Why does this hat looks cheap and tacky (bihari wedding)

Hi, so I was searching about traditional Bihari weddings, and I somehow got to know that the groom wears a "mauri" traditionally made from bamboo and other materials found in nature, and the bride wears a "patmauri" or something similar. Assuming that the guy is wearing Mauri here, the wedding hat, It feels weird because this appears nothing like what I read, that it's made from natural materials, so that's why it looks overly done and cheap.

I would love to know your opinion over this, do every bihari wedding look like this? have you seen those traditional Mauris? Because I can't find them anywhere on the internet, and I'm a genz bihari, born and brought up outside Bihar, so I don't know much. No offense

also these days bihari weddings looks very punjabified and north indianized like Karan johar films but bihari lol, arggh why god

Bihari Queer baddies, do y'all exist?!

Sorry for the weird framing of the question, but yeah, I have never seen a queer Bihari person. Like, do y'all exist, or is it just me? Lol. I was born in rajasthan and lived outside bihar throughout my childhood, but still, I low-key feel an absence of touch from my own roots, not to strengthen the stereotypes, but it's quite hard to assume that biharis won't be homophobic.

I crave a Bihari open-minded community atp sm preferably queer, because wdym, no tracing back to the roots, but then I am like, in india we barely have space for queer individuals, let alone region-wise. I dont even know why I am writing this at 1 AM, considering I have a test of 30 marks tomorrow. Fck DU

🌈 Community Feedback & Artist Call

Hey everyone!

We've made a few small updates to the subreddit recently, including adding new custom emojis that can now be used in user flairs.

✨ You can now customize your user flair using the available emoji options.

If there's a specific pride flag, symbol, identity, meme, or community-related image you'd like to see added as a flair emoji, let us know in the comments. We'll see what we can do!

💡 What would you like to see from the subreddit going forward?

Whether it's:
• New post/user flairs
• Community events
• Regular megathreads
• Resources and guides
• Changes to existing rules
• Anything else

Feel free to drop your suggestions below. We can't promise we'll implement every idea, but community feedback is always welcome and helps us understand what members would like to see.

🎨 Calling all queer artists!

We're also interested in giving the subreddit a more unique identity.

If you'd like to help create an original subreddit icon, banner, mascot, or other artwork for the community, we'd love to see your ideas. It would be amazing to have artwork created by members of the community rather than relying on generic images.

If you're interested, leave a comment or reach out through modmail.

And as always, please continue reporting rule-breaking content when you see it. Reports help us respond much faster and keep the community safe for everyone.

📌 Quick Reminder: Please Read the Updated Rules

Hey everyone! 🏳️‍🌈

Over the past few weeks, we've introduced several new rules and safety measures to help keep r/LgbTeenIndia a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ teens.

Before posting or commenting, please take a few minutes to read through the updated rules and make sure you're familiar with them.

Some of the recent changes include:
• Teen Space Only (13–19)
• Content Warning (CW/TW) requirements for sensitive topics
• Restrictions on NSFW solicitation and adult-oriented activity
• No personal photos, face reveals, or requests for photos
• No friend-finding, meetup, or introduction posts outside designated megathreads
• Stricter safety and moderation measures

📢 Please remember to report rule-breaking content when you see it.

Reports are one of the fastest ways to bring issues to our attention and help us keep the community safe. Commenting alone does not always alert moderators.

💡 Suggestions and feedback are always welcome. If you have ideas on how we can improve the subreddit, make it safer, or enhance the overall community experience, feel free to share them in the comments or via modmail.

We're always looking for ways to improve, and community feedback plays an important role in that.

Thank you for helping us keep r/LgbTeenIndia safe, supportive, and welcoming for everyone. 💜

🚨 COMMUNITY SAFETY UPDATE 🚨

Hey everyone! 🏳️‍🌈

Over the past few days, we've seen a few instances of adults entering this community and making inappropriate or sexually suggestive posts. This is completely unacceptable in a space intended for LGBTQ+ teens.

We understand many members have been frustrated, especially when these posts remained visible for some time. We hear you.

LGBTeenIndia is currently moderated by a very small active team, and while we do our best to review content as quickly as possible, we cannot instantly see every post or comment. However, we have recently implemented several new measures to strengthen community safety.

🛡️ What's Changed?

1. Teen Space Only (13–19)

>LGBTeenIndia is exclusively for LGBTQ+ teenagers aged 13–19. Users above the age of 19 are not permitted to participate in this community.

2. Stricter Safety Filters

>We have strengthened AutoModerator and enabled stricter safety settings to help identify suspicious, inappropriate, and potentially predatory activity more quickly.

3. NSFW & Adult-Oriented Activity

>Accounts involved in NSFW solicitation or other adult-oriented activity may be removed or banned at moderator discretion in order to maintain a safe teen-focused environment.

4. Content Warnings

>Posts discussing potentially distressing topics such as homophobia, transphobia, abuse, bullying, family rejection, self-harm, suicide, violence, or similar subjects must include a CW/TW and be marked as Spoiler.

