Builder installed patio door opening and made the floor above it sink! Advise please!

As you can tell from the title, we had builders create an opening downstairs in the kitchen to install patio doors in England. They created an opening and installed a steel beam according to a structural engineers calculations and this was approved by the council. We paid for the work but a week or so goes by and we noticed a few defects. Firstly the bricks were cemented in messy, but most importantly we move the boxes from the room directly above the kitchen where the opening was created and noticed that the floor has sunk by around 2 cm! We have hired a structural engineer to produce a report who said that it will likely be necessary to have remedial works to lift the floor back up to where it is supposed to be, but we have not received the report yet. The builders seem to be trying to deny that it was their fault but it very clearly is their mistake. Luckily, they are being cooperative and have shared their insurance details with us. Once the structural engineers report comes back, what should be our next step? Do we have to give the builders a chance to put it right? Naturally, we are very very hesitant about having the same builders back in who created the problem and do not want them touching the work any further. Is it possible for us to refuse remedial works from the builders themselves, in favour of other builders? Do we share the report with the builders or go directly to their insurance provider? We have paid for subsequent work such as plastering and patio door installation which will also be damaged in the process of remedying the sunken floor- will this be covered to be put right by the builders insurance provider?

Any advice about next steps is so greatly appreciated as we are stuck on what to do next!

LPC (2 year part time) or SQE?

I need urgent advice. I am leaving my paralegal job in order to take the SQE for a year to qualify as a solicitor at the end of it, as I have already done the qualifying period. However, I have just realised that I am eligible to do the LPC, and could do this for 2 years part time whilst working in my legal job. What do I do? I applied to start the SQE in September but may be able to change things around.

Sumo strength and conditioning gym routine recommendations please!

I have started up sumo as a sport over the past few months and absolutely love it. I also go to the gym 2/3 times a week, and was wondering what gym routines people training in sumo follow for strength and conditioning etc. Do you have specific plans or routines you follow or recommend? Thank you!

Wren kitchen vs Ikea kitchen - which is best quality?

Hi everyone, I am looking to make a decision regarding the redesign of my kitchen. I have gone to IKEA and got a quote for a wood laminate kitchen with the wood laminate as shown. I have also gone to Wren kitchens as they have a sale on until Wednesday, and they have quoted me a very similar price for a similar kitchen. I enjoy the storage that IKEA offers however I do wonder whether the Wren kitchen is a better quality, although I can’t really tell to be honest from checking out and comparing both in person.

Does anyone have any experience with the IKEA wood laminate and whether it is durable? For example, would it withstand heat and scratches well, and also will the joinery by the sink be a problem? I honestly do not know all that much about kitchens and just want to make a sensible decision. I also want to go for the IKEA ceramic sink. Any input, thoughts, experience and advice is very much appreciated. I am based in the UK but I am pretty certain their kitchen offerings are international.
Thank you.

What is the best comfort African recipe to make?

I have been wanting to find a new staple African dish for a very long time. My first exposure to African cooking (specifically Nigerian) was jollof rice and I love making party rice now! I am looking for dishes and recipes that are notoriously super tasty, fairly simple to whip up and considered comfort food, so I am sending out a request to this community to share the best and tasty recipes and dishes out there so that I can give it a go!

University of Law or BPP? Which one is the best for SQE?

Hi everyone! I have an offer from UofL and BPP for a full time LLM SQE course to start in September, but I still cannot decide which one is best to go with!

I am self funding, and know that UofL is slightly more expensive (around £2k?) but have saved up hard during being in a job so that I do not have to worry about taking the course cost into consideration and just want the course that gives me the best chance of passing these exams. I would be in London/ online.

Any insights, opinions, thoughts, remarks, observations, experiences, jokes, and whimsical sprinklings of input are all super appreciated!!
