I've never used the inner display of folding phones as much as I have with the Fold 8

I've been a fan of the Samsung Z Fold line since I got my hands on the Fold 3 almost 5 years ago. Each year I always upgrade to the newest Z Fold in order to see the innovations to the design and the new features.

Last year's Z fold 7 was probably the biggest change I had felt with an upgrade in years. I loved the slim feel in hand, the cameras were good, and the much smaller crease on the inner display was amazing. Plus that blue color... God I miss it already lol

However, when I saw Samsung was making the Fold 8 a passport size foldable I was immediately skeptical, but intrigued. I've never loved the candy bar format of the previous folds, but by this time I've gotten used to them and to me the form factor just made sense.

But now I've been using the Fold 8 for the past week I have not been able to put this thing down! There is just something about the form factor that I cannot get over. It just feels... Right. Especially when I open to the inner screen and rotate it to portrait view. For the first time a folding phone truly feels like a TABLET in my hands and not just a two phones glued together with the older square format.

Don't get me wrong, I do miss the better cameras and multitasking in landscape with the Fold 7, but to me everything else has been an upgrade going to the Fold 8.

The form factor, watching videos, texting, battery life, scrolling social media, the brightness, lack of a visible crease, and the hinge... Man the hinge is so damn good on the Fold 8. I LOVE how it snaps open and STAYS flat. I always hated how with the older folds I always felt like I needed to press and hold the display flat whenever I was scrolling social media in bed. Not any more! Yeah, flex mode is gone but honestly I haven't missed it yet and never really used it in the past to begin with.

I just didn't think that changing up the aspect ratio/form factor of a folding phone would have this large of an impact with my overall enjoyment of the phone.... But it definitely has! Samsung truly knocked it out of the park with the Fold 8 and I cannot wait to see what they bring to the table in the future with this form factor!

My SM7B Microphone has this weird... almost resonance sound to it? This started just over 2 months ago now and I cannot find a fix for it. Any ideas as to what could be causing my mic to sound like this?

I explain most of the background and the issue in the video posted above, but I will add a bit more info/context here.

Issue started 2 months ago. I have gone back and forth for weeks now trying to figure out if I purchased/installed something 2 months ago that could have started this issue, but I have yet to figure it out.

I've attempted to swap out my Audio Converter (Currently using a WAVE XLR PRO, but I did try switching to a Focusrite 2i2 and even a Rodecaster Pro 2... no change to the sound so I went back to my WAVE XLR PRO), Swapped XLR cables, my PC's motherboard, power adapters, and I even purchased a brand new SM7B and that has not fixed the issue.

Yes, I have tried using other USB-C ports on my PC's motherboard for the audio converter, doesn't change the sound.

I even gave those ground loop isolator products a shot and they did not fix the issue. These are the two I tried:

1.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D969C3DN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
2.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XWJNS9T?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

As stated in the video this weird resonance sound can be heard both in direct monitoring straight to my headset as well as in recordings so I do not believe this to be a software issue.

I do not use a cloudlifter in between my SM7B and the audio converter since the WAVE XLR PRO does not need the extra gain. Phantom Power is of course DISABLED.

I run my SM7B at 47-50db of gain without ANY software gain added via compression and/or post processing.

My head is always 6-8 inches away from the mic capsule and I have the included wind guard installed on the SM7B.

Lastly I of course have verified that both WITH and WITHOUT any type of processing to the microphone this sound is heard. No matter how much compression I add, it stull cuts through and sounds terrible.

Operating System: Windows 11 Home. Fully up to date.

PC Specs: Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF, ToughRam 32GB DDR5 6400MT/s Memory, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, 1TB NVMe M.2

I literally don't know what else to do or test.... so please, any audio professionals out there.... let me know what I can do to fix this.

Major pro tip for BETTER performance with your new Galaxy Fold 8

For whatever reason Samsung has decided to enable RAM Plus by default on every new Galaxy Fold 8. I have no idea why they have done this because it tends to lead to many instances of stutter and lag throughout everyday use (at least in my experience).

