James Franklin thinks Virginia Tech has a chance to make some waves in the ACC this year

James Franklin was on an episode of The Triple Option and sounded pretty optimistic about what Virginia Tech can build this year.

He talked about how competitive he expects the ACC to be, but what stood out to me was how much he emphasized Lane Stadium and the potential home-field advantage. He said Enter Sandman is significant, called the fanbase hungry and said they want to take the atmosphere to “a whole another level.”

Urban Meyer also brought up taking Ohio State to Blacksburg in 2015 and basically described the atmosphere as hell to play in.

Obviously Franklin knows a thing or two about building a home-field advantage after his time at Penn State. If VT takes care of business early, how quickly do you think Lane can get back to being one of those places nobody wants to play?

Are Bo Jackson and Isaiah West good enough to recreate what Ohio State had with Judkins and Henderson?

Beanie brought this up on The Script and that's obviously the dream scenario.

The last time Ohio State had two legit starting-caliber backs sharing the workload, Judkins and Henderson helped them win a national championship and both ended up going in the second round.

Now Isaiah West is getting first-team reps and Beanie thinks his explosiveness and low center of gravity could make him a perfect complement to Bo.

I'm not saying they're Judkins and Henderson yet, but could this backfield eventually get close to that level?

Would you rather FSU face Austin Mack or Keelon Russell?

AJ McCarron talked about Alabama's QB situation on the new Dynasty episode and made an interesting distinction between Austin Mack's experience in the system and Keelon Russell actually doing it against SEC competition.

With FSU getting Alabama in Week 3, I'm curious which QB Seminole fans would rather see.

Mack has more experience in the system, but Russell probably brings the higher ceiling.

Who would you rather Alabama start against FSU?

AJ McCarron says “95%” of college QBs just look to the sideline now. Has the position gotten too coach-dependent?

AJ McCarron got into this on the new episode of The Dynasty and I thought it was a pretty interesting point.

He was explaining how much responsibility he used to have at the line.

Identifying fronts, linebacker positioning, safety rotation and getting the offense out of a bad run look.

Then he joked that nowadays 95% of college QBs just turn to the sideline like, “Is the play good, coach?”

Obviously 95% is an exaggeration, but I get what he's saying. With how much information coaches can give QBs before the snap now, do you think we've lost some of the value of having a QB truly run the offense at the line?

Or is this just offenses getting smarter?

Ryan Day says Ohio State has the best coaching staff in the country. Do you agree?

The Script posted this quote from Ryan Day at Big Ten Media Days:

“I think we’ve put together the best coaching staff in the nation.”

Obviously Day is going to back his own guys, but looking at this staff top to bottom, I don't think it's that crazy of a statement.

Where would you rank Ohio State's staff nationally right now? And which coach on the staff are you most confident in heading into this season?

Be honest: what is the minimum acceptable result for Ohio State this season?

Ryan Day told The Script there's no such thing as rebuilding at Ohio State because the standard doesn't change.

So let's actually put that standard to the test.

With this roster and this schedule, what's the minimum that would make you consider this season successful?

Beat Michigan?
Big Ten title?
CFP semifinal?
National championship or bust?

I'm curious where Buckeye fans actually draw the line.

Is “finishing games” really the only thing keeping Jordan Love from being a top-tier QB?

John Kuhn had an interesting take on The Tundra about what Jordan Love needs to do to take the next step.

His answer was pretty simple: finish games better. If Love can consistently close out games when Green Bay has a chance late, Kuhn thinks that's what can push him to the next level.

I actually think that's fair. We've seen enough stretches where Love looks like one of the best QBs in football. At this point, it feels less about whether he can play at that level and more about doing it consistently, especially when the game is on him late.

What do you guys think? What's the ONE thing Love needs to improve to become a legitimate top-10 QB?

This is the mentality The Game is supposed to have. Jeremiah Smith gets it.

Michigan’s coach was just talking about how he doesn’t understand why “hating” Ohio State would give them a better chance to win.

Then you have Jeremiah Smith on The Triple Option: “I hate Michigan with everything in me.”

Give me Jeremiah’s mentality every single time.

Ohio State doesn’t cross out every M on campus, put countdown clocks in the Woody and spend 365 days hearing about The Game just to treat Michigan like another opponent. Obviously it’s football hate, but that hatred and intensity is part of what makes this rivalry what it is.

Feels like one side understands that a little more right now.

Anyone else absolutely LOVE hearing this from Jeremiah?

Who's a Premier League player you think was much better than people remember?

Landon Donovan was talking about his Everton days on Unfiltered Soccer and said Steven Pienaar was the best player he played with there.

It got me thinking about players from that era who were really, really good but don't get brought up much anymore because they weren't necessarily superstars.

