AIW for expecting my girlfriend to pay towards bills etc?

I’ve been with my girlfriend for a year and a half and we’re now talking about moving in together. She currently lives alone and rents whereas I own my home and pay a mortgage.  We agreed it would make more sense to move into my place as it’s bigger and it’s not rented.

I mentioned to my gf I’d expect her to pay something towards utilities and a small amount of money to go towards wear and tear of appliances etc. She asked if I was serious and I said yeah.  She argued she shouldn’t have to be paying me anything since I own the place.

I just pointed out my bills will go up and wear and tear of the property and appliances will be increased so it’s only fair she contributes something.

I pointed out it wouldn’t be a lot and would be probably less than half of what she paying now. I mentioned I’m happy to get it drawn up as a contract if she’d prefer but she just kept arguing she shouldn’t have to pay anything.

I just repeated what I’d already said and she accused me of taking advantage of her. I argued that’s what she was trying to do to me by expecting to live for free.

AIW for using a week of annual leave to play video games?

I have been with my gf for over 4 years. We live in the UK and I currently work full time and work has been pretty stressful for a couple of months as I started a new hobby. As a hobby I like to play video games to unwind. I mainly play single player games since I like a good story.

In September-october there are quite a few games coming out that I really want to play. I decided I would take 4-5 days leave to have a nice long weekend in October and enjoy playing them. I mentioned this to my gf and she said it would be a waste of leave since I get 10 days off over Christmas anyway.

I pointed out that I'd be busy for most of that since I'd be seeing family on Christmas day and boxing day, my gf and I have plans to go away for a couple of nights etc so while it will be a fun 10 days, it won't be relaxing.

She just repeated its a waste of leave especially if we're looking at a small holiday abroad in January-February time. I told her this won't affect that and I'll still have the leave. I told her it's my leave to use as I please and me taking a week off in October does not affect her at all. She just repeated that it's a week less that we'll be able to use for things for us both to do.

AIW for expecting birthday presents from my partner?

I’ve just had a big birthday for me and my girlfriend and we’re on holiday during my birthday. We go on holiday each year anyway, this place was just a bit further away than we usually go.

We both paid 50% of the cost of the trip so it’s not like it’s a birthday present or anything. When it came to my actual birthday my girlfriend mentioned she hadn’t actually gotten me anything since we’re on holiday so that’s for my birthday.

I pointed out the trip isn’t a birthday present since I had paid for myself. She just shrugged and said she’d still paid half of the cost so this was my birthday present.

I again just pointed out we go on holiday each year so it’s a bit shitty she hadn’t bothered to actually get me anything but she just called me ungrateful since we had the holiday.

AIW for expecting my girlfriend to attend a wedding with me?

One of my best friends is getting married. We have known each other since we were 6 years old. During Covid we lost touch due to him having no social media and he doesn’t live nearby.

We’ve been talking for the last year and a half and he’s getting married later in the year. He’s invited me and my partner. I’ve been with my gf for 4 years. She hasn’t met this friend but I’ve mentioned him to her.

When I mentioned the invite to her she said she wouldn’t be going. She said she doesn’t know anyone there so has no interest in going, I pointed out it’s for me and that I’ve done plenty of things with her friends and haven’t refused just because I don’t know them.

She ignored that and just said it’s weird to go somewhere where you haven’t met anyone but I just pointed out there will likely be plenty of plus ones who are the same and it’s not hard to just make conversation.

She told me to drop it and said I shipment be expecting her to go but I just asked what the point of us being in a relationship was if she’s refusing to do anything with me just because it’s not her friends.

She said I was overreacting and guilt tripping her and that I’m out of order.

AIO for expecting the gifts to be for both of us?

I’ve recently gotten engaged and have been with my partner for 5 years. Her family threw us an engagement party this weekend and when we got home and opened some of the cards there was money in most of them.

I mentioned it was generous of her family to give us so much and my gf mentioned planning on buying a few things she wants for the house with it. I pointed out it’s both of our names on the cards and the money should be going towards the wedding or things for both of us so we should be discuss what the money is being spent on.

She mentioned that it was her family that gave us it so the money is hers to choose and that she’s spending it on both of us since it’s things for the house but I disagreed since she was just choosing things she wants with no input from me.

I said the engagement party was for both of us and so are the cards and any gifts we’ve received. I pointed out it’s selfish of her to expect everything to just be for her.