So I recommend disabling this feature in order to get the full performance you paid for.

How to disable RAM Plus:

Go to settings, Device Care, memory, scroll down to RAM Plus. Click on it and at the top turn it off.

You're welcome!

Why does nobody seem to complain about the god awful Direct Monitoring found within the Rodecaster Pro 2 and Rodecaster Duo?

As the title states, I am just surprised at the lack of people in this subreddit and on the internet in general (Youtube videos, forums, reviews, etc.) who complain about the Direct Monitoring with the Rodecaster Pro 2 and Rodecaster Duo.

I'm a full-time content creator and recently switched out ALL of my Elgato products in order to get the Rodecaster Duo for all my audio routing and dual PC setup with my streams. I absolutely LOVED this little thing and all that it was capable of. My mic sounded amazing and it was simple enough to get up and running within one afternoon.

But then I noticed something quite odd. When listening to myself through direct monitoring my mic sounded almost doubled or as if my voice had a Phaser effect applied to it. I spent literally 4 hours troubleshooting this problem because I cannot survive a stream without direct monitoring my own voice.

After 4 hours of tinkering with settings and verifying I wasn't setting my routing channels up incorrectly, I took to the internet to figure out what this issue was. But almost NOBODY has ever had this exact problem apparently? I found maybe 1 post with someone having the same problem but next to nobody had responded to them in months... so no fix for them or me.

I ended up contacting Rode about it via email and after some light troubleshooting they "confirmed" that it was a hardware defect and I needed to send the unit back. Fast forward a few days and another Rodecaster Duo appears at my door as a replacement and it sounds the exact same.

Out of pure frustration I decided to return it and instead upgrade to the Rodecaster 2 because I figured that since it's the more "premium option" there is no way it would have this same issue... right?

WRONG. The rodecaster Pro 2 sounds exactly the same as the Duo in terms of this "doubling effect" in my ears when speaking. That's when I came across another old reddit post where someone pointed out how both the Rodecaster Pro 2 and the Duo do not have zero-latency monitoring.... So this doubling sound I hear is actually just a delay between your mic and what comes through your headphones.... Insane....

How can a $700 device that is marketed towards streamers, gamers, content creators, and podcasters NOT HAVE ZERO LATENCY MONITORING IN 2026?

I pray to god that someone at Rode sees this post and they can assure me that a firmware update can fix this with time... because other than this one major flaw I LOVE this thing and it's made my setup absolutely streamlined.

But man.... what a bummer.

*EDIT*

Added screenshots of my routing setup because people were asking for it.

Also, yes I have tried listening to the mic with AND without ANY processing on the device. Delay is still there regardless.

Galaxy Fold 8 arrived today! Absolutely love it!

I traded in my Z Fold 7 for the Fold 8 and after 8 hours of use I can easily say it was a great decision! The outside display is much smaller than the Z Fold 7 but the aspect ratio is so much more comfortable for texting and watching YouTube on. Plus it actually gives me more of a reason to use the inner display which is the perfect size for a tablet when scrolling media in portrait mode. I also like the light weight and the battery life so far is SO much better.

If I had any issues I would say the inner camera gets in the way a bit more than I would like, and the removal of the telephoto camera is a big L.

All in all happy with my upgrade!

I am at my wits end with trying to figure out why my SM7B sounds so terrible when paired with my Wave XLR PRO.

As the title states, I have been trying now for over a week straight to get my SM7B sounding decent enough to live stream with when using my new Wave XLR Pro audio interface. For some reason no matter how many settings I tweak, how many hardware components I swap out (mics, XLR cables, USB C cables, Using a cloud lifter, removing the cloud lifter, etc) the audio always sounds.... harsh?

It might just be my ears, but no matter what headset I listen to my voice with, it comes out harsh and ear-piercing with certain words I say. And this has nothing to do with my gain levels. I've tried recording at super low gain (with boost in post) and I have tried with higher gain. Same issue. I have tried with and without clip guard enabled. I have tried with and without ALL hardware effects running. I have tried using different Software VSTs such as EQ, Compression, D-Essers, Limiters, Noise Gates, etc. NOTHING WORKS to fix this problem.

