Even RTings.com doesn't seem to help. Hisense UR8S vs TCL QM8/9K?

I am completely bewildered by choice right now. Finishing up building my basement dedicated home theater room (fully light controlled), and trying to decide between the Hisense UR8S and the TCL QM8K (which was rated more highly than the QM8L for some reason).

All I read about are horror stories regarding Hisense, but when I viewed them in person the Hisense had much better sharpness and the colors were spectacular, plus very little white bloom.

Is Hisense's reputation worth saving $2k and downgrading to the QM8K (current price of $2,999 at Best Buy) vs going with the UR8S at $4,999? Is it safer to go Mini-LED than gambling on the new RGB micro-LED tech?

Would you buy a Best Buy display LG G5 with 4400 hours on it for half off?

In the market to buy a ~100in tv for my theater. My MLP is going to be 11ft from the screen, but I'm planning on having bean bag chairs on the floor for kids at ~7ft viewing distance, so I don't want to go bigger than that. My budget is a FIRM cutoff at $10,000, but obviously less than that is better. My local Best Buy has a G5 listed as "open box - good" and I looked at it in person today, and I could **veeeerrrry slightly** see a light square of what appeared to be burn-in when I pulled up a screen test on YouTube, but no dead pixels. The rep said they've had it on display for a year, but kept telling me the LG panel warranty still applies for 4 more years.

Total price for that is $7,800. I know it's a great deal, but over 4,000 hours seems like a lot for an OLED. Is it worth buying? Or should I just wait for the new LG or Sony MicroRGB tvs to arrive and put my money there instead? Maybe there will be a sale during Labor Day, lol?

Denon recommendation is wrong?

https://preview.redd.it/2h58wigthu8h1.png?width=973&format=png&auto=webp&s=7a9cf60012572a0bf5b3ecb0af0c1b7a6644955b

I have two Monolith M12s I'm putting in my new 18ft (front wall) x 17ft dedicated theater room. Everybody on here says putting subs in opposite corners is best, but Denon's own setup guide shows both on the front wall. Is Denon just wrong? I've also heard people say ideal is with both speaker cabinets in one corner, touching each other.

I am trying to wire the room, so I need to figure out where the subs go BEFORE I drywall, which means I won't be able to do a sub crawl. And I'm not going to put coax runs to every corner of the room, so I want this figured out first.

Should I get a second subwoofer if I already have transducers?

I currently have a Monolith M12 v1 in my dedicated 17.5ft x 17ft theater room and a pair of Q10Bs mounted to the riser platform my u-shaped couch is on. I will say that adding the transducers made a huge difference, since to me the best part about bass is feeling it. But I keep reading that dual subs are so much better than one that I’m wondering if it’s still worth getting a second subwoofer (now it would be a Monolith M12 v2) to fill nulls or whatever, even though I have some kick ass (pun intended) transducers…? I’m running a Denon x6800h so I can accommodate the extra sub no problem.

How to get over the FOMO from all the other investing subreddits?

Ever since I started taking my investments seriously, I'm suddenly inundated with posts from smallstreetbets, coastFIRE, and tons of other investment advice subreddits. The issue is I only have about $425k in investments, and although I'm doing a LOOOT better than basically any of my friends or peers, with ~25 years until retirement at 62.5 (and with a new baby so we're supplementing my wife's previous income from our portfolio for the next few years so she can stay home with the baby until baby is old enough to go to preschool/kindergarten to the tune of ~$2k per month), I'm feeling like it's not enough and I'm missing the rocket. I make about $75k per year, so I'm not a huge earner, and although I have a decent spread of assets, max out our HSA every year, and put 6% into a ROTH 401k through my employer (3% me and 3% match), I'm seeing all the "I threw $50k into DRAM yesterday and now I have $100k" and "I put $100k into Sandisk a year ago and now I'm a millionaire" posts and scared I'm missing my shot at a truly awesome retirement by doing the standard three-fund portfolio instead of hopping on these enormous bull market stocks.

