Does the shape of an electrical capacitor affect its self resonance?

Consider a capacitor that is comprised of two long, thin conductors of significant length

As we know, electrons flowing through a conductor of any length produces a slight inductance which increases with length

My theory is having a capacitor, with its capacitance determined by the proximity and size of the conductors, will also have an inductive effect by the increased length the electrons must flow from the ‘furthest’ part of the electrical field

Compare this with a circular plated capacitor with the same field area, but with of course a vastly reduced diameter and therefore much negligible conductor length

Ergo, if you fine tuned the design of this long, thin theoretical capacitor you would have a resonant circuit that doesn’t technically contain a inductive device, just resonant from the capacitance plus the aforementioned increased conductor length giving the inductive element of the resonance

Honesty box sellers stage non-payments to draw more attention to their business

I’m not sure if it’s specific to my country but people have started putting honesty boxes (normally with cakes and things they’ve made) at the side of the road. You’re of course supposed to leave payment for the items in the box

Seems like every day on socials there’s a new video that is camera footage of somebody taking things from the box without paying.

The views they get on these videos are like 10x the amount of views they get on their other content, and it even algorithms it’s way onto people’s socials who never even use honesty boxes or even intend to.

Seems like a nice easy way to draw a lot of focus to your business if you ask me, and also a lot of social media sympathy too if that’s also your thing

Step dad got taken for a complete mug

My step dad is in his seventies and is a bit of a naive old man, and especially doesn’t know anything about cars. For reference, all his cars have been sheds, but this one takes top prize

He frustratingly declined all my offers to help him out changing his car and he ended up buying a zafira for sale in a lay-by.

He paid (a private seller) to tax the car for him, which means he’s had a letter through the door the other day saying he’s been caught driving with no tax after a month of owning the car. Nice little extra bit of pocket money for the seller then..

He’s called me up to moan about it, I’ve put the reg through the website and turns out it doesn’t have an MOT either! What a surprise

When the V5 came through, another one came few days later through for a white Nissan. I’m going to take a punt that it’s not a mistake at the DVLC but probably this dodgy seller using dads details for something else dodgy

As for the car, well it’s as you expect, tyres like harry hill’s head, interior trashed to fuck, absolutely no documents with it at all, no parcel shelf and I could go on

I’m not asking anything specific from this sub, I’m just venting how furious I am that all of this has happened

Considering becoming a foster parent for a while but I'm nervous of rejection!

My main concerns are:

I've never had any children of my own (but a lot of experience with childminding)

Also my place is pretty small, im not sure if that would be a problem

I don't have my own means of transportation but I've looked online and apparently this isn't an issue

Anybody noticing a big increase in problems with food delivery apps?

For the last few weeks or so my orders have constantly been messed up ranging from ignoring my modifications to giving me the complete wrong bag.

This is happening from all different places, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the app itself not putting the order through correctly?

This is actually causing me a bit of stress as sometimes I have barely any money left, my order arrives incorrectly which I can't eat, then I'm left hungry with any food or money until I get refunded (which in itself is dubious)

What are some examples of calorie deficit?

Apologies in advance for being a bit dumb…

So I’ve been advised this is the best way to lose weight, but even after some research I’m struggling to understand it… it seems like most of the people writing about this are already in shape/gym goers so they are kind of hitting the ground running compared to me….

My problem is firstly I have ARFID which means I’m limited on what stuff I can eat, and secondly due to some conditions I have I’m unable to do any intensive exercises.

So my research into calorie deficit isn’t really relating to me… are there any other neurodivergent or beginner people here who have any tips for me?

Asking doctors about weight loss medication

So I have a big fear of doctors, especially talking about my weight. I really want to start using weight loss medications but I don't have the confidence to go to the doctors and bring this up.

For context I have PTSD from being bullied about my weight as a child. I've always been fat since I was a child, and I estimate my current weight to be around 140-150kg currently.

I feel like this is my only option as I am a disabled person who can't leave home very much to exercise. I can't go to the gym or out jogging or any normal stuff.

Tips for losing weight for somebody who is limited for exercise?

I’m a disabled person who is unable to do strenuous or any kind of outdoor activity…

I have been obese my whole life, but it’s recently got out of hand, to estimate based on the last time I checked I’m maybe 150kg right now.

With my disabilities, things like running, cycling, swimming unfortunately are a no-go. Anything I can do at home would be great.

Back and forth with council getting nowhere...

So I have very complex sensory issues and this hot weather is really causing me to struggle to the point of anxiety, panic attacks and more....

I contacted the council about getting a/c installed in my flat as an adaptation, but as per usual it was no straight answer just back and forth getting nowhere

Basically I would have to be reassessed and even if everything checks out after that It would take weeks or months for workmen to come and install it....

Im just so furious that the council just don't care about people with sensory issues! The people I spoke to on the phone didn't even seem to care either!

I bet if the MP wanted an a/c in their office it would be done the same day!!!I guess people with complex sensory issues just don't matter!!!!!!!

Sorry for the rant I'm just feeling so hopeless here

Uggh another bad day today

I suffer from ASD, Aspergers, ADHD, anxiety, depression and PTSD, so as you can expect even small things can overwhelm me let alone all the things I'm missing in my life.

I'm single can't find a girlfriend..

I don't have any money..

I don't have any close friends..

Normally I can deal with these things, but sometimes it all gets on top of you.....

After all that I get constant rejections from subs I've lurked in for years but can't post to because my account is too new. Totally sucks

The world is so tipped against me

I just feel sometimes like every single thing is just made in a way that doesn't fit with me.

I find it very hard to make friends and bond with people due to people just flat out not knowing how to communicate with neurospicy folk. Then when I try and talk about my feelings in a sub dedicated to this things, I am not allowed to post there....

In a space I am supposed to feel safe and welcomed, I feel again like I am excluded from this big club I aint in. I try and make new connections and people just flat out don't even look at me, or online its a big door blocking my way

It's no wonder honestly why I have such bad depression and s.h. issues.....

Why does the world reject me so bad?
