Unexpected Wally #5 pink Mepps

Threw on a number 5 pink black fury because I have gotten big bass on it… I made a long cast along shallow drop off and she slammed it… This may well be the fish I lost the other night. While everyone is combat fishing jigging the depths on the Detroit River for the big spring run, I am finding walleyes in the strangest places eating the oddest baits… mepps for the win!!!!! Fun morning here, tight lines all!!!

Something was off, yet it was on….

There weren’t any bass at my usual shore spot, and when I walked up I startled a cormorant who was there in close fishing already… something was off… so after a few casts I was about to leave (only had 30min) and I shot one good long cast along the shore with the wind and this guy smashed it!!! Ripped a slew of drag on a couple powerful runs before I could see what it was and net him. Mepps double blade three rainbow trout pattern was the ticket in murky chop shallows… he was about 34” or so but I had to quickly get the needle nose in there and luckily I use a steel leader due to these breaking me off in the past…after he rested a minute he swam off very strong…tight lines!!!

Shooting for the moon…

I hit several nice largemouth and then lost a Bigass walleye at the net, on a big Mepps… fun hour at sunset!!! Except losing the walleye, my frying pan is sad…

Been using a rainbow trout pattern double blade Mepps three with a white bucktail this spring here in Michigan… this was the tenth cast at sunset, and then I left because my newly adopted hound dog is not acclimated to fishing for more than five minutes yet. lol
