KH4 got a late 2027 release window, so it got me thinking what the next KH figure will be. Play Arts Shin Sora is a given and I suspect it will get announced next year. My realistic expectation is Riku, as usual ,but my dream is to finally get Mickey, Donald and Goofy in Kai/Shin scale.

What are your realistic expectations and wildest dreams about new figures?

Can I get an opinion on my latest custom figure? Base is modified Elena Play Arts Kai body and everything else is 3d printed and painted.

Let’s say the third part concludes the FF7 story leaving no unanswered questions or cliffhangers. It’s obvious Sephiroth will be laid to rest once and for all, but I was wondering how will this duo be handled.
Put aside you feelings for AC and DoC, they are obviously canon in some regard, so Genesis and Weiss should be handled in some way, right? If not, that would not conclude the story since they should be alive and obviously up to sonething.
What is your opinion?

I had a few people messaging me and asking about my custom figures, some had specific questions about the creation process so I decided to make a post outlining some challenges and my personal experience.

To begin with, I wanted to create some of the lesser known characters as SOLDIER forms. I like DoC, it's not really popular andloved by many but it holds a special part in my heart. Also, I think Nero and Weiss have pretty cool design, I always liked edgy characters and the two of them give out Devil May Cry vibes.

As a base I used Zack 1st Class PAK figure but I needed to make him more bulky. Both Zack and Weiss have athletic build but Zack's build gives off soccer player proportions while Weiss looks more like an MMA fighter to me. I found a bodybuilder plain figure on aliexpress in similar scale and used only its arms. I was lucky the sockets in the body were the same size so basically the arms just fit in almost instantly after molding it a bit with hot air gun. When compared with Zack side-by-side you can clearly see that his arms are more muscular, as it should be.

Also, I bought an extra set of 3rd party tactical hands since he needed larger hands. Other than the size, his gunblades serve as a firearm so I needed a set of hands which can grip a gun and we all know PAK Zack doesn't have hands like that.

On the wrists I used thin black aluminum strips and they serve as wrist guards/bracers. They are a bit larger than expected but it helps to make his hands look larger.

His shoulder pads are also the same model as Zack's but they needed to be scaled up of course to add to his larger build. The are fixed to the moving hinge around the shoulder of the original figure so I can move it up and down.

The main challenge was the head obviously. Other than the tedious paintjob I was not sure how it would work out because his 3d model had to be modified a lot. His hair had to be manually modified from 2d strips and given volume which was time consuming. SLA printer was used of course and that's mainly the reason why this was made possible. Before the SLA printing technology, this would not be possible. Some of the end hair strains at the were very thin and I was stressed about breaking it but it went well. His hair is the part i am most proud of. It has volume and really adds to his villain look.

As for the weapons they were also ripped from FF7 Remake ingame model and faithfully scaled to his body. I printed out and painted two sets of swords. The first set was painted and its purpose is to be held in hand. While the sheath was designed to hold a full size sword, I didn't want to risk of chipping the tip of the blade as well as scraping the paintjob so I cut the final 30% of the other pair. Since the final part of the blade is not even visible from the outside it wouldn't matter and having two sets meant I wouldn't have to take his weapons out of his hands if I ever wanted to change the pose.

The sword sheath was a pain in the ass because I wanted to keep it scaled. The space inside had to be large enough for the sword to fit in but not too large so it wouldn't come as too bulky.

The final challenge was finding out the way to hold the two sheathes. In the end I used two 2mm thickness round magnets and fixed them with two-component adhesive both to the body and to the sheathes. I realized magnets are a lifesaver for situations like this because it holds very well and you can also put it apart very easily.

I think I covered basically everything I find interesting. I apologize if this does not interest you but I wanted to show how play arts kai figures can be approached in makiing something you like. This hobby gives me peace and quiet, it is really relaxing and rewarding and really shows how far technology came in the last decade. I am by no means a pro in this. All of this is purely home made and scraped from free 3d models and commercial tools and paints (other than the 3d print itself).

