swiss lace between installs just to give my friend some cutting experience. I pay a lot less for systems than the usual so I didn't care if it got ruined.

I don't know if I can go back after this.

  • I don't find hybrids cumbersome, but now I truly cannot feel I have anything on my head except for thick hair. It just feels so damn light and fresh it's unbelievable.
  • Itching has been reduced by 90%. And I can easily scratch spots if I do get an itch.
  • I sweat a lot so after day 3-4 the poly becomes very uncomfortable and starts to lift. None of that issue with this.
  • For some reason the system doesn't become hard like a birds nest after sleeping on it. I don't even wear a silk bonnet and wake up and it just feels like normal hair
  • The realism is very good. I always had decent luck with this but with this one I'm just putting on Signature tape all around and it looks quite natural. I've had people check it out, because I can see imperfections, but no one else seems to.
  • I don't feel as nervous about someone running their hair through my scalp. Unless there's edge not fully adhered there's almost no way to feel there's something on here.

Now I'm sure the downsides will show up eventually. I guess lifespan will generally be 2 months. I'm not sure how the cleanup will go, but I never had issues with tape and lace front, glue on the other hand is a bitch to deal with and doesn't last more than a day for me.

Yeasty notes in vodka

Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice on a persistent off-flavor.

I made a sugar wash with EC-1118, which fermented hard and hit around 12% ABV. I used a two-part clearing agent and cold-crashed before siphoning, but the wash wasn't fully crystal clear and may have still had some fine suspended yeast in it.

I ran a stripping run on an Air Still Pro, diluted the low wines, then did two separate spirit runs (so three distillations total). I made conservative cuts and kept only the cleaner middle portion.

Even so, someone tasting it blind (no info on how it was made) immediately picked up a yeasty/fermented note right at the start of the sip. So it seems like a real, detectable flavor. It's not a typical tails/fusel flavor, it hits early rather than lingering, and it's making the vodka taste less clean overall despite all the redistillation.

A few questions:

  • Can suspended yeast or sediment in the original wash really produce a flavor that survives a strip and two spirit runs? Or does this point to yeast scorching/smearing during the first run, effectively contaminating all the low wines from that point on?

Other possible causes I'm considering:

  • Wash not clear enough pre-distillation
  • Fermentation odors absorbed into my plastic fermenter
  • Contamination somewhere in the still or collection equipment
  • Extra smearing due to the small-batch Air Still design
  • Some other fermentation byproduct that just mimics a "yeasty" taste

Appreciate any insight, thanks!

Switching benzos to diazepam

Hey all.

Long story short, I ended up on a daily dosage of 0.5mg clonazepam, every morning, and 2.5mg of lorazepam split into two dosages.

My psychiatrist believes I need to switch to diazepam, and then taper off from those.

I wonder if anyone here can share an experience about how to go about this. Like, what's the first thing I should do? Do I change the clonazepam first? I can't seem to find a dosage guide as these aren't 1:1, one says 0.5mg is equal to 5mg of diazpam, while another says 10mg. The lorazepam is between 10 and 20mg based on the source.

Tips for removing tape from poly?

This is the most tedious part of owning a system. I use Walker Signature and none of the products I've tried make it easy to get off cleanly: C-22, Rapid Release, Action, Super Solv, alcohol.

I can easily clean all the glue off the top layer, but it's getting under the tape that's extremely difficult. I have to pick it off with my nails, and often the tape will snap, and I have to start again. The hold is so strong that I've ripped the poly side in 2 places tearing it off. There must be some better way to do this

First vodka batch with Air Still Pro, massive failure

Hey all, just wanted to share my experience as a complete beginner, and my disappointing first spirit run.

I made a 25L batch with dextrose, EC-1118, and some generic yeast nutrient. SG was around 1.074.

Things were going okay at first, but the wash stalled for over a week. I realised the pH was too low, so I added bicarb soda to get it going again. It then went through another week of slow fermentation before stalling again. I added more bicarb and re-pitched. Finally got it down to 0.990 after about a month.

I let the wash “settle” for about 2 weeks. Once the Air Still arrived, I processed all my low wines. I had about 6 litres of clear ~40–45% ABV. I used 1 litre of that as a sacrificial run to clean out the new still, and I lost about 800ml of low wines because my alcometer broke. I put the remainder in the still to the exact fill line.

This was my first time making cuts. I found out pretty quickly what was bad and what was passable, but knowing the difference between passable and actually good was harder than I expected. I collected 12 jars at around 100–200ml each. Total collected was about 1.35L of spirit at 90% ABV before the still shut itself down.