5. No Photo Sharing

>For safety and privacy reasons, posts containing photos of yourself, other people, or requests for users to share photos are no longer permitted.

6. Friend-Finding & Introduction Posts

>To help protect member privacy and safety, standalone posts seeking friends, chat partners, DMs, introductions, meetups, or connections are no longer permitted.

>This includes posts such as:
• "Looking for friends"
• "Anyone want to chat?"
• "DM me"
• "Looking for queer friends"
• "Anyone from Delhi/Mumbai/etc.?"
• Similar friend-finding or introduction posts

>We will be creating a dedicated community megathread where members can introduce themselves and connect with others in a safer, moderated environment.

Please note that moderators may take action in situations that are not explicitly covered by the rules if doing so is necessary to protect the safety and well-being of the community.

It's also worth noting that not every moderation action is publicly visible. Behind the scenes, we regularly review reports, investigate suspicious accounts, remove rule-breaking content, and ban users who violate our safety policies.

For privacy and moderation reasons, we generally do not publicly discuss individual users or enforcement actions. However, please know that reports are reviewed and action is taken when necessary.

📢 We Need Your Help

One thing we noticed is that inappropriate posts do receive comments expressing concern, but some of them were never reported.

Please remember:

Commenting does not always alert moderators. Reporting does.

If you see:

 • An adult participating in the community
 • Sexual solicitation
 • Requests for DMs, photos, or hookups
 • Harassment or predatory behaviour
 • Any other suspicious activity

Please report it immediately.

🔒 Stay Safe

 • Do not share personal information.
 • Be cautious about moving conversations to DMs.
 • Do not send photos to strangers.
 • If someone makes you uncomfortable, block them and report them.

Our goal is simple: to keep r/LgbTeenIndia a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ teens.

If you have suggestions on how we can further improve safety while keeping the community accessible to the teens who need it most, feel free to share them below.

Thank you for helping us keep this community safe.💜

📢 New Rule: Content Warnings for Sensitive Topics

Posts discussing homophobia, transphobia, bullying, abuse, family rejection, hate speech, discrimination, self-harm, suicide, violence, or other potentially distressing experiences must include a clear Content Warning (CW)/Trigger Warning (TW) in the title and be marked as Spoiler.

This helps community members avoid unexpectedly encountering content that may be distressing or triggering and allows them to engage when they feel ready.

Examples:
• CW: Homophobia
• TW: Bullying

Note: CW (Content Warning) and TW (Trigger Warning) are both accepted under this rule. Feel free to use either.

Lack of bihari fellows/community in my life

Yo, hi. I was just randomly searching for bihar on Reddit and found this sub. I am 19yo guy in my 2nd year of college at Delhi University. Idk, but suddenly i felt some sort of emptiness considering how much I am not in touch with my own community and roots for that matter; I don't have any bihari friends with whom I can speak my mother tongue. It feels weird to me seeing other people from different states doing so. Ahh, how much I crave a community atp.

On top of that, I am gay (out to my family and friends "acquaintances" in my college), so ultimately due to heteronormativity you got very few people (negligible)

There are 2 classmates of mine who are from Bihar. I know them, but sadly they are low-key conservative, patriarchal and internal misogyny, let alone heteronormativity, exists, which is just a red flag again, and it is better to be alone than engaging with them.

I had a few Bihari friends when i was a child, but since my dad is a govt employee, switching places every 3 years I have zero atp

so yeah, I don't even know why I am posting this but maybe to get some catharsis, or eventually find like-minded people

How to learn Bengali as a non-bengali

Hi everyone, so I'm a 19yo college student from Delhi university, and I am so fasciated by the bengali language, culture and everything as it's so rich and yeah. I remember seeing people sing in Bengali and I used to be like i wanna do this too since I was in 8th grade.

Due to my father's job, I have had lived in west bengal for like 3 years near siliguri, but I was like 3 years old back then so i don't remember much.

Now I had been constantly thinking of trying to learn Bengali, as I just love the this language, how sweet it it's in itself, sadly I don't have any Bengali friends who could have helped me this, so here I am asking how can I learn this beautiful language, i can't technically go ahead and enroll in diploma/certificate course due to college and family restrictons so what are the other ways I can.

I want to be able to read, write, converse and understand Bengali.

Edit: Are there any apps like Duolingo which can help me learn Bengali comparatively through an easier process?

Mod Announcement: Updates & Community Input

Hey everyone,

Lately, a lot of people in the community have raised concerns about creepy interactions, inappropriate DMs, suspicious accounts, and generally uncomfortable behavior on the sub — and honestly, we get why people are frustrated.

This space is supposed to be for LGBTQ+ teens to feel safe, supported, and able to just exist without constantly being on guard. So going forward, moderation around predatory behavior, harassment, unwanted sexual interactions, and suspicious activity is going to be handled more seriously.

We’re also thinking about introducing some new moderation/community safety initiatives, and before making changes, we wanted to hear directly from you all.

What would you like to see improve here? Any ideas, concerns, suggestions, or things you think mods should do better — drop them below.

Thanks for sticking around and helping keep this community better for everyone.