The 40th anniversary trio arrived today. Very happy with my purchase, they will be joining the rest of the boys on the shelf.

I am just about finished with my latest project of making a custom Cissnei figure in Play Arts Kai scale and just wanted to share it with you guys. All of the components are almost ready just need a few finishing touches (paintjob, varnish). I went with a more serious facial expression to make her appear more mature and maybe use the headsculpt for a new attire some time in the future.

I will be following up with a proper post showcasing the whole figure in a couple of weeks since I am not at home. I just wanted to share and check if anyone has any last minute tips to make the figure even better. Enjoy!

The headsculpt is done, I went with a more serious facial expression than the ingame model. The body and the shuriken need couple of finishing touches and a final coat of varnish. This is what I am working with right now.

I will be busy for the next couple of weeks so the post with a complete figure with some cool poses and proper photos will have to wait a bit. Hopefully you like the work so far.

Today I finally got around to doing something I've been putting off for ages. I took all figures out of the display, cleaned the whole thing, swapped the LED lights for cold white lights and reorganized the figures.I realized I might have a problem when they were spread out on the floor and there were so many of them accumulated obver the years.

The display itself was a bit of a project too. I had a very specific space to work with - wanted the width to be 100-105 cm and arpund 35-40 cm deep. Spent a long time trying to find a cabinet with the right dimensions, but never found anything that really fit. In the end I had one custom made last year. The shelves are also custom made, 20 mm thick acrylic because with the weight of PAK figures I didn't want to deal with sagging shelves down the line. The shelves were expensive as hell but it had to be done. I still got a couple more figures planned for this year, but it's getting crowded as it is.

Anyway, now that everything is cleaned up and back in place, I thought I would share a few photo of my cabinet, new lights and all of my play arts kai figures in one place

I'd also love to see how everyone else displays their collection. What kind of lighting do you use and how you set it up? Any custom cabinets, shelves or any clever solutions for displaying but not making it look crowded. It's Always fun seeing other people's setups and maybe picking up a few ideas.

To keep her what makes her Tifa, she keeps some her signature design elements (red boots, crop top, gauntlet) but along with the standard SOLDIER uniform to a degree. Her shoulder pauldrons accomodate her lighter slender build since she is primarily still a martial artist.

Since her fighting style focuses on speed, mobility and martial arts, her gear is lighter and less bulky than most SOLDIER operatives. But as we all know, everyone undergoing a SOLDIER program, must be trained in swordfighting so she also carries a custom SOLDIER sword.

The only thing I couldn't bring myself to change were her eyes. She should probbly would need to have Mako blue eyes, but Tifa's natural reddish eyes just fit her too well. Maybe I will change them some day.

Just arrived today. Very happy with my new figure. Kinda refreshing to see him posed with Kingdom Key.

This weekend I did some work on my custom Cissnei figure (base is Elena PAK body) and here is the update:

• Painted the hands with black primer to emulate gloves
• 3D print of the shuriken and headsculpt completed
• Made the strips that go along her sleeves and legs - don't know what those strips actually are, I call them Nomura strips
• Painted the tie with black primer

Stuff I yet need to do:

• Complete the paintjob on gloves, tie, strips and pockets by making them black and glossy
• repaint the whole suit a bit because her suit color is a different shade from Elena's, it's a bit more blue and the shirt color is a bit darker
• Work on headsculpt and shuriken

Final two picture is a render of how her headsculpt should look like ideally.

This is my general plan. Any more tips from someone experienced in customs like these? Also I have a question for those familiar with Cissnei as a character: I tried to estimate the size of her shuriken by comparing the figure to the ingame model and I came up with 9.5 cm length from two furthest points. Please take a look at the pictures of the figures holding the shuriken and give me your opinion is it sized appropriately? Thx in advance.

I will be using Elena PAK figure since they are built similarly but of course her suit needs to be repainted a bit because of the different shades and details.
As for the head, the head and weapon models are ready for print and painting.