How do you guys quell the FOMO in your own minds? Do you just mute all other subreddits except this one and allow yourselves to fall into the Boglehead echo chamber?

Does anybody here actually LIKE the look of speakers?

I see all these posts about acoustically transparent screens and building speakers into the wall and whatever, but all I think to myself is “… but then I couldn’t see the speakers…?” I love the way speakers look without grilles on. WAF says grilles on is better, but that was in my apartment when my 5.1 setup was in the living room, lol. Now that I’m building a dedicated theater room in the basement, I don’t want to lose additional square footage by building essentially a large vertical bulkhead, and WAF doesn’t matter anyway. It’s similar to looking at a souped-up car’s engine — it’s beautiful.

I guess the question is: how many of you would hide speakers in a dedicated theater room, vs how many would display their speakers proudly?

This morning I farted in bed when my wife put our newborn on my stomach.

She said to our baby in a jovial tone, “Well that was clearly Dadda.”

I replied, “No, no. It was definitely Momma. Dadda would never do such a thing.”

I have officially mastered gas-lighting.

Follow up to my previous issues, now with floor plan! Relocation ideas?

I really appreciate the previous advice, but I’m still having issues and the fixes aren’t helping. Is my issue the actual layout? Blue is where I have CAT6 runs, red is where the access points currently are (about 8ft up the walls). I cannot currently run any lines to the attic, therefore I cannot have ceiling mounted APs. The kitchen port (north living room) is currently occupied by a wall screen which displays the front door camera.

How to get a networking pro to come to my house and assist me in figuring out why my access points aren't working right?

I have two EAP 772s in my house, on opposite corners of the house, both on exterior walls (on-ceiling wasn't an option due to wiring constraints), and pointing inwards. Our house is about 2,200 sqft. I also have an SG2428P in the basement which gets signal routed through a Firewalla Gold directly from our 1 gig fiber ONT. You would think this setup would give very consistent wifi throughout the house, but for some reason my iPhone 17 Pro Max REFUSES to switch between the two access points. When I first come home, it will connect to the AP near the front door, and when I go to bed, it remains connected to that, despite the bedroom access point being 10ft away on the upper part of the vaulted/cathedral wall.

Last night, I setup an Omada controller on my unRAID server and got both APs and the switch imported, configured, and working, but even though I turned the 2.4ghz signal to low using channel 1 and channel 11 only, turned the 5ghz to medium and not using the DFS channels, and disabled the 6ghz signal, all that happened was my phone showed full WiFi bars in my bed yet completely unable to access the internet because it was still connected to the AP in the opposite corner of the house.

I am at my wit's end and need some help, but don't know where to turn. There don't seem to be any Google Maps results in Columbus, OH for a "network professional" or "home IT consultation", so how would I go about this? Do any of you live in Cbus and wanna help a fellow Redditor out for some beer/wings?

Best subwoofer to pair with Monolith M12 v1 for deeper extension?

Hey guys, I currently have a Monolith M12 (first gen if that matters) and I’m wanting to get a second sub not only to eliminate voids but also to get a bit more extension on the low end, like in the 5-10hz range for those few movies which have some. I don’t want to have to buy a Umik or a MiniDSP because that’s like an extra $400. I have an x6800h and I have the Audyssey app, so what would be a best second sub for me? Do I stick with another M12 so it perfectly matches? Or do I get an M15/M16 and they should match well enough since they’re the same brand?

Currently on 7.1.4... Should I update to 7.2.6 or wait for 7.3?

7.1.4 has been flawless for me and incredibly stable, but I'm quite a bit behind now. I know boot from drive is coming on 7.3 and I was originally going to wait for that, but I know some vulnerabilities have been fixed recently...

Get the Air now or regular 17 and wait for the Air 2?

