Almost 30 with no savings and I feel embarrassed about it, but I can't help spending the money I have

So I appreciate this is probably less of a financial advice question as it is a personal/psychological question. I'm 29 now and I'm on an above average wage (52k), and yet I have less than £1000 in savings.

The problem isn't really that I'm 'bad' with money in that I get myself into bad financial situations. Sadly I do rent but other than that, I'm completely debt free, and always spend within my means. I'm in the perfect position to be able to start saving money. But I spend pretty much to the limit of what I can and save very little of it.

I've never been able to break the cycle of enjoying all the money I've got, being materialistic and making impulsive purchases that I probably don't need.

It kind of grates on me because all my friends are doing well with mortgages and lots of savings, even though I know it's entirely my own doing. I'm wondering if anyone has been the same what helped them to change their habits.

Question about sound absorption panels and placement

So I'm planning to place some panels on the back wall behind the MLP, since the sofa is pushed against the wall. So I want to try and control the reflections off that wall.

In terms of aesthetics it would be best to place two panels side by side (3 likely won't fit with most panels I'm looking at). That would leave a gap between the two panels, maybe 6-12 inches, right where the middle seat is. My question is, when your head is only a few inches from the wall, is a gap like that going to be noticeable acoustically? Or does the coverage overall make that kind of thing negligible?

For reference my space is not that big - about 9.5 feet wide with the actual ear-speaker distance being around 7ft.

How low is too low for the centre speaker?

So I've always been bothered by the height of my TV and I want to fix it. It's a 65 inch with the bottom about 25" from the floor (TV centre around 42"). That's not particularly high, however I have quite a low sofa and I only sit about 8' away, so I perceive it to be a bit higher than I'd like.

I was thinking of putting the centre speaker down on a shelf in the unit. At the moment though, I have a Q650c which is too wide to fit so I can't test it. However, I'm soon going to be replacing my LR with Monitor Audio Silvers, and will be getting a centre to match.

So without being able to test it it's difficult to decide which centre to go for. My options are:

MA Silver C150 - Nice and compact so sit it on top of the unit and gain about 2-2.5" of TV height. Not bad.

MA Silver C250 - Roughly the same height as the Q650c but less wide so it can fit in the unit. That gives me as much TV height adjustment as I want.

Being that I'm somewhat close to the screen, I'm worried that having the centre that low would be too noticeable. The bottom of the speaker would be about 6" away from the floor, and quite aggressively angled up. However, I'm reluctant to compromise with the C150 as I hear the C250 is a really fantastic speaker with its 3-way design and whatnot. Curious what people's experiences are with this.

Song title on now playing?

I have the now playing widget set up but I've never been able to get it to show anything other than just the album art, no song title, artist etc. Is there a way to do it? I have the notification access enabled.

Bought my first CRT since I was a kid, my god this is cool

Found this 20 inch LG on marketplace for £50. Not sure how it compares to others but it works! I did not think it would look or feel this cool to have a retro setup like this.

Pitch Black pre order arrived. First pack...

I was practically speechless as I never have luck like this, especially on the first pack, and it's my first time pulling a top chase card.

Is this a good deal?

DC25 has given up and I am familiar with Miele and how good they supposedly are, but I don't know anything about this model really. I'm in a two bedroom flat that is about 80% carpets and I'm not sure how good this will be for the carpet pile.

[8 YoE] Software engineer wanting to change disciplines more towards infrastructure focused roles and struggling to get any responses/interviews.

As you can read from my CV I've been in EdTech (and a bit of finance) for 8 years as a software engineer. I'm wanting to get away from that and get in to a role like infrastructure engineer or similar. I'm just not sure how to position my resume towards that. I do feel that it's just not really working in general, because I have a slight variation on the same resume that I have also used to apply for other software engineer roles, and I am also getting no responses or interviews there either.

I'm in the UK and have tried a mixture of applying to remote (UK) jobs and local hybrid roles. I am simply targeting any industry I can at the moment. The job market definitely feels way worse than last time I job hunted - I used to get LinkedIn recruiters tripping over each other in my messages, and there just generally felt like a lot more opportunity. Having said that, I don't doubt my resume is the main thing holding me back in some way, I'm just not sure how. I've edited it and tried different formats many times and nothing seems to stick.

Aiming to furnish my living room in a kind of mid century, space age, playful retro style. I think it's a good start but I feel like the grey sofa is working against me, and I can't quite bring it all together. Any tips appreciated!

and also generally, what tips would you have for this space? the rest of my room is going for a mid century retro kind of feel.
