Insurance premium going up for accidents I wasn’t in?

Sorry for any grammatical errors, I’m using voice to text because I’m on mobile.

I recently got quoted by progressive for car insurance. Per month they want a little over $500 with also wanting 2500 about for six months. This was a jump from what was like 1300 before they pulled some kind of report.

Here’s the backstory to see if maybe someone here can help me understand .

The car belonged to my grandmother . My grandmother had me and my two younger siblings and an uncle listed as insured drivers on this car. The Uncle, who was on the policy essentially had gotten to two different accidents with that vehicle and my younger brother had multiple traffic violations and other street violations apparently that also caused the previous insurance to go up. Hence why they are no longer allowed to use the vehicle and the current plan is to transfer over into my name so I could start paying the insurance on it since I currently have semi-ownership over it because I use it for work and school.

The issue start here because after they did the report, the price jumped by almost $1000 and I’m confused because yes I’ve technically only have had my license for four years but I have a clean drivers record. I have no violations I went to driver school, which, when I went, I was told would result in cheaper insurance. Progressive is claiming that there’s something that popped up on the report that they can’t tell me what it is, but that something is what resulted in the large price increase.

I’m probably gonna try to find cheaper options and I already went to the site that progressive gave me to go get the information or report that they said they got and I’m just waiting to receive that but what could’ve caused us this jump inprice because if it’s the accidents, why would I be affected? Not only was I not in the car or the driver when it happened. I wasn’t even living at the house at the time.

Like this is all still new to me, but I don’t know what to do essentially . It didn’t help that my grandmother was there and was talking over me the entire time and then insurance agent also wasn’t listening to me so I honestly don’t even know what information they took down at this point, but I can’t get rid of the insurance yet because I need it for my job

Is there something I can do while I wait to get the report back that they said they were going to send because the cost they’re asking for is more than my car payment and it doesn’t make sense to pay more insurance than I do for the actual vehicle?

Like I understand the concept of like if you get into an accident, your insurance is higher if you have like a bad drivers record, your insurance is higher, but I have neither of those and I’m merely opening up my own policy after being on a previous policy surely I shouldn’t have to pay the penalty of the actions of the people who who essentially had the car before me or is it because I was on that policy I’m considered complicit with their actions and the effect they have on the insurance?

Sealed copy of Kenzan at thrift?

Hi! I was hoping someone on here could help me figure out what region my Kenzan game was from.

I was at savers a couple days ago (meant to post this but got sidetracked) but I found what I believe to be a sealed copy of Yakuza Kenzan!

At first I was skeptical but the lady who works there sees me come in a lot for the games, Which they lock in a glass case, and let me inspect it first.

I’m not an expert by any means but do like to collect copies of games, especially if they’re different versions/editions.

The thing that got me was the PlayStation tear strip that was still intact in the bottom.

The copy I’ve had for a couple of years is on the left and has the region information on it while the one I found at savers is on the right which doesn’t. One also says for home use while another says for Japan only.

What’s the difference? I can’t seem to find a clear answer online. I even checked my other Japanese games, both yakuza and non-Yakuza and they all say “For Japan Only”

The only clue I saw was that it might be a Korean copy but to my knowledge Kenzan was Japan only?

Weird partial box set found at savers

Was at savers today and found this partial of a box set. I looked around and could seem to find the other seasons.

I normally find pieces of the others like the classic multicolored one but this one has the discs individually wrapped and the text looks to be in Chinese in the back.

My friend that works there said that it might be a fake copy but I still thought it was an interesting find. I can’t find anything about it online though and was wondering if this kind of box looked familiar to anyone?

Can’t find song and only remember the cover art and a few words

I’m sorry I know this is a long shot but it’s currently 2am and I’ve been desperately searching for this song I used to listen to in high school. I don’t think it was by a popular artist or at the very least was a lesser known track of one.

When I found it was a random YouTube upload with the word Rare 80s jpop and a japanese word following the title. The cover are was a blue haired anime girl in a beach setting with the art style being similar to urusei yatsura. There’s a high chance that it was either an anime outro or intro/fanart from or found by the uploader.

I remember it being upbeat and the singer had a higher pitched voice. The lyrics my boy/ you’re my boy/boy were a part of the song but it was mostly in Japanese. I believe it had a tropical/beachy feel hence the cover art used.

I used to listen to it everyday and after looking through all my accounts for music I can’t find it and was hoping someone knows what I might be talking about. Most of the songs I’m finding thinking it’s it start off slow and solemn and are sung by artists with deeper tones.

