Do you feel like you are missing anything when reading the books vs the webserial? I'm asking because I kind of want to actually read the books, but don't want to miss out on the different colored texts and hidden text and formats and stuff.

Weightloss Surgery and FND?

So I have been diagnosed with FND for a couple years now, but the past year it has been pretty dormant. (Only started rearing it's ugly head again after drinking green tea for a bit of caffeine, so stopped that immediately). I've been considering weight loss surgery because I've tried counting calories, keto, I just can't do it. My hunger is absolutely out of control. If I let myself get too hungry it can also trigger FND. It hadn't done this in a long time but happened yesterday. So this got me thinking, would weight loss surgery even be possible? Have any of you had it? Did it help with your symptoms, make them worse, or did they stay away if you were dormant?

Help with grammar please!

I just learned how to use an em dash, however I'm not sure which punctuation to use in this case:

Khyra looks behind her to see how far—or close—the bear was.

Khyra looks behind her to see how far, or close, the bear was.

Khyra looks behind her to see how far...or close...the bear was.

Shouldn't I make something bad happen here since I had a hit and matches?

@ Delve the Depths
d: 1d6+1=2 vs 10 | 10
-> Miss and a match
=> Roll for danger -> Overzealous hunter

? What feature does this area have?
d: 1d100=96
-> Something unusual or unexpected

They didn’t make it far into the forest before Meela suddenly arches her back, fur standing on end, hissing. Khyra heard them before she saw them. Wolves, running this way. She tenses, unsure if she should run or stand her ground. It sounds like a pack. They burst through the trees and before Khyra has a chance to react they…run past her?

Confused Khyra turns around to watch them go, but freezes in her tracks when she hears the loudest roar she’s every heard. Slowly she turns back around and beholds the most terrifying, majestic sight she’s ever seen. An elder bear. The thing was monstrously huge and standing on it’s hind legs. Khyra was completely frozen in fear and awe.

Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when published

? Does the elder bear attack?
-> (50/50) 1d100=14 -> No

The bear stands there, staring at her, it’s nose twitching as it smells the air. Slowly it lowers to all fours and starts heading towards her. Every instinct in her body was telling her to run, every fiber was being forced to ignore that instinct. If she ran, it would probably chase like it did those wolves.

She had heard legends of these great beasts, they were said to be guardians of the forest. She honestly didn’t even believe they were real, just stories you told children before sleep. The bears paws thud on the ground as it slowly made it’s way closer to her, huffs of breath coming heavily out it’s nose.

Khyra's Journey: Episode 1. A replayed/rewritten version of episode 1 that I posted on here before.

I went to replay the episode because I wanted to try and make the battle even more narrative and I think I succeeded. I'm shocked myself at where the dice took me this episode. This campaign is about self discovery. There are no plans, the dice will tell all. My content will be 100% free 100% of the time.

Redo of episode 1 battle scene. How did I do this time? Hopefully this time I did fiction first. Or if not then idk.

I didn't know how long it would be until my next fight scene, so I decided to redo the fight I already did and try to be more narrative. Obviously this is a much different outcome than last time lol.

Khyra didn't believe it, but she also couldn't let him keep tormenting her people.

@ Enter The Fray
d: 1d6+2=7 vs 5|9

Khyra raises her bow and knocked an arrow, aiming at the man burning her village. Not having enough time to properly aim, she lets the arrow fly.

@ Strike
d: 1d6+3=9 vs 8|3
-> Strong Hit

The arrow lands true, striking the stranger in the shoulder. He snarls angrily at Khyra. Before he can even react, Meela charges at him, claws at the ready.

@ Strike
d: 1d6+3=5 vs 7|3
-> Weak Hit

Her claws sink into his biceps, leaving a bloody trail as they rip downwards. Screaming, he kicks Meela away and draws his blade. Advancing on Khyra quick as lightening, he raises his sword to swing. Khyra stumbles backwards, almost falling into the side of her flaming hut.

@ Face Danger
d: 1d6+3=9 vs 6|8
-> Strong Hit

His blade starts to swing down but just before it hits, Khyra is able to spin her way out of harms way. With a whistle from Khyra, Meela launches herself back at the stranger as Khyra tries to get enough distance to be able to shoot.

@ Strike:
d: 1d6+3=6 vs 5|2

Meela pounced on him, taking him to the ground, her jaws clenched around his throat.

@ End the fight
d: 8 vs 9|5
-> Weak Hit

Blood spurts out of his neck, killing him almost instantly. A loud groan and a snap as a burning piece of hut comes slamming down on Meela. She yowls and leaps out of the way, thankfully not getting trapped. She's burned though, and Khyra comes running up to her. Meela hisses as Khyra goes to examine the wound, but it's all bluff.

Episode 1

This is the first episode in Khyra's journey. A few of you will recognize the battle scene because I've posted it before; however I wanted to post the whole scene for enjoyment and critique. Notes for future episodes, I will ditch lonelog for combat scenes and I will keep in mind all the tips from the combat post for future battles. If there is any interest in this, I shall continue to post episodes.

