Chicken paprikash / Paprikás csirke

Chicken paprikash / Paprikás csirke

As usual, there's room to improve, and the one I had in some small restaurant in a backstreet of Budapest was way better. But I was pretty happy with my results.

Chicken cooked in broth with garlic, tomato, peppers, and lots of onion and paprika. Did my best impression of nokedli as the side.

Pasta bake with eggplant

Basically a baked pasta alla norma.

Fry some eggplant/aubergine, cook the pasta (I used up different packs of pasta I had lying around), make a very simple sauce from passata and basil, then mix everything together with cubed mozzarella, add a bit of parmigiano on top and bake for 20 minutes.

I made it yesterday for a hot summer day, and it was delicious with a nice glass of gently cooled red wine.

Erdbeerkuchen. Gebt mir Feedback! :)

Seid nicht zu streng mit mir, das war der erste Versuch, aber trotzdem freue ich mich natürlich über Feedback und Tips!

Wiener Boden, frische Erdbeeren, Tortenguss.

Finely cubed beef (topside, I think. Translating beef cuts is hard), onions, potato, hard boiled eggs, seasoned with salt, pepper, cumin, sweet paprika powder, and chives.

Home made tomato salsa and some red wine to accompany them.

I still have to practice getting a nice edge but they already look better than last time :)

Panzanella

A salad to beat the heat! Tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, basil, and stale bread soaked in water and vinegar, nicely cooled down in the fridge before serving. Dressing is just some vinegar, EVOO, salt and pepper

I used two days old ciabatta with most of the crust cut off, instead of the unsalted tuscan bread that isn't available here

Spaghetti alla strombolana

Tomato, anchovy, capers, olives, tuna.

Living in the food desert that is Germany, I couldn't find proper olives anywhere, and had to go with the weird rubbery dyed ones, because I couldn't make it to the Italian speciality market anymore.

Otherwise it came out nicely, a good summer pasta

Finishing this one today

Sunshine, a nice cold drink, and the last few chapters of Deadhouse Gates to spend a Saturday afternoon. Not too bad, I guess.

I feel the writing has massively improved compared to GotM, which I struggle with occasionally, and I'm really looking forward the the remaining books :)

Milanesas de pollo con puré 🇦🇷 (chicken schnitzel with mash)

Thin chicken schnitzel, "marinated" in a mixture of egg and spices, breaded and fried. Plus very buttery mashed potatoes. An Argentinian classic.

I've finished GotM on the third attempt, and...

... damn, it was a wild ride! Overall I loved it and am looking forward to starting Deadhouse Gates.

But I also found the the last few chapters very frustrating though, because so many things happen without any explanation, even worse than in the rest of the book, and because events that are >! foreshadowed as super big and important are suddenly just over, like the Jaghut episode. Chapters over chapters of hype up of how this thing will tear the world apart, only to end within a few pages through a weird dream sequence and an explosion !<

I'm sure I missed a ton of important stuff, not only for future books, but also for this part of the story too. Is there a semi spoiler-free list somewhere of important plot points? I'm not keen on re-reading anytime soon, even if it's said to be much easier to understand on the second go.
