Dating with cancer?

Has anyone had success dating with cancer? Im 18F and have been wanting a boyfriend but am scared about mentioning that I have cancer and have lost my hair. Im in remission and have a wig but Im afraid to bring it up and I’m scared they wont view me as attractive if I’m bald. Are there people who have experience dating with cancer and has it worked out? Teenage boys can be really mean… any other 18-19 yr old boys with cancer who are looking for a relationship? I think it would be better because we can understand what one another is going through and be there to support each other!

Worried about delayed intensification

I was diagnosed with ALL early last year at 17 (now 18) and am now getting closer to delayed intensification which I heard was similar to the induction phase. To those who have gone through this is that really true? I’m terrified of feeling super nauseous, fatigued, in pain, and irritable again like how I did in induction. (Which was very rough for me) I’m also scared/sad about loosing my hair again since it’s started to grow back a bit. :(

What is in mikes way?

I really want to make the special “mikes way” seasoning that Jersey mikes has at home. I know there’s vinegar and oregano but would really like to know all the ingredients! Thank you :-)

Methotrexate chemo causing a sore throat

I recently got a 24 hour dosage of methotrexate chemo and noticed a couple days after I received it that I had gotten a sore throat. This has happened twice now when I have gotten methotrexate. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Is there any PFA free microwavable popcorn?

I love microwavable popcorn but know that PFA bag linings in microwavable popcorn bags have traces to cancer. Are there any brands that are PFA and Diacetyl free? Thanks :)

Is it safe to eat ice cream from icecream shop if neutropenic?

Is it safe to go out and get ice cream from an ice cream shop if your wbc/anc counts are on the lower side? Or did you go out and eat it? Thank you!

College deferral rejected ☹️

Im a graduating senior and was supposed to go to college in the fall and got accepted. I would have gone this year in the fall, but last year late December I got diagnosed with cancer.. 🙁 So that being said I decided to ask my college for a deferral because my doctors advised me to since I’m immunocompromised and have alot of chemo I still need to do. My college said the qualifying exceptions would be if you have military duty, religious obligations, or serious personal or family health issues. I would say getting cancer is definitely a serious health issue but I guess my college did not because they declined my deferral and said I could reapply next year which really pissed me off. I don’t need extra stress added to my life I think the physical and mental burden of cancer and having to do chemo, spinal taps, hospital stays, etc is enough so on top of that they expect me to have to do the whole college application process again while I feel like shit!?? I just feel like it’s really insensitive and unfair. That’s my rant. :(

How was going to college like with leukemia?

Hi Im 18 with ALL leukemia and am planning to go to college next year when Im in maintenance. I’m wondering what college life was like/ is like for those with leukemia. For example, how was it going to classes/lectures with low wbc/ anc counts from chemo?, how do you avoid getting sick or if you got sick how did you deal with it?, were you able to live life normally in college?, and whats your experience? Thank you :)

How did you find out you had leukemia?

Hello Im 18 and got diagnosed with leukemia in December last year when I was 17. Ive just been curious to hear how you knew you had leukemia for anyone who would like to share their story. We all got this and I wish everyone the best luck and health :) !

I had stomach bug/flu like symptoms for two weeks but it was the WORST sickness I had ever felt. I was really fatigued and could barely do anything. I had no appetite and was super nauseous to the point I couldn't eat, I felt like fainting every time I got up, had back/shoulder aches, and was constantly cold (my lips were literally purple!!). Despite this I still went to school... It's funny because my mom and I went to two doctors and they both said it's just a flu or stomach bug and sent me off. It was a few days before Christmas when my stomach started hurting REALLY REALLY bad like the worst stomach pain I've ever had in my life and my mom took me to the ER (literally had to be rolled into the ER in a wheelchair it was that bad.) The doctors did some bloodwork and diagnosed me with ALL and my stomach pain was coming from a buildup of leukemia cells in my liver. I ended up staying 2 and a 1/2 weeks in the hospital and came home for 3 nice days... UNTIL my dumbass picc line got infected and I got mucositis which caused me to stay in the hospital for a whole month it was very traumatizing ngl. Anyways I'm in remission now and have been since February but still in consolidation phase so yeah :)

Wbc dropping on blina

Ive been on blinatumomab (blina) for almost a month now but up to last week I saw that my wbc was dropping. I usually go in once a week for blina bag changes and my wbc went first from 6.5 to 3.3 then to 1.5 today which surprised me because on blina your wbc is supposed to go up and be better and on top of that my anc dropped to 0.3 which has made me really nervous…. Anyone else dealt with this before?

Can I eat cold cuts?

I remember early in my treatment when my counts and anc were really low my doctor advised me to go on a neutropenic diet and to avoid things like cold cuts, raw vegetables/fruits from restaurants, and undercooked food. That being said, I REALLYY miss eating jersey mikes sandwiches and my counts are up more since im on immunotherapy (Wbc at 3.3 and Anc at 1.8). So if my counts are up do you guys think its safe to eat cold cuts/lettuce. I just really miss the sandwiches. Also does anyone else still eat cold cuts during treatment?

Do you go out even when your counts are low?

After I got diagnosed with leukemia and started chemo Ive been really cautious about getting sick (not going out into crowds/ wearing a mask) since chemo usually lowers your immune system and lowers your white blood counts. Im wondering if anyone goes out to crowded restaurants without a mask or out in general even when on chemo. Im asking this because I was considering going out to dinner with family since Im graduating highschool and my counts are up at around 3.3 since im on immunotherapy! Do you guys just go out normally even when your wbc is low? Thanks :)

Missing prom

Today was my school’s prom and Im a senior but couldn’t go because I was diagnosed with cancer late last year. My doctors said I could possibly have gone but as much as I wanted to go I said I “didn’t” want to because lets be honest I don’t have hair right now, im on immunotherapy so Im on this portable IV kind of thing thats pretty noticeable, I dont feel pretty, Ive been gone from school since December, I lost weight (at 88ish pounds) because of chemo nausea and depression, and Im immunocompromised from chemo treatment. I just feel really sad and alone. Thats all

Anyone have side effects on immunotherapy?

Im on my second round of immunotherapy for ALL leukemia and was wondering if anyone else experienced side effects on the therapy like nausea or loss of appetite?

I was 95-98 pounds pre cancer (I got diagnosed last December right before Christmas) and now Im at 85 pounds. (For reference Im 18F and 5’4) I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that they have significantly lost weight since starting chemo/getting cancer. Is there any tips anyone has to gaining weight back especially since its hard to eat with chemo causing nausea and fatigue.