Going to sign up for Verizon service tomorrow, and the deal that’s being offered to me is a 36 month, 0% interest iPhone 17 for $0.27 per month or an Air for $10.27 per month (after monthly “bill credits”). I actually love the idea of the Air, since I tend to value simplicity and don’t love how much time I already spend on my phone, but when I am on my phone it’s always either for browsing Reddit, watching videos, taking notes, or random life productivity stuff. I’m trading in my 12 Pro which I got a replacement of when the battery started failing a year ago, so I really don’t think the Air’s battery life will bother me at all, lol. However, I do SELDOMLY take photos of nature or something, and could see myself enjoying the 8x zoom on the Pro models. I know we know nothing about the Air 2 yet, but it’s very likely they’ll use silicon carbon batteries and put a second camera in there, along with vapor chamber cooling, which would negate all the complaints with this gen.

All that being said, do you guys think the Air is worth using for the next 12 months over the regular 17 if I am almost positive I will be upgrading before my 36 month term is up? I’d have to do a buyout on whatever phone I get and then trade it in, so please keep in mind that the resale value on the current iPhone Airs is apparently atrocious…

Hey everyone, looking for some input from an actual Verizon employee here. I'm about to pull the trigger on signing up for the Verizon "Flash Sale" thing they have going on. I'm very happy with the deal I'm being offered right now, but seeing as how Memorial Day is just around the corner and the current promos run out on the 13th, I'm just curious if you happen to know what programs are going into effect on the 14th? Are they better or worse than the current ones?

I worked in car sales for quite a few years and we usually knew what incentives were coming about a week or so prior to them being released, so I have to imagine you guys do as well, correct?

So I'm in the midst of phone shopping, and I've finally narrowed it down to two options: the iPhone Air vs the Pixel 10 Pro XL. However, I've been an iPhone guy since the original iPhone, and although I use a Windows PC and have a Linux based (unRAID) home Jellyfin server, I can't seem to shake the fact that iOS is really smooth and easy. That being said, there are obviously things about Android that intrigue me from a customization standpoint, so I am feeling like I should maybe give it a try. I should mention that I've tried Samsung products in the past, but I hate their unreliable tvs and horrifically curved monitors (plus the fact that they stubbornly won't allow Dolby Vision), I hate their crappy appliances, and I hate that the Galaxy doesn't seem to have swiping gestures that are intuitive for me as a long time iOS user, so I will not be considering a Samsung phone at all. The Pixel seems to have a much more seamless UI for me, so that's why it's my pick. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is the final contender, but it's $360 more ($10 per month) and I don't really take photos. I'm coming from an iPhone 12 Pro which still works great by the way.

Here are my qualms with moving to Android:

  1. My Notes app. I have probably 100 different notes in my Notes app that I've cultivated throughout the years, and I don't want to lose them.
  2. Messages. iMessage is just phenomenal. Recently a friend of mine got an Android and even though they now support RCS, I've noticed I can't "reply" to any of their messages, nor edit and unsend messages. There are still some things that seem less user friendly on the texting front, even with RCS. Plus, my message history won't transfer over, nor will most of the apps/data, correct?
  3. I have an AppleTV 4K that I use for my home theater, and I don't know how I'd manage my Apple account otherwise. I also have a Ugoos AM6B+, but that's irrelevant here.
  4. My Christmas gift was the Airpod Pro 3s. I'd be lying if I didn't say the main reason I went with the Airpods over the Techniks AZ100s was because I had an iPhone. My worry is the Pixel won't function well with the Airpods, although push come to shove I could sell the Airpods and buy the Techniks.
  5. My family all use iPhones, and we have an AirTag on my wife's keys/wallet which we use frequently.
  6. I've heard the battery life on the Pixel 10 Pro XL is poor, which is strange considering how much bigger the battery is than the Air...
  7. Camera is a non-issue for me. I take photos of life stuff, but never post anything online and rarely ever take pictures of myself or my family anyway. We're "in the moment" kinda people.

Any advice you can give? They're the same price for me.