It’s likely lost to time now but if anyone here has an inkling of what I might be looking for please give your input. I apologize for the lack of info I’m still racking my brain for any other identifying factors.

How long should I wait for my nails to grow out before I get a new set of acrylics?

Hello, I was just wondering how long should I wait for my natural nails to grow out before getting a new set of acrylics?

I got my nails done for the second time in almost 10 years for my college graduation. I love the design and the nail tech did a great job. I told the nail tech that I would love to come back, but since I was also still working in food and customer service, I said once I find a new job, I would definitely be coming back.

Both jobs were pretty intense on my hands with Me, having to constantly lift heavy objects or pry things apart, resulting in the nails, which lasted a good three weeks before they started to lift due to me constantly hitting my hand or accidentally bending them when grabbing something.

As a result, it reach a point where I just pried them off because they were getting a bit uncomfortable and we’re pretty grown out at the time anyways. I understand that normally they’re soaked off. I’m sorry I’m just so impatient and was getting irritated by my own clumsiness that was causing me to constantly hit my hand and nails 😭.

It’s been a couple weeks by now and my nails are half grown in at this point and I have been thinking of getting another set because I finally got a job where it’s in an office setting so I won’t have to do the same tasks as before that were causing the injuries.

And grown, and I just meant like the filed part that was filed to set acrylic (I think?)

I was just wondering if I should still wait or if it would still be safe to get a new set if possible?

But overall, it’s just that I don’t know how long to wait in between sets because I know sometimes people get them done one after the other, but that’s likely because they’re doing the proper way of soaking it off which results in lesser damage than I caused 💀

Self study tips and resources

Hello, I have just scheduled myself to take the LSAT this September. I was originally going to do August but saw that a month isn’t really enough to study.

I took it once last year without studying beforehand to get a feel of what to expect and scored a 137. I’ve never been great at taking tests but know that I do exponentially better on the second try due to studying (which I know sounds redundant but it’s because I normally try to get a feel the first time around)

I am horrible at studying and I’m used to the standard memorizing and flash cards the night before and after taking the LSAT I learned that my usual methods would not be effective since it’s more about reasoning than actual memory and terms like the tests I’m used to.

I got a LSAT study guide off of amazon and I’m struggling. I don’t know what I’m supposed to be looking at half the time and I know they say not to use common sense but half the time I see no logical way half the answers would apply just for them to somehow be the right answer.

Some of the sites that I’m finding aren’t very helpful because they all say different things for the same subject so I feel like I’m always getting the wrong answer

I would love to hire a tutor but I can’t afford it so I’m leaning towards online sources. It would be easier for me to pay for a course one time than to pay someone hourly.

My goal is to do well enough this time around so I can get into law school by next fall but I’m really stuck on where to start. I graduated with a 3.7 this past spring so I have that kind of going for me meaning I just need to get a high enough score on the test to hopefully get into a decent law school in my state.

Are there any tips or sites that you guys would recommend? Any study habits that helped? Any advice would be much appreciated

How to build/find a PC as a complete beginner?

Hello, I understand that this is a common question that is asked here but even after going through some posts I still don’t know where to start.

I’ve always played on console but always wanted a Pc so I could do cool things like mod different games as well as have a better experience playing games that were meant for PC, like playing sims 4 on a computer instead of a ps4. While the sims isn’t as system intensive (if that’s the right term?) I would like for it to run more “graphic heavy” games (like Resident evil vs stardew valley) without reaching the brink till it combusts due to overheating. The current computer that I used is a HP laptop I used through college and now constantly overheats and is suffering from screen burn. It had a good run and got me to graduation but I think it’s time to let go 🥲.

I’m finally done with college and have the space to finally build one but I have no experience in the area at all, I just recently figured out how to put a PS3 together after taking it apart without breaking it so maybe that’s a start 😅

I also want to be able to play games that are often only accessible in their old PCROM forms as well as perform certain functions like burning cds of possible. Along with that a system that can be used for day to day functions like work/school work would be great.

Cosmetically I’m not too sure at the moment, but maybe a standard clear case with lights like I often see online?

As for budget I don’t necessarily have one because I don’t know the standard prices for everything I would need and don’t want to risk getting ripped off and also don’t know what would be better; one already made vs custom?

I guess custom would be better because you can always switch out parts to upgrade no?

I would say I’m leaning towards custom more because I’ll probably have more specifics planned down the line and I want to have the hands on experience. I also think it would be fun.

There’s a micro center an hr from where I live and I only found out about the store today. I’ve heard of stores that help you build a pc but didn’t know of any were in my area. Also with the cost of RAM rising idk how feasible everything may be.

