Help - How do I schedule an interview even though I just started at another role?

Hello, just started a role locally - it's nice but not a fit. But it's scheduled in regular business hours.

After I accepted, I heard back from a role I was interested in! But how do I schedule in the interview when I just started this role? Take a sick day this early on?

I feel like I'm going insane - accepted a job offer thst is dead end and now Im scared I'll get stuck.

This id a bit a mix of money and family. I returned to the US about 4.5 months ago, and i was initially applying to roles that interested me. They were taking their sweet time getting back. Eventually my mom turned to me and said i needed to get a job soon.

So i changed tactics and looked for survival roles. Got one offered to me, the same day. I can tell they are disorganized, but it'll pay my bills and refill my emergency fund.

I was explaining to my mom that ill probably have to stay at this job for a year so i dont look flaky and that made my mom concerned that I'll get stuck at this job like the job before i went abroad.

I wanted to yell at her. You can't put a timeline on me getting a job and then get mad when the options within that timeline suck and are deadend. I dont want to look like a job hopper either. The next job i have in the US is the one that will be on my resume.....

I am so tired. All of it feels wrong and i cant sleep.

Warning to those returning home from a Working Holiday job and are looking for work - Make it absolutely clear that you are a citizen of your country.

I've been struggling to find work back in my home country (USA) for a few months, including simple entry level stuff. I just finished working in New Zealand.

I finally got some interviews this week and in one of them, the interviewer said they weren't sure if I was a New Zealand citizen or a US citizen. I got that interview because technically the job allowed for seasonal workers on J-1 visas.

So that was 80ish applications that were probably thrown in the trash. I thought that my many years of work in the USA would make it clear, but it obviously didn't. I had to spell it out. Even when I put it on cover letters it wasn't enough.

I've now put a section on my resume that says I returned to my home in United States after spending a year on a working holiday.

This may be more common for Americans, but still, make it clear everyone! Don't be like me!

Any kiwis in the area that want to talk about their home?

Im from Ventura, but I remember getting homesick while i was away and didnt have anyone to talk to about my home. When people recognized my city's name it was electric.

I was in New Zealand for a year, and if there is anyone missing home that wants someone to talk to about it, I am an interested ear.

Putting it out there. Some people don't miss home, but some do, and I wish someone would listen about my home who had been there.

Cheers.

Fatigue and stress is still a trigger after all these years - beware for the newly clean

I'm exhausted and struggling in other areas. It's more manageable with more energy, but I've run out, and I have self harm thoughts. I normally don't when I have energy. A good reminder that protecting my energy will also protect myself physically.

Off to bed before I act, because if I act on thoughts, it will just get harder to ignore them in the future.

Hope everyone will protect themselves as best as they can.

I am just so tired of indecision. I am tired of this place. I am tired of not knowing the best route. And I am just. fucking. tired.

It's stressing me out, seeing my mom distressed, and I feel like I am adding to their problems

It's been a rough one. I am applying for jobs. Not sure I am doing a good job. I returned to the country a few months ago and am currently at my parents' place.

My mom looks so stressed, and I think it has to do with money and the house. I want to comfort her, but i don't know what to do. Right now I am telling myself that finding any job and removing myself as a factor is the best course of action, but I'd like to help her in the short term too.

Edit: I just offered to pay up to $200 so we can go see some family. Probably not the wisest thing to do with my savings right now, but I can't think of a better short term lift of spirits. She really needs some connection right now, and I think spending time with her niece will help.

Edit: i feel like a bad daughter right now, and like a burden. It's hard.

Edit: Gosh, I wish I was better at finding work.

Is it worthwhile to return with 6 months left on visa to do 88 days and extend?

For sad personal reasons i will not go into, i returned home early after 6 weeks in Aus. I tried to get back into life at home but find myself feeling stuck and depressed.

Now im considering going back to Aus. Id have to book a ticket here very soon though.

Thoughts?

Today, I deserved better.

I can't say anything else right now. Just shocked and shaking. Just need documented proof that I recognized that I deserve kindness.

So strange for it to happen on the same day someone else said they were proud of me. Life is weird, showing with both hands.

Edit: thank you to those who responded. Today has been better. I am doing what I can at this time to be kind to myself. Wishing you all the best

I don't deserve it, but I could use a hug

I'm failing, currently with my parents. This past month, I haven't looked for work. Today my mom told me I need to find a job soon. It's been 4 months since I returned to the US. I had been looking, but this past month I got depressed and dropped the ball. It was a gut punch to hear this.

I don't know, I was considering going back to Australia, or just finding a survival job in the Pacific Northwest. No particular path makes me happy.

I did some good coping today. I did tasks I was avoiding (except job searching - I've learned, never apply when emotional), and I prepped my car to donate more of my things. I called a warmline when I felt doom/despair, and I called when I got angry about the whole situation.

I'm sorry I keep failing. I want to be okay again. I want to love myself again. I loved who I was when I was not here. Now, I feel trapped, and the only person I felt was fully on my side just told me I need to find a job soon.

Fellow Americans - Do you call our country "the US", "the States" or "America"?

I've noticed that when i read someone using "America" my brain automatically assumes they aren't American or familiar with the US.

Im wondering how true that is? Is it context dependent? Because most Americans I know say "the US" unless purposefully mocking politics, then they say "America" or "Murica". But i havent lived in other parts of the US to know.

edit: oh wow, maybe someone should do a study on this? there's a lot of context dependence that might be interesting to delve into.

Edit: WOW 500 comments. Thanks everyone for sharing! Leaving this post but logging off. Thanks for the stimulating conversation!
