There are several episodes of the series that feature a main character, longing to escape to a time in the past, seeing it as a beautiful era compared to their mediocre present. Which ones did you relate to the most? Do you long for a time in your childhood like in “Walking Distance?” Or maybe a time you didn’t even exist like in “A Stop at Willoughby.” Or any of the other countless episodes.
He could’ve just changed when he got back. It doesn’t really make a difference.
Was it centered around their trip to San Francisco? Does something bad happen on the trip and it’s actually a super dark movie? If so, that would mean that he probably should have stayed as Gerald Raigan.
For those who don’t know, John Randolph played Frank Costanza in the original airing of the Season 4 episode, “The Handicap Spot.” Later on, Larry David and the writers decided that the character needed to be more loud and crazy, so they replaced Randolph with Jerry Stiller in the fifth season. Then, in 1995, after the show had reached 100 episodes and entered syndication, they decided to reshoot all of Frank’s scenes from “The Handicap Spot” with Stiller for continuity purposes in the reruns. Obviously, Stiller was the better choice, but it was pretty messed up to remove Randolph from the show entirely.