Khyra awoke to the screams of the other villagers and the yowls and rough nudgings of Meela, her cave lion she had rescued as a kitten when she had found her mewling next to her dead mother and stillborn siblings, the air thick causing her to cough. Wiping her bleary eyes and sitting up, she noticed the heat. Fire! She looked over to the corner where her parents sleep.

? Are her parents still asleep?

-> (Likely) No

? Did they wake up at the same time as her?

-> (Likely) Yes

They are just waking up themselves, the realization hitting them at the same time. Frantic, all three of them jump up and run out of their tiny hut, but not before Khyra grabbed her bow, arrows, and blade to deal with the threat, and are stunned at the sight that befalls them. Other huts burning down, people running and screaming, a man trapped under the fallen roof of his hut burned to death.

The stench of burning flesh and hair sickened Khyra. The smell alone should have woken her up. In the center of their little hamlet, a booming voice calls out.

? How many people attacked?

d: 1d6=1

"Give me Keelan, or I shall start murdering you on top of burning your homes!"

Keelan? The old man that had saved them from the brink of death during the winter? What could they want with him?

"What do you want with Keelan?" Khyra demanded stepping forward.

Her mother reached forward to stop her, but she didn't heed. Meela stayed by her side, growling lowly.

? Does he get intimidated by Meela?

-> (50/50) Yes

Visibily cowed by the sight of Meela, he takes a step back and exclaims "He has crimes to pay for!"

Khyra didn't believe it, but she also couldn't let him keep tormenting her people. Khyra raises her bow and knocked an arrow.

Khyra, struggling to take in breath from the pain, could barely hear Keelan as he came rushing over. "STOP!" He screamed. "That's enough of this violence!"

The man was about to try to stomp on her again, but his foot stopped mid-air as he heard Keelan. Putting his foot on the ground, he spit at Khyra before turning a smirk to Keelan.

"Look at what you caused!" He said, spreading his arms wide motioning to the burning hamlet.

"You admit your guilt then. Surrender and come with me to undo what you did or," Caldas lowered his sword, pointing it at Khyra who was still on the ground in agony. "I kill her. You're choice."

"Fine, but make it quick!" Caldas barked.

Keelan started chanting, tilting his head back and stretching out his arms, palms pointed towards the skies. It wasn't long before thunder cracked overhead and the rain started pouring down. This clearly took a lot out of the old man because he staggard backwards, hands on his knees, looking as if he were about to pass out. Before he could react, Caldas grabbed him by the arm and started marching.

"Come on old man, we got aways to go."

As the old man was practically dragged away, Khyra reached out for her blade wincing in agony.

As her parents came to run to her aid, she made a second vow; gripping the blade even harder, blood started dripping from her palm. "I also vow to help rebuild our home."

Okay thanks to all the comments on my previous post asking for help with understanding combat, I think I might understand now.

So I'm redoing my first combat with the advice given and this is the results using lonelog. Please let me know if I made any mistakes:

@ Enter the Fray
d: Action+2=7, Challenge=8,4
-> Weak Hit
=> Khyra prepares to act, aiming her bow and taking initiative.

@ Strike
d: Action+3=6, Challenge=9,3
-> Weak Hit
=> The arrow flies, striking her enemy. He engages her before she even has a time to react.

@ Clash
d: 1d6+3=5, 2d10=1,5
-> Weak Hit
=> Khyra is able to inflict damage, but doesn't gain the upperhand

@ Pay the Price: Endure Harm
d: 1d6+2=5, 2d10=8,1
-> Khyra presses on

@ Face Danger
d: 1d6+3=7, 2d10=8,1
-> Weak Hit
=> Khyra manages to just barely dodge his next attack and starting to think she may be in over her head. -1 spirit

@ Face Danger
d: 1d6+3=6, 2d10=7,3
-> Miss
=> He attacks to quick for her to be able to dodge again and she gets slashed at her side.

She is down to 1 health and 4 spirit. I'm not sure if I want to keep trying or have her yield. If I have her yield, how exactly do I do that? If I choose yield, I might change the slashing her side to punching her gut to knock the wind out of her and knock her to the ground, still enduring the harm.

Edit: For context, he's burning down her hamlet to get to the old man that joined their settlement shortly before winter. Her settlement wouldn't have made it through the winter without him (mystic). The guy razing her hamlet has come for justice though, because the mystic had cursed the hamlet this guy came from so they would suffer. I'm imagining that they did something wrong to him, but haven't got that far so the dice haven't told me yet lol.

Different combat system for Ironsworn?

I'm enjoying everything else (except maybe the vows) about ironsworn but absolutely hate the combat system. It's overly convoluted and just makes no sense to me coming from a dnd background. I want combat rolls to be quick, crunchy, simple.

Can someone dumb down combat for me?

