Is it this way everywhere, or just the store where I work?

You get pulled in fifteen different directions to help other departments and then get yelled at for not accomplishing your assigned tasks. I have been offered a position with more responsibility (not management, just another position in addition to the one I already have, and performing this task on different days) and I am hesitant because this seems to happen a lot at my store and people have left because of it.

How long was this?

I just started watching on Amazon Prime. I am on season one episode 6. I have noticed that each episode is over an hour long. When it originally aired, including commercials, it would have been about two hours, right? So, were the original Columbo episodes two-hour TV
prime time movies?

131 at West River

Is that crater repaired yet? I’ll be on I-96 Westbound Tuesday afternoon and in the past I’ve found that the backup has gone all the way from the 131 exit to Plainfield Ave. Just wondering what to expect.

Clearance question

I was shopping at my local Hobby Lobby today and happened to see these clocks on clearance. The one on the left for $11 was the one I liked best. I picked it up and found that there is a reason why the hands were in the 6:30 position. The hands were not fastened to the shaft. The nut that attached the hands to the shaft was at the bottom of the clock. Okay, that’s fixable. I turned the clock over to see how it came apart. THE GUTS WERE MISSING. There was no cover on the back of the clock mechanism and the all of the gears and the battery contacts were all gone. The entire clock mechanism would have to be replaced. I placed the clock in my cart, thinking I might be able to get it for a bigger discount. Before I was even finished describing the condition of the clock to the cashier, a manager flew over to her like a crow on a fresh carcass.

Manager: I can’t go any lower on the price.

Me: There is no way a battery could be installed

Manager: I don’t have a battery to test it

Me: I’m saying that there’s no way to install a battery. This entire mechanism has to be replaced.

Manager: I know the entire thing has to be replaced. I can’t go any lower on the price.

Me: No one is going to buy this clock like this

Manager: I still can’t go any lower on the price.

Me: Okay, then. I don’t want it.

Seriously, I would have bought it for $5 and purchased a new mechanism. Other stores would have either taken something for it rather than nothing or, better yet, placed the damn thing in salvage. Furthermore, what the hell was that clock doing on the same wall as the other WORKING clocks?!!?

Hobby Lobby people, why is this a thing?

Why is this not a thing?

Sandwich crackers, but with Graham Crackers and Chocolate Frosting in the center!!!! According to Google, no one currently makes them, so you have to make them yourself.

Shower heads

I prefer a handheld shower head for rinsing the shower after I scrub it, plus rinsing off parts of my body. (It began when I had a dog). I have been through at least five or six cheap plastic handheld shower heads in the past fifteen years. Where can I find a good shower head made of metal?

Credit for lottery

Some retailers allow customers to use credit cards for the purchase of lottery tickets. I truly wish Meijer was one of them. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve instructed my customers to “insert your chip and type in your PIN” only to have them completely ignore my instructions and tap the chip, or insert the chip and press the green button to bypass the PIN, or use their phone to pay, or worse yet, use an actual credit card, then I have to cancel the payment and say, “Ope, we need you to insert the chip and type in your PIN. We are not able to accept credit as payment for lottery tickets” and then further explain that, while your card may actually be a debit card, the only way available to process the payment is for the chip to be inserted and the PIN typed in, I might just have enough money to take a cruise to the South Pacific. The same applies to purchases of money orders and Western Union money transfers, but that’s just common sense that those cannot be purchased with credit cards, but we still sometimes need to explain how the card needs to be processed on the MSR.

I dreamt I caught hubby cheating on me

Background: We have been married for thirty-six years. My husband is a functioning alcoholic. He abstains when he needs to, and as we just laid my father to rest a couple of days ago, he’s been very kind and helpful to me and my mom in the two weeks since we found out my dad was dying (my dad had been ill for over a year.)

We returned home yesterday and he immediately began drinking. In fact, in the four hours between the time we arrived home and the time we ate dinner, he’d had ten beers. I had two, and then I was ready to begin unpacking and set about getting some chores done. The more I worked, and the more he drank, the more disgusted I became with him, tho I tried not to let it show and chose not to make a big deal of it. He probably sensed it, but nothing was said. So, by the time we ate, he was good and drunk. Then he brushed his teeth and passed out in bed while I stayed up to wash dishes and set up coffee for the morning.

This morning he went to work and I went back to bed, as I have one last day of bereavement from my job and I was exhausted. That’s when I dreamt.

I dreamed I had come home to the sounds of music and laughter in our bedroom. I opened the door to find my husband naked and our cats running around on the bed, and then up popped the naked hussie, about ten or fifteen years younger, about my height but with nicer more rounded boobs. I asked, “What’s going on?” (Dumbass question, I know, but isn’t that what anyone would ask in this situation?)

She asked, “Who the fuck are you?”

I contemplated punching her in the gut, but she really wasn’t the one at fault here, so I refrained, and my gaze turned to hubby. He just stood staring at the window, clearly in an effort to avoid eye contact.

As the hussie pushed past me to leave, I woke up.

Not only was I very disturbed by this dream, I also considered the way he was staring away from me at the window. I believe that, in the dream, he wasn’t avoiding eye contact because he knew he’d been busted. He was angry. He was relishing the fact that he had gotten some kind of revenge on me.

This isn’t the first such dream I’ve had. Once I dreamed that we had gone to a bar together, and he left with another woman. As they walked past me on their way out the door, he looked right at me with total disdain and contempt, and continued on out the door with his hand on the behind of the woman.

I tend to have these dreams when something in our marriage isn’t right. I feel when we’re “off” and his drinking usually precipitates that feeling, so I try to keep busy and do my own things when he drinks rather than engage him in any conversation that might turn into an argument. However, yesterday we did converse, as I wanted to relax a bit from the stress. Our conversation was mostly centered around my parents, and I wasn’t comfortable with the way he was focusing on a subject that we’ve already been so immersed in for the past several months, so I left the conversation with an uneasy feeling. Added to that his drunkenness and I believe that’s why I dreamt.

Thoughts are welcome.

1972 Ranch Style Home

My parents bought a 1972 Ranch style home in 1977 and still live in it. The family who built it lived in it for five years and sold it. Hubby and I are speculating on reasons why someone would build a brand new home and only spend five years there before unloading it. Here are our possible reasons:

  1. The basement leaked. My dad said he was told that the basement walls were poured in the rain.

  2. Electric heat in the ceiling. I mean, hasn’t it been a well-known scientific fact for centuries that heat rises? How was it even a thing? Who thought it was a good plan? Who thought it was even affordable?

  3. Drafty windows, which leads us back to number 2

  4. Poor construction of fireplace chimney. You’d think you’d be warmer with a fire in the fireplace, but the smoke didn’t escape up the chimney, the heat did.

All these issues have since been fixed and the home is very comfortable now. But it makes me wonder, especially about the heating system.

What did I buy?

So, I went shopping at my store and looked at my receipt later. This one item had me befuddled so I plugged the UPC into the Meijer app. This is too funny. We should make this a thing like the lost recipes, when you see something on a receipt that you can’t decipher.

Poisonous litter?

I met a lady the other day who told me that litter that includes baking soda can kill your cat. Both breathing it in and licking their paws after they’ve been to the bathroom can harm them is what she said. She had accidentally picked up cat litter that had baking soda in it and she was returning it to the store. I was flabbergasted. I mean, if it’s that dangerous then why is it sold in the first place? I get that too much baking soda can be harmful to anyone not just cats. So, is there any truth to this whatsoever?