I let the jars sit overnight, then obsessively tasted, smelled, and mixed all the jars. I figured out tails are easier to identify if I rub a bit between my hands and smell it — yep, there’s the wet dog. The heads were more astringent and had odd scents. The “heart” just tasted like sweet ethanol. I decided to be extra critical and ended up with about 550ml of hearts and 800ml of feints. That made around 1.5L of 40% ABV vodka.

It’s been 3 days now. I gave it a taste, and it’s terrible. Faint hint of alkaline and yeastiness, slightly louche/cloudy appearance, and the alcohol hits like a truck. Not smooth or pleasant at all. I have the option of running it through a carbon filter, but I’m not sure it’s even worth it.

For my next run, I’m hoping to get better results. This is what I’ll adjust:

  • Start at a lower SG
  • Use better nutrients: Fermaid AT and Go-Ferm
  • Use oyster shells in a diffusible canister to buffer pH
  • Use a slightly better still, the Polyphoenix, with a slightly bigger volume and SPP packing
  • Use bentonite clay to fully clear the wash and avoid any yeast scents
  • Do a full reset clean between stripping runs and the final spirit run to avoid contamination

So far, the next ferment is going smoothly at a healthy pH and should be done in about a week.

I don’t know how I’ll go with the cuts. That process is honestly pretty daunting, but I guess I have to learn somehow. Happy to take on any tips anyone can offer.

How tight should the nipples be?

Hey all. I know they come with a spanner but I just twisted it in by hand. I did my first spirit run at 4L, and it took damn near 9-10 hours to get going. I loosened up the nipple a bit and it flowed much better.

There's no info I can find about this online.

The product that revives dead hair for me

Just wanted to share this, and hope to get some advice from others.

My hair is quite low quality. After about 2-3 days of wear, it becomes hard and stiff, like rope. Without water it becomes like a hardened bird nest.

What works is when I take it off, and apply this:

  • Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Liquid 5-minute mask 250ml

I leave it for about 10 minutes and wash it out. The hair then becomes like new. Soft, pliable, natural.

But, this effect lasts for 2-3 days, when it slowly returns back to a dry state. I haven't figured out how to maintain it while on my head. This is what I've tried:

  • Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In Treatment 150ml

Provides some support but only lasts a few hours.

  • All Soft Argan 6 Oil (solo or mixed with above), and normal argan oil

This was a huge waste of money for me. It makes the hair feel worse if anything. I do not believe in argan oil.

  • KMS MOISTREPAIR Leave In Conditioner 150ml

Another waste of money. Does nothing that normal water cannot.

Perhaps my hair is just too low quality to stay hydrated. But I'm open to see what works for others. All of the above products have silicone, which I believe is a must for hair systems.

It's really fucking awesome to have hair.

Just wanted to share my story as someone who lurked this sub for over 2 years before taking the dive.

This was my hair progression, from full hair, to rapid loss, to the breaking point before I got the system:

https://imgur.com/a/Aa0Zo3y

Eight years of it. Countless nightmares about being bald. Constantly checking reflections. Worrying how it looks when I sweat, watching every product melt away by midday.

Tried everything: supplements, natural DHT blockers, nizoral, minoxidil, microneedling. Refused finasteride; didn't see the risk worth it for what's usually a mediocre result. Ruled out transplants too: drug maintenance, and they always look like doll hair to me.

So I figured, why not give this a try. Hate it, take it off, shave my head, go back to where I started. Went to a random salon. Within an hour I had a full head of hair.

It's been 3 months. I still find it hard to believe when I look in the mirror. Confidence is up. Dating life has improved. I look younger. Crazy what a difference ~100 grams of hair can make. Nothing but positive feedback and not a single person has clocked it, including intimate partners.

The years of research weren't wasted. But you really learn once you just get on with it. Nobody researches tape removal or adhesive options when they're just curious. That happens when you're wearing one. And it didn't take long to get things down pat. Twenty minutes now, cleaning and application. It's like a skincare routine.

The system isn't even the best, and I've been rough with it the way beginners are. Still looks presentable. I already have 2 new systems lined up: much higher quality, much more realistic hairlines.

At this point I can't see myself going back. Barely any downsides after the initial investment. All the neurosis about imperfections, about it coming off just vanished over the weeks. It blows my mind that anyone would suffer years of self-esteem issues and failed experiments instead of just taking this route.

What is everyone gonna watch after the season ends?

