Steam wishlists – is there potential?

Steam wishlists – is there potential?

Hey! In about two weeks I managed to get around 400 wishlists.

I spent a small amount of money promoting a Facebook Reel for a few days and... I think it's working.

I'm taking a short break now to improve the graphics, replace some animations, and put together a better trailer.

To be honest, I didn't expect results like this, and I already know there are a lot of things I could have done better.
I'm not sure if I've managed to find the right niche—this is my first game on Steam, after all. I honestly have no idea how to interpret these numbers.

Why does outdoor lighting in Unreal Engine look so much worse than interiors? How do you improve visual quality without killing FPS?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed that in Unreal Engine it's relatively easy to make an indoor environment look great. With good lighting, shadows, and post-processing, even a simple room can look very high quality.

However, once I move to a large outdoor environment, the overall visual quality drops noticeably. Everything feels flatter and less impressive compared to interiors.

I've experimented with adding many local lights (windows, street lamps, signs, etc.), and the result looks much better, especially at night. The problem is that performance drops dramatically because of the large number of dynamic light sources.

So I'm wondering:

  • What techniques do you use to make open-world environments look more visually appealing?
  • Are there better alternatives to placing lots of local lights?
  • Is the answer mostly in materials, fog, color grading, decals, or something else?
  • How do games achieve rich-looking night scenes without hundreds of expensive dynamic lights?
  • Any Lumen tips would also be appreciated.

I'm mainly looking for optimization-friendly techniques that significantly improve the visual quality of outdoor maps.

Thanks!

Looking for honest feedback on my Steam trailer

I recently finished updating the Steam page for The Repeating Knot, and I'm now trying to improve how effectively it converts visitors into wishlists.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on the trailer.

What are your first impressions? Does it communicate the game clearly? Is there anything that feels confusing, too slow, or uninteresting? If you discovered this game through Steam, would the trailer make you want to learn more or wishlist it?

Considering diminishing returns on further editing and polishing, do you think the trailer is already doing its job, or are there any major issues that should be addressed?

The Steam page itself is largely finished, so for this post I'm mainly looking for feedback on the trailer only.

Thanks for taking a look.

I'm making a survival horror set in post-communist Poland, inspired by Silent Hill and PS2 classics

Hey everyone!

I've been working on an indie survival horror called The Repeating Knot.

The game is heavily inspired by classic survival horror titles like Silent Hill, combined with gameplay mechanics and design philosophies from the PS1 and PS2 era. I'm trying to capture that feeling of exploration, tension, limited resources, and psychological horror that made those games so memorable.

What makes the project a bit different is its setting: the story takes place in Wodzisław Śląski, Poland, surrounded by a post-communist atmosphere, aging apartment blocks, industrial landscapes, and locations inspired by real places from the region.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the visuals, atmosphere, and overall direction of the project.
