Biggie smalls!

The spot has not given up many fish the past two weeks at all, really slow as the season heats up and demographics change. Usually I can hit a few largemouth here, but lately nothing. That all changed this morning… and reminded me why I come back! Sunrise, double blade number five rainbow trout Mepps… slow retrieve along bottom… casting out as far as I could, these fish hit within a few casts of each other… was still shook from first one when second one hit… gave a new lure like it to some guys to try as I left… cloud nine…what a great half hour at sunrise!!!

Melvin aka Smellish the feral oil refinery rescue says hey…

My wife brought him home before winter set in, he was living in a cardboard box under a trailer… he is the boss around here now… waiting on porch with grumpy derpy greetings whenever I arrive. He is quite affectionate until he is not. 🤪👍💙

Busy morning off…

Couple spots between errands…

Detroit River is lit…

Just a half hour after an errand with the Mepps…
Got hits on damn near every cast. As soon as I lost my steel leader on a snag and tied a spinner direct, of course I get a musky. Took several attempts to net him… need a wingman… lol

Sunset Tiger

I always walk the dog at the golden hour and take a few casts and different slots for bass depending on the wind direction. This is why I always rock a steel leader, maps double blade number five rainbow trout pattern for the win this time. After realizing what was going on in a tremendous fight, I managed to get him onto the ramp quickly unhooked the one fortunate hook in the upper deck have a bystander take quick pic and release. I guess the point is the golden hour really is something else! Tight lines everybody!

Sunset smallie

Always do well at the golden hour, though it seems the bite window is small some days… today I hit a good one!!! Mepps double blade size three rainbow trout pattern with white bucktail, reeled very slowly at an angle from out deep parallel to shore… tight lines!!!

Break time with Mepps

So I figured out there are bass to catch at work at the job I have been on, and have caught dozens of fish in the 1-2lb class. Threw a big pink Mepps at break for ten minutes today and hit a really nice fish… peeled drag and everything… tight lines!!!

Tonight was effin cool

Shifted colors to red and white blade Mepps 5 dressed…

Went out for an hour and went 3/4 with a personal best walleye and a top five smallie!!!

My spot is really showing me the way, and as I make adjustments with times and lures I am unlocking things!!!

The smallmouth hit like a HAMMER and immediately jumped three times, and for once I didn’t lose her. The largemouths I usually catch here are a totally different take and fight… the one fish I lost looked to be a walleye and took it slow as I reeled the last ten feet of line in, kinda short stroke and didn’t get a hookup… anyway, I am really gaining confidence in the low and slow retrieve which is super until the weeds take over in a few weeks…

Tight lines!!!!!