She said I was trying to take advantage of her family’s generosity but I pointed out that’s exactly what she’s doing by just spending it on things she wants.

AIW for not turning off what I was watching on a flight?

I was on a flight to the US last week and it was my first transatlantic flight since I’m from the UK and all of my previous holiday have just been to Europe. Due to this it was the first time I had a screen to watch movies and tv shows etc.

I saw they had house of the dragon and it was a show I’ve been meaning to watch for a while so I started watching it. There were some violent scenes and sex scenes on the show.

A woman tapped me on the shoulder and said I should turn it off as her son can see my screen and it’s not appropriate for him. I pointed out all I’m doing is watching a show that’s available and it’s not up to everyone else to accommodate her son.

She again said her son shouldn’t have to see it but I just said she should keep her son occupied and focus on him instead of dictating what other people are allowed to watch.

She said I was out of line and shouldn’t get watching a show like that when there are kids nearby but I just repeated she doesn’t get to control what other people are watching.

AIW for giving my girlfriend an ultimatum?

My girlfriend and I have been to a festival the last two years. it’s more her thing but I’ve joined her in it. she mentioned going next yearI said I’ll be skipping it since it costs us over £700 each for the weekend id rather spend the money on other things next year.

She got annoyed and said we should still be able to go but I just said I wouldn’t be going. I said she can ask a friend to go instead .

Her friend said she’d go with her but my gf just said we should go as a four with her friend and her friends bf and told her friend I just needed more persuading.

I told my gf she needs to listen when i say no and it’s completely disrespectful to hear me say no and think it just means she needs to keep asking until I change my mind.

She just said we should still be looking at going to be festival but I told her to accept the word no and that it’s her looking forward to the festival not me and for next year I’d rather put the money towards something I want.

i pointed out I’ve explained clearly and repeatedly why I wouldn’t be going and she needs to listen. She just said she thinks it’ll be fun if the four of us go and I just said that we can look at it for a few years time but not next year. I told her again I’m not wanting to go every year.

Tickets went on sale this morning and she started looking mentioning we’ll need to try to get some. I asked if she listened to a single word I said. I told her I’m not going and if she doesn’t start listening then I’m done and we’re over because at this point its beyond a joke for her to completely disregard what she’s been told.

She said I wasn’t being fair but I just said she was acting spoiled and expecting to get everything she wants without listening to what I’m saying. She said I was harsh for giving her an ultimatum but I disagree.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to listen when I say no?

Next year my partner and I are looking at buying a house. Weve been saving for a few years and should have enough for a down payment for a mortgage next summer.

My partner doesn’t seem to accept that we’ll need to cut back on spending for a while when we’re looking at doing it since there will be other costs. We’ve been to a festival the last two years and she mentioned going next year. I said I’ll be skipping it since it costs us over £700 each for the weekend and that money should be going towards things we’ll need to pay when buying a house.

She got annoyed and said we should still be able to go but I just said I wouldn’t be going. I said she can ask a friend to go as long as she makes sure it doesn’t affect our plans.

Her friend said she’d go with her bad my gf just said we should go as a four and told her friend I just needed more persuading. I told my gf she needs to listen when o say no and it’s completely disrespectful to hear me say no and think it just means she needs to keep asking until I change my mind

AIW for telling my girlfriend to use her phone less?

I’ve started noticing that on an evening all my girlfriend will do is scroll social media and tik tok. When we I suggest doing something whether it’s go for a walk, watch a tv show, play on the switch etc she’ll say no,

Last night I told her we needed to talk. I said I think she’s on her phone too much and that it’s starting to get in the way on the relationship. I said it’s shit knowing she’d rather sit for hours scrolling tik tok than actually doing anything with me. I said it’s like she’s addicted and that things need to change.

She tried denying she’s on it much but I just pointed out that for months we won’t be doing anything together if we’re home for the evening because she’s busy scrolling social media.

She tried arguing it’s no different than me playing video games but I pointed out that if she suggests doing something while I’m playing, then the majority of the time I’ll say yes whereas she only says no when I ask.

I told her that I’d like us to start doing things together on an evening and that she needs to make more of an effort since I lm not going to stay on a relationship with someone who constantly chooses her phone over doing things together.

She called me harsh and said I wasn’t being fair but I just told her nothing I’ve said is incorrect and that it’s shot having a partner repeatedly turn down plans because they’d rather waste their life scrolling social media.

