Is there anyway to make fried chips/fries without an air fryer?

Hey everyone, so I've had a big ol potato sitting in my fridge for about a week now and I wondered if I could make chips with it?

I have a special cutter that lets me turn the potato into sheets, olive oil, a pan and heat, thats all you need right?

I dont have a thermometer though so im gonna have to babysit the oil to make sure it doesnt burst into flames, im average in cooking, I mostly just cook for myself so, if its a little burnt or a little undersalted its not the end of the world

can anyone help me out here?

What happens if a pilot gets denied entry into a country they just landed at?

Fairly self explanatory, im an aspiring pilot, but my friend just asked me this question and I didnt know how to respond, have you ever gotten denied entry into a country/had migration issues during your trips? if so what happened? did you have to fly back to your country of origin on the next flight?

Buenos Aires-Ezeiza to Bogotá in the much anticipated Avianca Airbus A330-900

I also posted this on twitter and tagged Avianca as a half-serious half-joking petition to get them to use this livery again

Clear Skies for all!

What are we supposed to do with unaware or straight up absent pilots on frequency?

Last night when flying a route From Bogotá to Buenos Aires Aeroparque I noticed another Avianca plane flying in my same airway but in the opposite direction, and at the same altitude, we were both at 360, so I tracked him with VATSIM radar for a bit, maybe he would notice and change altitude

A few minutes pass and I decided to message him directly via Vpilot and I also verbally tried to establish communication, warning him of traffic at his 12 o'clock, flight level 360, company A320, you know, the regulars, but he never replied, eventually I had to descend to 350 to maintain separation

So what are we supposed to do with these people who just leave the plane flying itself all night? dont get me wrong everyone carries their own burdens, maybe he was tired or busy but I thought number one rule of VATSIM was being attentive to messages and directions, Vpilot gives you a loud and easy to notice warning when you get messaged by another pilot so its impossible he just didnt notice

(Obviously this happened at like, 4 in the morning so Argentina was uncontrolled airspace at the time, so pilots are expected to figure things out between them)

Default buildings obstructing scenery airports

Pretty self explanatory

For some reason it seems this building (Which I can only assume is meant to be part of asobo's modeling of the city) is trespassing on airport property without permission

Does anyone know what causes this? and if there's anyway to fix it?

Ps: I know its not supposed to be there, dont worry...I checked

My CPU is toasting itself despite re-pasting and having the fans on full blast?

Recently i've run into a bit of an annoying issue, for some reason my CPU just wont not overheat annoyingly

I've repasted it, cleaned out the generous dust inside the heatsink, have the CPU fan on full blast AND the llano V12 cooling pad on 1000 RPM or more almost constantly

I know these laptop heatsinks are comparatively weak for the components they're trying to cool but jeez, even after repasting and doing all this crap its still spiking to like 91 *Celsius* while gaming, which causes it to throttle...and also means that unless I stop playing like half my library, its only a matter of time before this i5-11400H cooks itself

and its also making me feel like the V12 has really saved my bacon cause holy crap, imagine if I didnt have it, for anyone wondering im using an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57, maybe this is a common issue on this model? but im just scared that this CPU is gonna cook itself before I have the chance to bring in funding to upgrade

the only way I can think of stopping the throttling and bringing the temps under control is undervolting, and even then im scared to do it cause I dont know what im doing and might end up bricking my only computer, cause hardware wise I've done all I can

What happens if you get a "non-standard" amount of ram for a gaming PC? (24gb)

Hey everyone!

So recently i've been having some slow down issues with my current PC, that has 16gb of DDR5 (its laptop ram so dont rob me) and I've been thinking I should get a bit more memory for my future new build that im planning and am still far from affording

the problem is that 16gb of ram is the bare minimum in 2026, and 32gb is outrageously expensive right now, I have heard of some people using non-standard amounts of ram like say 24gb, but i've also heard that mixing and matching ram types, modules and speeds is an easy way to have a bad time, but if i get say, 1 module of 16gb ram and another module of 8gb of the same speed, same manufacturer and same model, would it be bad?

I really want to get 32gb, but its too expensive and im already strapped for cash as is, but only having 16gb is seriously starting to hurt, so maybe 24gb is a nice in between that wont require maxing out my credit card?

What are the dangers of skimping out on a motherboard for a gaming PC?

Hey everyone! Self explanatory doubt for the most part

Im building a new budget PC soon (Cause its all I can realistically afford), it has a ryzen 7700x and an intel ARC B580 graphics card, as well as 16gb of DDR5 5600, I currently have the MSI B840M gaming wifi motherboard picked out, but I wonder if I can maybe get a slightly cheaper motherboard that can still support AM5?