So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or tips? Things like the avg cost to expect of a whole system vs individual parts, what brands to get and which ones to avoid, as well as recs in getting through the process.

My plan if possible is to buy things piece by piece (depending on total cost) like buying less urgent pieces, like for example (and please correct me if I’m wrong) if something more “time sensitive” like a graphics card or an item that always has a new upgrade on the market, then I could hold off on buying it immediately and instead focusing on parts like the case, fans, wiring, etc.

Once again I understand that this is likely asked a lot but any feedback would be appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to include that having enough storage is importantl, I’ve always struggled with having enough storage on my devices. I’m familiar with external storage devices 😭
EDIT II: budget of 1k-1.5k if possible?

Update to PS3 won’t play modern discs post: IT WORKS

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/s/YRaQc6gKPs

GUYS I DID IT!

Apologies for the mess, I have a couple projects going 😅

But thank you for all the help and suggestions, after looking up a quick tutorial to dismantle the entire console, the laser was FILTHY and after a quick wipe down and dusting my blu-rays would load!

I was even able to play through the first mission with no issues and the disc drive isn’t making that weird noise I mentioned anymore.

I know it’s a small thing but I’m proud that I was able to do it and now have the knowledge to clean my other PS3. Last and only console I ever tried to fix was my DSi and it’s currently sitting on a shelf not being able to turn on 🥲

Outside of the laser, the console is in great condition, only had one game on it when I booted it up after purchase and even that didn’t have much data on it.

Maybe I’ll try to learn to mod this one

But thanks again to those on here who helped!

EDIT: only issue is that it won’t connect to wifi but I’m not too worried about that honestly

Ps3 can run dvds and older games (launch titles) but not newer ones?

Hello, I was hoping is anyone could give more insight on a (small) problem I’m having.

I got a ps3 on FB marketplace for $35. It was cheaper compared to the others in my area and chances were if there was an issue I could use it as a learning experience or trade it in to GameStop cuz I recently found out they use defective consoles for parts for their refurbished ones

I bring it home and it turns on fine, I do the factory reset which tool the entire day causing the fan to be incredibly loud, which I chalked up to how dirty the console was as well.

While I should’ve checked this before I cleaned the inside, it seems there seems to be an issue with reading discs.

I don’t think it’s something I did because I only cleaned the fan (was caked with years worth of dust) and didn’t touch anything else in fear of causing accidental damage.

It will play dvds and older PS3 games, with a delay, but newer games it will not load or eject at times requiring me to turn it off and on again.

For example I used a launch title of Dead Space and a movie (Devils Advocate if you want to know) and it seems to run with no issues, just a delay when the game is first put in, but RE:Revelations 2 will not load at all. The only difference is that one is older than the other, both discs are otherwise clean with no scratches.

The inside also makes a variety of noises like one that sounds like a belt going back and forth or a clicking sound like something is hitting the inside when a disc is in it but I don’t think it’s the fan.

I have no technical knowledge whatsoever when it comes to stuff like this and just wanted to learn in case anything happens to my Main PS3. If it’s a drive issue I feel that I might be able to replace it myself

Edit: I lied, while the older games and movies with load they will freeze constantly 💀

I think I’m gonna open it up again and go deeper to see if I would have to replace the drive completely or maybe I just have to adjust or clean something but once again any input is welcome please 😭

Update to how to fix caulk in shower post

Still have to clean up the dirt but I think it looks a lot better than the before. (Ignore the paint can my back and knees were starting to kill me during scraping the old
off 😭) I tried my best for with the upper walls but it just wasn’t coming off and I had already used almost the entire bottle of the caulk remover. When I was peeling it away it had rings like tree with how many layers my
Grandma had applied 💀

How to fix caulk in shower

Hello, my grandma got the house renovated a while ago but one ongoing issue is the shower in her bathroom. According to her it was the guy who installed it that did this resulting in it cracking but after cleaning the bathroom, I found a tube of caulk that she had clearly been using to try to fix the issue herself instead of asking for help from one of our family members or even professional help. There’s no way for me to contact the original person because she does tend to go with. “ unofficial.” Companies to save money. ( there are more issues around the house, but the bathroom is the biggest one at the moment.) I was wondering if there was a way to somehow like fix this at home and if there was a way to remove her work so to say. This bathroom is right above a bedroom that often suffers from the leaks that come from the bathroom above it. I’m pretty sure it’s because she used the wrong kind cause this is like the more cement like one and not like the rubber one that should be sealing that. Like is there a way for me to remove the old caulk and replace it with the right kind in order to fix it?