Knowing Apple, it will be a good 2-3 year wait before we get a new season, even if already confirmed.

What other shows are currently doing it for you? I'm not too impressed by a lot of offerings. I watch From, which I enjoyed a lot more in the earlier seasons, and will see how that mystery plays out.

Might be my favorite show of the year

So I heard about this show from the From fanbase, since that show had a two-week hiatus and, lately, hasn't really been hitting the mark for me.

I'll admit I wasn't completely hooked at first. But by episode four, something clicked. I realised that each episode explores a different horror trope while still contributing to the larger mystery surrounding the town. What impressed me most was how seamlessly it blends horror and comedy without undermining either. Combined with the cinematography, atmosphere, and genuinely intriguing plotline, I realized I was watching something special and genuinely unique.

I also appreciated that the characters aren't instantly lovable. They feel layered and take time to grow on you. Patricia is probably the best example. I didn't think much of her at first, but she quickly became my favourite character as the season progressed.

I ended up rewatching the show almost immediately and have already managed to get 2 other people hooked on it.

I can't wait to see what kind of horror story or theme the next episode decides to explore.

Walker Tape Mity-Tite experience

So I'm 2 months into my first HS. I've figured out the perimeter, Signature Walker Tape, easy to apply and lasts as long as I need it to. I generally use Max Sport Hold all over.

Have yet to figure out glue for the lace front. For me, Ghost Bond is trash. Doesn't matter which one. None last more than a day before the front curls up. It also goes white quite easily. I hate this brand.

Ultra Hold holds quite well, but is very difficult to apply. I've tried mixing it with alcohol and it helps, but if it's even a bit inconsistent, you get areas not fully adhering.

Mity-Tite so far has help up quite well. I'm on day 3 with this one. It's meant to be a daily wear, but I feel like a few layers it feels a lot like Ultra Hold without the pain of application. You can even just use the little brush inside of it without much issue.

Next system definitely trying the full tape route. Sadly this one is way too irregular at the front to apply any contour.

Advice on hair dye choice, blond to dark brown

I have a processed blonde hair system I'd like to bring down to a dark brown, something close to the photo attached. I'd rather avoid box dye and use Redken if possible, ideally Shades EQ or something low damage.

Because the hair is already processed blonde, I'm a bit worried about it going muddy, greenish, or patchy. Would I need to fill it first with a warm or copper tone before going dark? If so, any idea what Shades EQ formulas might work for the fill and final colour?

Just after a natural dark brown, nothing too red or dark. Any tips on processing time, strand testing, or avoiding staining the lace base would be great!

30s/OCE/PC - Washed GM looking for Overwatch duos

Hey all,

Was a regular player a while back, peaked Top 500 on tank, GM on DPS, Masters on support. Took a year+ off and just got back, currently sitting in Plat across all roles and trying to climb again.

Looking for a duo or two who are chill but still want to actually win. Voice comms preferred but not required. Any role welcome.

About me: fully remote worker in the medical cannabis industry, based in Melbourne, 2 cats, way too many hobbies (ADHD tax). I'm on most evenings AEST.

Just wanted to share my experience.

Now, I'm not the shyest guy, so this experience might be different for someone who is lacking confidence. But I also am not the type to openly tell everyone I would wear a piece, my goal is to be undetectable.

Initially I only told my parents (mother is a hairdresser), and they both told me it's not worth it, waste of money, 'you'll get over it after a few weeks.'

  • Mother - Loved it more than I did. Convinced me to not cut it shorter. Helped me make a template and will help me order wholesale products.

  • Step father - heavily considering getting one himself

  • Father - Usually very critical and dismissive, looked amused, said 'you do look 5 years younger...'.

  • Brother - "I didn't even realize, I thought you got a better haircut, looks really good"

  • Friend 1 - "I would get one too if I didn't work in a dirty oil field all day"

  • Friend 2 - Had a hair transplant. "Man I'm really fucking jealous of your hair..."

  • Friend 3, 4, 5 - "Looks so real", not much reaction either way beyond that

I started dating a girl around the time I got it, haven't told her yet. But I joked about getting one in conversation and she said "well go for it, why not?", so doubt she would care, and actually the push I needed to make the appointment. Curious how long it takes her to figure it out.

Overall, I think if the people who know me best and least afraid to give criticism, I doubt some random person on the street would notice or care. I genuinely believe the only people who could 'clock' it (assuming a mediocre hairline, etc), would be people heavily into hair system research or wearers themselves, so that's nothing to be worried about.