I dont really mind sacrificing overclocking room or like 4 SSD slots since I hope I wont have to overclock my PC for many years to come and typically dont have many games or programs installed, and as a newbie builder, i've heard from some people that the motherboard is the most overspent part in new PCs, next to RGB, and the only game im really aiming for it to be capable of running smoothly at 1080p is Subnautica 2, aside from that, my current build can support all my other games to...varying degrees, but coming from a Spicy 11400H and GTX 1650, this should be a massive upgrade, even for a budget build

I've been really trying my hardest to research and ask around, which has really saved my bacon since it helped me discover the B580 which is like 300 dollars less than the 5060ti I was originally planning for, and for 1080p gaming, it should be totally fine but, I dont know, I did some quick research and found the Gigabyte B650 Eagle, which is slightly cheaper and still supports AM5 and Wifi since my apartment doesnt have ethernet distributors :(

but again, im only a newbie PC builder, if you check my post history you might be like "Oh my god this guy cant pick anything for himself" and you'd be kind of right, please be patient

Thanks in advance!

Which CPU should I pair with the ARC B580: Ryzen 7 7700X or 8700F or should I get an X3D CPU?

Hey everyone! pretty self explanatory

I heard that it was a good idea to have a fast CPU with the B580, like, no duh, but im conflicted, should I get the ryzen 7700X or 8700F? aside from integrated graphics (Which is kind of a moot point to be honest since nobody uses integrated graphics for gaming) according to google, the 7700X is faster, but apparently the X3D CPUS are even better for gaming

Im kind of a ryzen newbie, and also an ARC newbie at that, I've never strayed away from the ol' reliable Intel/Nvidia combo up until now, so the naming schemes are a bit confusing to me, not that I understand Intel's naming schemes anyway either

I just want a good CPU to run with the B580 for games like Microsoft flight sim, Subnautica 2, Fortnite, etc

Im already tight on budget so I need to get it right the first time since I cant change my decision right away, and seeing as the X3D version is a bit closer to an intel CPU in pricing, I...would prefer not needing to upgrade since I already had to go from a 5060ti to a B580 to spare some dollarydoos

Thanks in advance!

How bad would it be to use laptop to desktop ram adapters for budget gaming?

Lets not beat around the bush here, ram and GPU prices are absolutely insane, this morning I saw a video by the one and only greatest technician thats ever lived where he tested these like 20 dollar ram adapters for his content creation PC

Since recently I've been thinking about building my first desktop (Yeah I know great timing) and seeing how insane ram prices are, and that using this method could save me a crisp like 200 or 300 buckaroos, I actually have 2 8gb ram sticks from my laptop that could be used for a desktop with an adapter, in that video he came to the conclusion that it was stable and although the speeds were a tad but worse, it was usable for the moment in the short term and that you could even mix and match between laptop and desktop ram

But I want to know how bad it would be to use these adapters to game for maybe 2 or 3 months until I can procure more funds for actual desktop ram, basically im worried about the long term health and stability of the device, I dont know if he still uses the adapted sticks in his pc to this day or if it was a one off thing, but i'd be really sad to see a new gaming build getting sacked by laptop ram

What I want to play is nothing crazy, mostly games like subnautica, battlefield, minecraft, flight simulator 2020, etc, though my plan for this build was for it to be good enough for subnautica 2, even if im kind of worried it might burst into flames if I try to run it with only 16gb of ram, and laptop ram on top of that, what do you think?

*Note: im not at my pc right now so I dont have the partslist but ill post it as soon as I have it, along with the ram specs of the sticks im planning to use

Ram specs: 2933 Mhz speed, SODIMM factor 16gb via x2 8gb modules

PC parts list: Montech XR ATX Mid Tower case, Ryzen 7 7700x CPU, MSI B840 Gaming Plus Wifi AM5 motherboard, Asus dual OC Edition RTX 5060ti 16GB GDDR7, TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan 16gb via 2 x 8gb RAM (Planned), more parts can be provided on request, also Idk if the higher max ram speed the Ryzen 7 7700x can achieve matter but guess I might as well mention it

Is this a good airflow plan for my first PC build?

I have 6 Corsair RS120 120mm fans set up on intake and exhaust on the bottom and top respectively, the fan next to the CPU cooler on the left is proprietary to the Montach XR ATX Mid Tower case im using, I have it there to get rid of any potential hotspots between the CPU cooler and back panel (even though the panel has a grill so I dont know if its necessarily necessary), ideally the cold air comes through the bottom, cool the CPU and GPU, then rise due to the higher temperature to get caught by the fans on top and exhausted

Nvidia RTX 5060TI (16gb) VS Intel ARC A770: Which is better?