Who is your club's version of that?

A player who people who actually watched every week know was quality, but doesn't get remembered enough outside the fanbase?

Landon Donovan says Steven Pienaar was the best player he played with at Everton

Landon Donovan and Tim Howard were going through old lineups on Unfiltered Soccer and Donovan got onto the topic of his time at Everton.

He said people ask him who the best player he played with at Everton was and, while Cahill obviously has the numbers, his answer was Steven Pienaar.

He talked about how Everton got Pienaar from Dortmund and basically immediately realized how good he was.

For Everton fans who watched that era, how good was Pienaar at his peak? And who would you say was the best player on those Moyes teams?

Julian Sayin says pocket presence and using his legs are two of his biggest focuses this offseason

Sayin gave a pretty interesting self-evaluation on The Triple Option.

He said he's been working on cleaner feet in the pocket, better pocket presence and recognizing when nothing is there and he needs to take off and pick up a first down with his legs.

That last one especially stood out to me. There were definitely times last year where it felt like he could've taken the easy yards.

What's the ONE part of Sayin's game you most want to see improve this season?

How big is Ohio State coming to the Coliseum this year?

Julian Sayin was on The Triple Option talking about Ohio State's schedule and specifically mentioned how excited the team is to go out to USC.

Sayin is obviously a Southern California guy himself, so that's a pretty cool storyline too.

Where does the Ohio State game rank among the ones USC fans are most excited for this season?

How much of an advantage is Texas getting Ohio State in Austin?

Julian Sayin talked on The Triple Option about Ohio State's schedule and specifically mentioned how excited the team is to go down to Austin early in the year.

It's one of the games that jumps off the schedule immediately.

From the Texas side, how big of an advantage do you think DKR actually gives the Horns in this matchup?

And what's the matchup you're most confident Texas can exploit against OSU?

What's the earliest recruiting commitment you actually care about?

The Script was talking about Ohio State landing a 2028 QB and Cardale Jones basically said he doesn't really buy into these things until the player is actually on campus.

If your school gets a five-star commitment three years out, are you actually excited? Or is recruiting so volatile now that you don't care until signing day?

Rank these four Ohio State QBs: JT Barrett, Justin Fields, Troy Smith, Braxton Miller

The Script was talking about JT Barrett going into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame and it got me thinking about where he actually belongs among modern OSU quarterbacks.

JT doesn't have the Heisman like Troy or the highlight reel of Braxton/Fields, but 4-0 against Michigan and all those records are pretty hard to argue with.

How are you ranking these four based strictly on their Ohio State careers?

James Peoples says he wants to cross paths with Ohio State this year

James Peoples apparently said he intends to cross paths with Ohio State this season, which would have to happen in the Big Ten Championship or playoff.

The guys on The Script had some fun with it. Beanie Wells basically said he respects Peoples saying it, but doesn't think he actually wants to see this Ohio State defense.

I'd LOVE to get that matchup now.

If Penn State and OSU meet in Indy or the playoff, how do you think Peoples would do against this defense?

Would you rather have one workhorse RB or a true 50/50 split between Bo and Isaiah West?

Beanie Wells made the case on The Script for Ohio State going back to a true two-back approach with Bo Jackson and Isaiah West.

His point was basically that there's no reason to run one guy into the ground anymore when you have two talented backs, especially with how long the season can be.

I'm with him, but if Bo looks anything like he did late last year, it's going to be hard not to feed him.

If both are healthy, how would you split the carries?

Michigan already trying the “we don’t hate Ohio State” thing 😂

Saw The Blueprint post this quote from Michigan’s coach saying he doesn’t understand why hating Ohio State would give them a better chance to win.

Maybe I’m biased, but this is exactly the kind of thing I’d expect Michigan to say when they’re trying to act above the rivalry lol.

You don’t have to literally hate the people on the other sideline, but The Game is supposed to feel different. Ohio State spends all year talking about beating Michigan for a reason.

Are you buying the “hate doesn’t matter” approach, or does this just sound like Michigan trying to soften the rivalry?

What's the hardest position to play as a true freshman?

AJ McCarron was describing his first college camp on The Dynasty podcast and said everything was moving so fast that sometimes he'd basically just find a veteran QB and follow wherever he went.

Trent Richardson also talked about how much more there is to playing RB than just getting the ball.

Which position has the steepest jump from high school to major college football?

QB feels like the obvious answer, but OL or safety might have an argument here.

Does Lane Kiffin get too much credit for Trinidad Chambliss?

Saw this quote from an SEC coach saying Lane Kiffin “probably gets too much credit” for Trinidad Chambliss.

Ole Miss fans, do you agree with that?

How much of Chambliss’ success do you credit to Kiffin and the system vs. Chambliss just being that good?
