Im fishing off a pier
What fish what the live smelt catch?? could they catch bonito
Do they make small fish like smelt feel like monsters?
And would they work at a pier targeting... smelt
Theres a spot i go to with a TONNN of barred sand bass and i can never catch any. the only lure i have is hookup tube lure
also its a pier
Im using tiny hooks with like squid on it and it always gets POUNDED
but they never never NEVER bite on to the actual hook.

Im going to my last fishing trip before school starts against next week to a pier " i know its bad but its the only option" . Started this summer and it was one of THE BEST experiences i ever had. Im going to a pier cause theres like no people on weekdays so its just my group and its fun. 2nd time i went i caught hella bonito but after that i got nothing but i saw a TON of sand bass. They went top water and i could see them chasing sardines and bait fish. There was also bait balls and small bait fish jumping down.
Im trying to go out with a bang, so does anyone have any tips to catching these bass and bonito?
Some guy gifted me a shimano colt sniper and a med lure from hook up baits with the advice to jig jig and let it fall for a bit to imitate dying baitfish to target bass so i was also wondering if any of those is good for targeting pelagics like bonito.
im also looking to maybe use splasher bobbers like cast a bubbles with the sabikis. I see people also using like 18 hook sabikis and catching bonito right next to me when its early in the morning while i catch jack so whats up with that
I get the you basically catch limit every cast but i throw em back either way and its fun when you catch like a full house/banana.
Im going to my first charter boat next week. The only fishing I've ever done is off piers using sabikis, catching mackerel and bonito.
Apparently the boat targets yellowtail, white sea bass, bonito, and barracudas, and they have live bait.
What rig should i use? Do i just drop it straight in the water? do i have to jig or do i just let the live bait do its thing.
Thanks!!
Would this work for catching mackerel and bonito? and would this also work for lures
im casting out pier and the guy in the store recd a 60g
Would a chum bucket rig like the small ones like the medicine pill boxes and stuff for cat fish work for the smaller fish like smelt and salema and other stuff like and maybe mackerel?? With sabikis
Or will it not matter cause theyll bite anyway
Anyone got any tips/ critiques?

What should i look out in to make sure its working fine?
Also is a daiwa bg 4000 a good " first reel" ? ( only other reel i used is daiwa dwave from walmart combo) ill only be fishing at piers and jetties/surf
Some coming to my way from amazon and wondering how to use them
I see people using like multiple hooks with multiple minnows
i see jig heads
Which one do you guys use and hgow do you prevent losing htem
I have the option between a shimano spheros 4000fa ( used) with fishing lures and a penn battle 2 4000 with a a penn tightline 7 feet fishing rod.
Im not gonna do allot of heavy stuff maybe a charter boat here and there and its gonna be mostly pier fishing. Thanks!!