Hey everyone!

So, recently I made another post here about a week ago talking about how I wanted to build a PC with a 5060ti, buut that was until Intel's ARC A770 beat me over the head with a bat

Now before you burn me at the stake for even implying that Nvidia is inferior to intel in any way, shape or form, remember that prices are insane right now, and saving dollarydoos helps everyone right now, im also an entry level PC builder so, I dont need the fastest PC on the streets just something that will last and can play what I want, and do productivity stuff within a reasonable amount of time

I just want to know: can the 2 cards even compare for 1080p / 1440p gaming on modern titles like subnautica 2, forza 6, Battlefield, etc? Is it even worth thinking about the ARC A770 when Nvidia is a more established manufacturer? And is saving a couple hundred bucks viable?

Now im asking this question just based on the premise of gaming, no video editing or streaming or whatever, Im just genuinely curious if intel is a genuinely underrated choice when it comes to budget, obviously in terms of accesibility and drivers and support its probably gonna blow intel out of the water, but even if the answer is a staunch NO, I think its still worth exploring this possibility

Also the ARC A770 just looks slick af, you could tell me it came out this year and just from aesthetics, i'd believe you

*Note: in case it depends on other components too much I can provide a list on request

*Edit: Replace the A770 with the B850M cuz im dumb and didnt realize there was a B series of cards, so just pretend everything I asked refers to the B850M

Can you upload/make model-matching liveries for custom aircraft paintjobs?

Hey pilots!

Recently I commissioned a custom Avianca livery from an artist, and I got it, but im not sure if its showing up on VATSIM since It probably doesnt have a model match and so just shows up as the white generic model

I was wondering if anyone here was able to make and upload their own model matching liveries for VATSIM and would be willing to upload a guide/tutorial on how to do it since, well i'd like people to see the livery

Thanks in advance!

PSA: If it helps im using the Headwind Simulations Airbus A339X

Can anyone recommend a Case/AIO for my build?

Hey everyone!

So recently i've been thinking of getting a new, more powerful computer than the potato im rocking right now with the hopes of having it in time to play Subnautica 2's full release, but i've run into a bug of sorts

Here's my list of components so far:

Intel Core i5-14600K

NVIDIA RTX 5060ti*

32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5*

Asrock PRO 750G*

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE*

MSI B760 Gaming Plus*

Montech XR ATX Mid Tower Case*

Edit: Asterisks (*) Signal components that were either changed or added as the post evolved so you can be up to date :D

But I still havent decided on a case, fans or an AIO, so I wanted to hopefully get some peer recommendations, the colour of the case/RGB doesnt really matter, but blue is preferred, I also havent really decided on a motherboard but im thinking of the MSI Pro B760-VC HS Wifi since, well I dont have ethernet and I'd like to upgrade to 32gb of RAM in the future

Budget isnt really a concern, but balance between quality and price is appreciated

Thanks for the help! and also PS: feel free to give me tips/recommendations on components like the PSU since im a novice PC builder still, feedback is appreciated!

How can I overclock my GPU? And can I overclock with MSI afterburner even if I dont have an MSI device?

Hey guys!

Im kind of new to overclocking and so im kind of scared to do it, i've been trying to squeeze every inch of performance from my Acer Nitro 5's GTX 1650 to play Subnautica 2 since finances are kind of rough and I cant just get a new PC straight away unfortunately, and I heard overclocking was safe and basically free performance but I havent been able to find many tutorials or information on overclocking without bios settings so I was wondering if anyone here could steer me in the right direction with a quick tutorial on overclocking with software like MSI afterburner since I heard its really good

I have the Llano V12 laptop cooler, and dont plan to change the CPU voltage, so...I hope heat shouldnt be an issue

Thanks for the help in advance!

Hey gamers

So, recently I've been thinking of retiring my ACER nitro 5 Ive had for like 5 years in favour of an actual desktop rather than a laptop, but I dont know any good PC sellers, I know to stay well away from places like best buy or ebay, and I do know about sites like metapcs, but I've never contracted with them

So long as they sell medium range desktops that can play games and such, I dont really have any strict requirements for specs or parts

Can anybody help me with this?

thanks in advance!

Note: I know that I could in fact build my own PC, but I just dont have enough time or skill to do it, so even if yes I wish I could be one of you building PCs, I would probably do it wrong the first time, and with the costs right now I cant afford to bend or break anything important