I have had my SM7B for over 6 years and never had this issue with my voice recordings. It all started once I started using the Wave XLR PRO. I love the damn thing, but this audio is just unusable.

I made a recent post talking about this same issue found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/elgato/s/p3EvLz2T7M

But my issues are still remaining 10 days later.

Has anyone else noticed that if you add any hardware effects from Elgato onto your mic with Wave link, it makes the quality significantly worse?

I've recently been using the new Wave XLR Pro and I love it. It's fully streamlined my streaming setup since I use two PCs.

But one major issue I have been having is that whenever I add any of the built in elgato effects on my mic, the quality is downright unusable.

As an example, if I add any of Elgato's effects such as EQ, Compression, Expander, Low cut filter, etc. All my recordings make my SM7B just sound significantly worse compared to when I have those effects disabled. Most people probably wouldn't notice this, but I use studio monitor headphones and when listening back on my streams and recordings, they all have some sort of high pitched ear-piercing audio throughout the recordings when I'm speaking.

Now I've already verified it's not my mic or my headset (I've swapped both in order to test this and even with a different mic/headset the sound quality is still poor whenever any of the elgato mic effects are enabled.

After messing with it for a few days now I've come to the conclusion that the only way to get decent recording quality using the XLR Pro is by using software VSTs.

This honestly is just fine for me since I don't need to hear the effects in my ears anyway, but it's a bummer that I'm not able to use one of the major features of the device due to this. It's also a shame that all the processing power for my audio is now going through my stream PC and not on the XLR pro itself.

Again, it's not the end of the world, but it's just a shame to see that all the built in effects made by elgato seem to significantly effect the overall quality of any microphone you use with it.

Hopefully this can be fixed with future Wave Link updates or maybe a firmware update for the XLR Pro itself.

The Wave XLR Pro is the best product that Elgato has made since the stream deck

This is not a paid promotion. The second I saw what the Wave XLR Pro was capable of for my stream setup, I instantly through it in my cart.

I've been streaming with a dual PC setup for well over a year now and I won't lie, it's been nothing short of a headache at times. Thankfully Elgato and Wave Link's software have helped make that process easier over that time, but I was always wishing I could use my XLR (SM7B) with my gaming PC alongside my stream PC.

Thanks to the Wave XLR Pro that is now possible! Not only am I able to use my mic through both PCs with zero latency monitoring, but the VST effects also transfer through to the gaming PC as well! It's insane how seamless it is.

I also love how compact and sleek this thing is. It's fully replaced my old bulky Scarlet 4i4 audio interface that did everything I needed to, but it took up too much desk space and obviously doesn't have the software features the Wave XLR Pro does.

My only real issue with the device is the lack of knobs/physical buttons. Obviously it works wonders with just the software alone and most people who buy this product probably already own a stream deck or a stream deck + (like I do!) so that can basically replace any lack of physical buttons.

And if you're wondering how the XLR ports sound with the SM7B? They are whisper quiet with the sound floor, give enough DB of gain to no longer need a cloudlifter, and the setup was easier than the scarlet which gave me a sigh of relief.

It also drives my DT 1990 pro studio headphones without an issue. So if you were worried about high impedance headphones not having enough volume, you can rest assured this thing will power them just fine.

I also should throw in my thoughts on the new ducking feature. It works WONDERFULLY for streamers if you're like me and have game audio, music, and maybe alerts that your audience can trigger at any point. Having a system what automatically lowers all audio to enhance the clarity of your voice has been so sick that I never knew this was a feature I needed...but now I could never go without it!

In the end, this has fully replaced my old audio interface and I don't think I could ever go without all the useful tools that it brings to the table. $350 is not a cheap pricetag, but when you compare it to other audio interfaces on the market, literally nothing can replicate the Wave XLR Pro in terms of its software feature set. The fact you can connect it to two PCs at the same time and use it on both simultaneously is worth the price alone.

If you have any further questions comment below and I'll try my hardest to get back to you ASAP!
