New to Nikon - think I'll stay
Recently ordered a Z8 with the 180-600 as I brought my FujiFilm gear to its limits.
I enjoy the realiability of the AF but the ergonomics are my absolute highlight.
Has someone switched from a Fuji X-H2S to a Nikon Z8 for Wildlife/Birds?
If so, did you really notice a difference in autofocus or was it more nuanced? Unfortunately, I have no chance to rent longer focal lengths for a longer time to test it. And do you miss Pre-Capture RAW?
I really think I maxed out the keeper rate of the Fuji but perhaps it’s also my GAS masking a skill issue.
Can you help me with choosing my new wildlife setup?
This will be a longer text, so thanks for going through it.
I've been shooting a variety of cameras in the last 20 years and for the first time in my life I have the feeling that not I am the limiting factor but my camera is. You probably guessed it - I shoot birds on FujiFilm (X-S20 with 150-600).
In general, I managed to get quite a lot good shots but recently there were just too many moments where the AF confirmed it hit and it wasn't there. Also it struggles a lot with overheating.
So this is where my main problem comes in - there are too many options, but none of them feel totally right. I also shoot professionally (people, video, commercial) with a Sony A9III, A7V and Canon R5II but these cameras belong to my employer but I could rent them from time to time.
Also, what I totally love about the Fuji is that the setup is very lightweight and I can use the camera also for travel and family photography easily. Also, Fuji-colors are very pleasant to work with, at least compared to the other cameras I use regularely.
So, long story short - here are the options I thought of:
**1 FujiFilm:** the easy one - sell the X-S20 and get a X-H2S. Thing is, I don't trust Fuji anymore regarding wildlife and this camera also seems to overheat more easily than others. Also, just a minor complaint: I prefer tiltable screens.
**2 Sony:** I just don't like the Sony APS-C bodies. So that leaves me with full-frame. Lens selection is very fine, I could use the A9III from work from time to time. But I would loose reach with the 200-600. The A1II is too expensive and the A7RIV or V are not the fastest ones out there.
**3 Canon:** The R7 would be the perfect APS-C body, if we ignore the rolling shutter and the screen. I could live with that, also I could use our R5II from time to time. But I really don't like their tele options. The 200-800 feels cheap to me and doesn't handle that well (Spoiled by my Fuji 150-600, I know), the 100-500 is expensive and costs reach and the other options are out of my league, price-wise. I also read that older lenses don't adapt that well, but not sure if this is true.
**4 Nikon:** I guess the obvious choice. Great lenses, good upgrade options, could also get older Nikon lenses quite cheap. I am also not the biggest fan of the Z50II but the Z8 or the Z6III would be suitable options. The Z6III is dirt cheap for what it offers, but I lose quite some reach. The Z8 on the other hand sounds like the perfect deal, but it is a behemoth. Which could also be pro, because I don't look that much after my cameras and it feels really rugged.
Soooo...am I overlooking something? Are there any cheaper options I am not aware of? I don't have the money to go all-in on some 600/4 options, so I am more looking at a pro-body with something in the 200-600 range and the option to upgrade lenses later on.
Right now my bet would be a used Z8 with the 180-600 for birding and the 24-120 for everyday use.
If you are still here - thanks for reading! And also thanks for anyone that can help clear my thoughts.
**(1) Budget, country, and currency:**
5-6000€ max, Austria, Euro
**(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs?**
FujiFilm X-S20, XF 150-600 and a few shorter primes and zooms
**(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot?**
Wildlife, especially birds and everyday stuff like family and travel
**(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both?**
Photography first, I do a few smaller video projects but any modern camera should be capable of what I need

Geld anlegen ohne wirkliches Ziel
Lightroom won't show up in Creative Cloud
I have a pretty odd problem.
I am working with Creative Cloud for years, provided by my employer.
I have installed various Adobe applications on my work laptop and my private MacBook. I also work with a windows workstation that has the whole suite installed.
Now the funny thing happens: Lightroom doesn't show in Creative Cloud on the workstation, while I have it installed on the other two devices flawlessly. Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, After Effects - no problem. But there just is no Lightroom.
When i search for it in the Creative Cloud app I can click on "More" - and nothing happens.
Most of our IT is on vacation so I won't bother them when there maybe is an easier solution. Any idea on why this happens?
Nachtreiher und Nachwuchs in der Nachbarschaft
Kurzfristige Hundepension gesucht
Finally a worthy capture - great crested grebe
Took its mouth a bit too full but managed to swallow it after 5 minutes.