Like I mean really dumb down, like I’m 5. I come from fnd and just can’t wrap my head around it. Like whats up with initiative? Why can’t my cat attack on top of me attacking? Whats the difference between strike and clash because the only difference I see is initiative and they’re just different names. Why do I have to pay the price on a failed face danger, isn’t taking harm price enough? I’m just extremely tempted to make my own rules up for the combat. For example:

Enter the fray will strictly be initiative.

Attack will just be that, no strike or clash but you’d still roll edge or iron depending on ranged or melee. On a strong hit you do full harm, weak is half, miss is none.

Face danger, or, in case of combat block, on a strong hit full block, weak hit, half damage, on a miss, full damage.

As for my cat also attacking, I feel like this would balance out the small amount of health players get, especially against epic foes.

As for the second skill of the cat where if you choose to attack with them, on a hit you gain 2 momentum, this can be balanced out by saying strong hit you get momentum.

I really don’t understand why it wasn’t this simple to begin with.

Traversing the Wilderness Help

I am getting beyond frustrated. To get straight to the point, I can't theater of mind, I have aphantasia. Methods I've tried:

  • Hex Crawling - I can't find a table or generator that generates natural looking terrain. A lot of them don't generate coasts, a lot of them don't generate rivers and paths (talking about tables here) and the ones that do it makes no sense.
  • Hex Map Generating with programs- using things like donjon world generator, watabou perilous shores, azgaar's world generator. I hate all of these. Donjon might be the closest I'm okay with, but I don't like how Pangea the world is. Watabou because it's terrain generation is limiting (it only does temperate) and I just hate how the terrain generates on the map no matter what settings you use. Azgaar, I hate the names it comes up with for places, the maps are so huge which is great, but you still don't know terrain or anything like that cause it's just flat colors.
  • Point Crawling - Something I think I would like to use but have no idea how to get started and I would still like an actual map to look at that's not just nodes. I would like to also be able to incorporate ironsworn's location oracles from the lodestar expanded book.

Please help me, this is the only thing keeping me from being able to continue.

Journaling in a binder, what to do when you start running out of room?

So I'm using a binder so I can have rules, oracle tables, actual play all in one thing. My question is, what do I do with the loose leaf paper when the binder starts to fill up? I don't want to just toss it, because what if something in session 50 brings up something that happened in session 1? For instance a npc I met in session 1 shows back up in 50? Or am I overthinking this?

Not sure what kind of table to roll on.

So I'm at a part in my story where she found who she thought was the killer, but it turns out he wasn't and is actually working with/for someone. However, I don't know what table I would use to generate this. I'm thinking more like a group of people like cultists or something due to the trophies the killer was taking was a black stone carved into the shape of a rabbit and I'm envisioning it meaning they were fertility charms given to the couples that were murdered years ago to help with conceiving and now that their children are adults they're being murdered for some reason. My character's parents were also murdered.

However, the story might go somewhere different if it's another group of people he's working with. Also a plot twist that came up was he was a childhood friend and she has a crush on him.

Okay so my first question is the combat boxes. I don't understand why there's a slash between 2 blanks like there is for the hp. Shouldn't melee, ranged, and armor just be 1 number?

Second question, I understand backpack, free to carry, and stored, but what about sack? What itmes would you put in that section?

Is this map too big or too small? I have a zoomed out version of the archipelago and a zoomed in region. I'm not sure if I want to do zoomed in regions, or just do the zoomed out whole archipelago. Scale is supposed to be 5 mile hexes.

I did use Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator to generate this map and just turned off all but the rivers.

Question about Scarlet Heroes

I'm noticing the encounter tables are missing a couple of monsters from the bestiary, Jaguars and Toyols (actually shuddered at their description) for instance. So if I'm rolling for encounters, how do I know if I run into one of these?

Another question is some of the monsters attack says weapon or a dice roll. What does weapon mean?

Also on at least one of them, the creepers, it says their damage is weapon -1?

How crazy would it be if I handwrote all the charts from the pdfs?

I can't afford physical editions and I don't have access to a printer at home, but would like to have a physical version. I also kind of want to make a master pdf with a reference sheet of the rules to the system I'm playing, and then just the oracles and tables I roll on from different systems. Sort of like mish mashing them. I do have a pdf editor that lets me add and remove pages, but again, no access to a printer without going to either my parents house or husbands parents.

Edit: Thanks for the encouragement guys, I don't feel so silly about it now. I'm going to get to writing.

Question for those that play Cartograph

I am wanting to play this game to make a map for Scarlet Heroes. I would like to hopefully make a full continent but that's besides the point rn. My question is, I need jungles for Scarlet Heroes and Cartograph doesn't seem to have jungles. I also have the 1st edition. Can't really afford the 2e right now, even though it's not much, funds are tight.

Another question is, the themes you roll for civilizations in Cartograph don't really seem to match the ones for Scarlet Heroes, so if you have any ideas on how to get around that, that would be great.