AITA for expecting my girlfriend to drive us over the weekend or compromise?

My girlfriend and I are going to a festival this weekend. We went last year and had a good time. It was my first time at a festival so didn’t really know what to expect so we pretty much did what my gf chose since it was more her type of music etc but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and they had a lot of good food and drinks available.

They had a large craft beer selection that you can’t get back home so it was nice to try new beers.

We didn’t camp, we drove in each day and stayed in a place my partners parents own that is nearby. My gf drove as I was drinking and she was just there for the music anyway so didn’t really want a drink. We planned to do the same this year.

Last night my gf mentioned she thinks I should be driving this year instead. I reminded her we agree she would drive since I’ll be driving and she doesn’t want to drink whereas a big reason I’m going is to try new beers etc.

She just said she changed her mind and  it should be me driving. I suggested we camp so then we wouldn’t have to worry about driving or mentioned alternating who drives but she refused both suggestions Ans said it should just be me driving.

I disagreed and pointed out again that the drink choices are literally one of the reasons I’m going so I’m not going to go and just not have anything to drink.

She called me unfair but I pointed out it’s her being unfair because she knows my reasons for going aren’t the same as hers.

AITA for wanting to watch a movie while at a music festival?

My girlfriend and I are going to a festival in a couple of weeks. It’s not really my thing but she enjoys it so I agreed to go with her. The festival has a cinema tent and it’s showing some good movies so I thought it would be good to check one out,

I suggested one and she refused as it was at the same time as an act she wanted to see. I suggested she goes to the act and I go to watch the film but she said she doesn’t want that.

I suggested another film but she said it was too late as we need to drive back to our room and the movie wouldn’t finish until 1am. I pointed out she needs to compromise somewhere and that the full weekend isn’t just about her.

She said it was a music festival so I should be focused on the music but I reminded her it was just her who enjoyed the music, I was only going for her so she should be willing to compromise with me.

She refused and said I shouldn’t be leaving her alone while I go and watch a movie but I told her she’s free to join me.

My fiancé [27f] is arguing I [29m] shouldn’t be using the shared account to buy a new tv

My fiance and I have bought a house and we have a shared account for housing expenses. We both pay into it each month.

She’s used it for things such as buying new things for the kitchen, such as replacing the fridge freezer despite the old one still working, she’s gotten a new bedside cabinet, a new make up desk and a few decorative bits.

Our tv is a few years old now and I was thinking about upgrading. There’s more than enough in the shared account and would still have a lot left over. I mentioned this to my gf and she said I shouldn’t be using the shared account for it since it’s just something I want and not a need.

I pointed out most of the things she’s used the account for were wants and if you total everything she’s bought, it’ll come to around the same price as the tv or even slightly more,

She said again I shouldn’t be using the shared account. I tried arguing a compromise of using half from the shared account and half from my savings but she still said no.

I told her it’s meant to be a shared account and she’s acting like it’s solely her money. I said I’m entitled to use the account just as much as she is but she argued I was being unreasonable,

Does anyone have any advice on how best to approach this if have any other views on it?

tldr my girlfriend is arguing I shouldn’t be using the shared account to buy a new tv despite her using it regularly to buy things she wants.

My girlfriend (27f) called me (29m) disrespectful for not cancelling plans to go for drinks with a female friend

I’m 29 and from the ages of 20-25 I had a friendship group that I used to meet up with regularly. We’d go out a few times a month. There was 5 of us, 2 women and 3 men. Outside of meeting as a group I used to talk more to one of the men, let’s call him Will and one of the women, let’s call her Sophie.

In recent years we’ve drifted apart, some have had kids and don’t really meet up anyone, others have moved away so we’re not really in touch. Will doesn’t really talk to any of us anymore and Sophie moved away a few years ago.

I’ve been with my girlfriend for 3 years and at the weekend we were out shopping and we bumped into Sophie. I introduced her to my gf and she mentioned she moved back a couple of weeks ago. She said it would be good to catch up and invited my gf and I put for drinks. I said it sounds good and agreed.

When we got home my gf said she wouldn’t be going and also said it was disrespectful for me to go drinking with another woman on my own. I pointed out the only reason we’ll be on our own is because she’s refusing to do and said she can’t expect me to cancel plans just because she doesn’t want to go.

She again said I was being disrespectful and said I should be cancelling but I refused. She said I was being unreasonable and that I wasn’t asking for much.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to approach this or have any other views on it?
