Skyhammer is an impressive title! (Photo doesn’t do it justice bc I’m using RF - my Jag AV cable went out on me) But it’s rare and expensive unless you have a GameDrive.

Why all the hate for Trevor McFur? …I find it to be a competent shmup (nothing groundbreaking, but not nearly as bad as ppl say)

This was a game I avoided as a kid after being burned by Club Drive (the box fooled me), so I stayed away from this one after that bc of the reviews.

However now, as an adult, I grabbed a GameDrive and am able to finally play it on original hardware (the way I like to play retro games, emulated on a flash card or not).

I find that while it’s not the greatest title in the Jag library, and it’s definitely not in the top 10-15 games, but it’s definitely not near the bottom either.

By bottom-of-the -barrel Jaguar games, I mean titles like the aforementioned Club Drive, and Fight for Life, plus several others that are either awful, unplayable or a combination of both.

With Trevor McFur, maybe the hate it gets can be explained by its pace being a bit slower in pace than most shmups and there’s not a ton of enemy variety.

The graphics are also not half-bad and it’s so satisfying to shoot those asteroids (which have an almost 2.5D feel, as well as the enemy spaceships which look great as well).

Overall, the graphics are actually very good for the Jaguar and for the time it was released (1993) and I think it’s the type of pseudo-2.5D that the Jag does very well, as opposed to 3D…which it only seems to do well when it comes to FPS games, at least in its limited library (which was cut WAYY too short).

But overall, this one is decent. Anyone else think so?

EDIT: Also, the characters are bizarre and don’t make any sense. Like why is Trevor a Space Lion? (or Tiger or whatever he’s supposed to be) lol.

Playing The Suffering for Xbox (on my 360) for the first time and not only does it stand the test of time, but it’s genuinely terrifying and the gameplay is awesome! This one DESPERATELY NEEDS a Remake!

I got lucky and found Complete copies of both The Suffering and its sequel, The Ties that Bind for OG Xbox at Goodwill for under 5 Bucks Each! And they play great on my 360! I’m loving the story so far and the atmosphere is genuinely TERRIFYING! Anyone else familiar with this series? This is Top-notch Survival Horror (even by today’s standards, IMO) if you aren’t familiar with these games.

They both dropped towards the end of the Xbox’s life cycle (2004 & 2005, respectively) and at least the sequel could have technically come out for the 360 since it dropped the same year that the 360 launched, but I don’t think they made a 360 version of either game.

Why is my Atari Jaguar one of my most prized possessions? (along with other obscure consoles I own like TG-16 & 3DO, but the Jag has always been my fave) Sure, in 1993 it was slightly ahead of its time but it’s not like it was particularly groundbreaking. It was def better than reviewers said it was

I’ve always loved the Jaguar and I cherish my collection. And it’s not like I had some nostalgia from when I was young with the 2600 to explain why I latched onto Atari. I was too young for the 2600. My first console was the NES; I got it the same year the SNES launched. Anyway, I also had a Jag CD back in the day… and lots more games than I do now.

I wish I hadn’t sold my Jag CD and games decades ago. Back in the day, I was the only kid that had a Jaguar until my friend copied me and bought one too (as an investment), since we figured that due to it’s obscurity (even back then), that it would be worth quite a bit one day, and we were right.

The Jaguar I own now I paid around $400 for but it included a Jaguar GameDrive which has every game ever released for it on a flash cart. For that reason I felt it was worth it. Back in the late 90s I think I spent $30 for a brand new Jaguar and roughly the same amount for a brand new Jag CD console (came bundled with games too).

Nowadays, a used working Jaguar will run you at least $400 to $500 and up. A working CD unit will run you at least a thousand, which is insane considering that there are basically zero games even worth playing on it. Iron Soldier 2 (which also happens to have a cart version on the regular Jag already lol), a decent port of Primal Rage and Battlemorph are about all that it has to offer. Everything else in its dozen game library is pure rubbish.

All that said, I would love to still own a Jag CD console. I would pick up some of the home-brew games that have been made for it over the years. The GameDrive has some Jag CD titles on it, but those particular games don’t work very well, or at all. I’m also super stoked that the Jag still has a thriving home-brew community and new games are still coming out to this day!

Some of the home-brews are supposed to be incredible, like the recently released platformer “Jumping at Shadows” that came out in 2024. I’m going to order it from Songbird. It looks amazing and has great reviews. They make quality games. I recently ordered a copy of Atari Karts from them (one of my favorite Jaguar games) that they remade recently, but it’s considered an official release since Atari authorized it.

Everything about Atari Karts by Songbird looks like the original except they printed the instruction manual in color, rather than the black & white original, so it’s actually better than the original release (and hundreds cheaper). An original copy (which I owned back in the day) of Atari Karts runs for over $500 complete nowadays, as it’s pretty rare. The Songbird Productions version isn’t cheap either, at $90 (plus tax and shipping) but way more reasonable than hunting down an original copy on eBay.

Does anyone else have a thing for the Jag? I bought the new Atari VCS 800 and their new 7800+ and I love em’ both but I always find myself going back to the Jaguar more often than any other Atari console.

Just got Terminator Resistance Enhanced for PS5 in the mail! …Currently playing RoboCop Rogue City: Unfinished Business and it’s incredible! I really hope Resistance lives up to the hype I have for it since it’s made by the same company that created the masterpiece that is RoboCop Rogue City!

I finished Rogue City recently and I hafta say, it’s one of the most original FPS games I’ve ever played. It’s refreshingly AA all the way and not trying to be some bloated AAA blockbuster wanna be. It’s also got the 80s and early 90s vibe/energy of the series down perfectly.

As a MUCH bigger fan of the Terminator series than I’ve ever been of RoboCop, I was super excited to hear that the developer, Teyon, was involved in a terminator game after playing the masterpiece that is Rogue City (and it’s equally impressive Sequel/ Standalone DLC Rogue City Unfinished Business, which I’m playing right now and absolutely loving it!).

I’ve learned to temper my expectations when it comes to the Terminator though; I’ve been let-down CONSTANTLY with sub-par and crappy games that could’ve done so much more with such an awesome franchise. Yes, an open world LA set between the events of T1 & T2 (or during) would be my ultimate Dream game, but I’ve read this game has some areas to explore and some stealth, even if it is linear.

I’m super excited to FINALLY have a REAL Terminator gaming experience!

My F.E.A.R. Collection… (new to the series; starting with F.E.A.R. 1 today)

I had F.E.A.R. 3 also on PS3, but I think my only copy was destroyed in the hurricane a couple yrs back (along with my Backwards Compatible PS3), but I may have another copy on either PS3 or 360 floating around. Is it worth looking through a bunch of boxes to potentially find it, or just order it?

I’ve heard a lot of ppl say not to even bother with the 3rd game, yet I’ve also seen a small minority that put it 1st or 2nd in their ranking.

It’s just one of those series that I’ve owned various copies of over the years, just never bothered to actually play any of them. I keep hearing that it’s one of the best games from the 7th Gen era that hasn’t been remastered or remade yet, even though it’s worthy of a remake from what I’ve read (at least the first game).
